Dog play area is great. Plenty of room for dogs to play. Picnic tables and benches are also shaded. Water and trash bags readily available for the pups. My dog and enjoy coming here other than the SEVERAL remnant piles of dog waste left in the playing area even with trash bags and disposal on site.

The Smithfield Dog Park stands out as a beloved local amenity, providing a much-needed outlet for dogs to run, play, and socialize in a safe, off-leash environment. It's a place where furry friends can burn off energy, make new pals, and enjoy the great outdoors, while their human companions can relax and connect with fellow dog enthusiasts.
The Smithfield Dog Park is consistently praised by its users for being a "perfect little dog park" and a "very nice place" to have in Smithfield. Visitors appreciate the ample room for dogs to play, highlighting the thoughtful inclusion of shaded picnic tables and benches, which offers comfort for owners during their visit. The ready availability of water and trash bags is also a frequently mentioned positive, demonstrating the park's commitment to convenience and cleanliness. While one review did note occasional issues with uncollected dog waste, the overall sentiment points to a well-kept and mowed facility, with users expressing their enjoyment and return visits. The park also gains recognition for its special events, further solidifying its role as a community hub for dog lovers.
The Smithfield Dog Park is conveniently located at 1214 S Brightleaf Blvd, Smithfield, NC 27577, USA. This address places it adjacent to the Smithfield Civitan Field, making it easily identifiable and accessible. Its proximity to I-95, specifically Exit 93, makes it a convenient stop for travelers passing through or for residents coming from various parts of Smithfield and the wider Johnston County area.
The park boasts generous operating hours, being open from 7:00 AM to dusk seven days a week. This extensive schedule provides ample opportunity for dog owners to visit at their convenience, whether for an early morning romp before work or an evening play session as the sun sets. Ample parking is available on-site, ensuring a hassle-free experience from arrival to departure. It's always a good idea to be aware of local park regulations and to keep dogs leashed until within the designated off-leash areas for the safety of all park users.
Smithfield Dog Park is well-equipped to provide a positive and functional experience for both dogs and their owners. Based on user reviews and common dog park standards, you can expect the following services and amenities:
- Separate Fenced-In Areas: The park features distinct, securely fenced sections for both large dogs and small dogs. This crucial separation helps ensure that dogs of all sizes and temperaments can play safely and comfortably without feeling overwhelmed.
- Off-Leash Play Zones: Within these designated, secure enclosures, dogs are free to run, chase, and interact off-leash, allowing for essential physical exercise and natural social behavior.
- Water Access for Pups: Fresh water is readily available for dogs to quench their thirst after energetic play. This typically includes water spigots or fountains specifically designed for canine use.
- Pet Waste Bag Dispensers: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, the park provides convenient stations with complimentary waste bags, making it easy for owners to pick up after their dogs.
- Trash Receptacles: Ample trash cans are strategically placed throughout the park for proper disposal of pet waste and other refuse, contributing to a clean environment.
- Shaded Picnic Tables & Benches: For the comfort of human companions, the park offers shaded seating areas, including picnic tables and benches, allowing owners to relax and supervise their pets, even on sunny days.

Smithfield Dog Park stands out as a highly appreciated local resource due to several key features and highlights:
- Ample Room for Play: The park offers generous space for dogs to run freely, chase balls, and engage in energetic play, preventing overcrowding and ensuring every dog can enjoy their time.

- Community Engagement through Events: The park is known for hosting special events, fostering a vibrant community among local dog owners and providing unique opportunities for fun and socialization beyond regular visits.
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: Despite occasional individual oversight regarding waste, the park generally receives high marks for being "clean and mowed," which contributes significantly to a pleasant and safe environment.
- Convenient Location: Its easy access off I-95 and central position within Smithfield make it a go-to spot for both local residents and those passing through.
- Safe Play Environment: The separate, fenced areas for large and small dogs are a critical feature, promoting safer interactions and reducing potential stress for all canine visitors.
While the Smithfield Dog Park itself generally operates as a free public amenity, the Town of Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department occasionally organizes special events at the park, which can be considered valuable promotions or unique offers for local dog owners. These events foster community spirit and provide additional reasons to visit.
For instance, one reviewer specifically mentioned loving "when they have special events there too," indicating a history of such activities. These could include seasonal gatherings, dog-themed festivals, adoption events, or even training demonstrations. While specific upcoming events cannot be listed without current public data, it's highly recommended for local residents to:
- Check the Town of Smithfield's Official Website: The Parks and Recreation section of Smithfield's municipal website is the best source for announcements regarding upcoming dog park events, maintenance closures, or any new initiatives.
- Follow Local Social Media Channels: Many local government departments or community groups maintain social media pages where they post timely updates about park activities and events.
As there are no membership fees or daily charges to use the Smithfield Dog Park, the greatest "promotion" is its continued availability as a free, well-maintained resource for the community's canine population. Any special events serve to further enhance this already valuable offering.
For inquiries about Smithfield Dog Park, including its rules, maintenance, or information on upcoming events, you can generally reach out to the Town of Smithfield's Parks and Recreation Department.

Dec 03, 2024 · Clint WThis is a perfect little dog park, and so nice to have in Smithfield. They keep it clean and mowed. I love when they have special events there too. Very nice place!
May 14, 2025 · P GrishAwesome dog park. Big, clean, well maintained park with separate areas for big and small dogs. There are a couple of shaded benches in each area for the humans and fresh water and toys for the dogs. There's even nice clean portapotties across the street. We were traveling through on the interstate with 2 bored dogs so this was a lovely treat. Thank you Smithfield!
Jun 13, 2023 · Sylvia YoweVery impressive doggie playground! Separate large & small dog parks, well groomed landscaping, lots of toys to choose from, shaded sitting areas and fresh water stations on each side.
May 17, 2022 · DogLife11-30-24 Simple dog park with sections for small (below 25 pounds) and large (25+ pounds) dogs. Sections are adjoining with a gate between both but also with a separate entrance to each. Seems secure in that dogs aren't crossing over between the two sections with brute force. Has water available and doggie bags/trash cans in both sections. We found the small dog section mostly clean, but some turds were there. We also didn't particularly like the parking situation as it is just on a curb on 2nd Street. Not a whole lot, either. Shade only amounted to a couple of benches (not really shaded essentially), so don't expect much, if any, at all. Would be difficult for pups and people on super hot days. No bathrooms for humans. There were no dogs there during our afternoon time on the date above. It's an option for your pup but not the best park I've been to per the aforementioned aspects.
