Nice beach to take the dogs to on the calm side of fort to Soto lots of room for the dogs to run. They do have signs that say no dogs along or past this point, but the space is pretty good. Nice sand nice small ways for the dogs to run and play and jump in the water and have a great day with their family. Nice walk to get the dogs exercise. Just be careful with people and certain dogs that are not trained. We had one bad incense. So that's why I give four stars five stars if I didn't get bit.

From sandy shores to dedicated play zones, Fort De Soto offers an unparalleled experience for dogs and their human companions, making it a must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike.
Unlike many other locations, Fort De Soto provides a unique combination of a traditional dog park and a truly off-leash dog beach. This means your pup can enjoy the freedom of running in a fenced area, or take a joyful dip in the bay, experiencing the natural beauty of the Florida coastline right alongside you. The park is renowned for its expansive, clean environment, ensuring a safe and enjoyable outing for all. Many visitors rave about the clear water, the abundant space for dogs to play, and the generally friendly atmosphere among fellow dog owners. It’s a place where memories are made, whether it’s your giant dog making new friends or your smaller companion enjoying gentle waves. While most experiences are positive, as with any public space, responsible pet ownership is key to ensuring everyone has a great time.
Fort De Soto Dog Park / Beach is conveniently located at St. Petersburg, FL 33715, USA. Situated within the larger Fort De Soto Park, which spans over 1,100 acres across five interconnected islands (keys), it's easily accessible for residents across Pinellas County and beyond. The dog park and beach are specifically situated at the far southwest corner of the overall park, ensuring a dedicated and expansive area for canine activities.
Getting there is straightforward, with clear signage guiding you to the dog-friendly sections. The park maintains ample parking, making it easy to find a spot, even on busier days, though weekdays are often noted as being "super easy to find parking." There is a parking fee to enter Fort De Soto Park, which is currently $6 per vehicle for a daily pass. This fee helps maintain the park's pristine conditions and wide array of amenities. Payment options are flexible, including mobile parking apps, pay-by-text, existing parking terminals, or an annual pass for frequent visitors. The park is open from 7 AM to sunset daily, offering plenty of time to enjoy the sun, sand, and water with your dog.
Fort De Soto Dog Park / Beach is designed with both canines and their companions in mind, offering a range of services to enhance your visit:
- Designated Off-Leash Dog Beach: This is arguably the most celebrated feature. Fort De Soto boasts a significant stretch of beach where dogs are allowed to run and swim off-leash. The calm, shallow waters of the bay make it ideal for dogs of all sizes and swimming abilities to safely enjoy the water.
- Fenced Dog Park Areas: In addition to the beach, there are two distinct fenced-in areas. One is specifically designed for smaller dogs, providing a secure environment for them to play without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous pups. The other is a spacious area for large dogs, allowing them to stretch their legs and engage in vigorous play.
- Dog Wash Stations: After a fun-filled day of romping in the sand and splashing in the water, your dog might need a rinse. Fort De Soto provides convenient dog showers or wash stations, making it easy to clean off sandy paws and salty fur before heading home.
- Water Stations for Dogs and Humans: Staying hydrated is crucial in the Florida heat. The park provides water fountains at dog-level, ensuring your canine companion has access to fresh drinking water. Human drinking fountains are also available.
- Waste Bag Dispensers: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, dog waste bags are often provided by the Friends of Fort De Soto through donations. Visitors are encouraged to pick up after their pets to keep the park beautiful for everyone.
- Restroom Facilities: Conveniently located near the dog park and beach areas, clean public restrooms are available for human visitors.
What makes Fort De Soto Dog Park / Beach truly special for Florida dog owners?
- Expansive Off-Leash Beach Access: This is a major highlight. Very few locations in Florida offer such a vast, dedicated beach area where dogs can truly roam off-leash and swim freely in calm, clear waters. It's often described as having "lots of room for the dogs to run" and "nice sand, nice small waves for the dogs to run and play and jump in the water."
- Separate Areas for All Dog Sizes: The thoughtful inclusion of two fenced-in play areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, ensures that every dog, regardless of their size or temperament, can enjoy a safe and comfortable play environment. This minimizes potential conflicts and allows for more appropriate socialization.
- Beautiful Scenery and Natural Environment: Fort De Soto Park is a natural wonderland. The dog park and beach are nestled within this picturesque setting, offering stunning views, soft sand, and clear water. It’s not just a park for dogs; it’s a beautiful outdoor space for humans to enjoy, too.
- Visitor-Friendly Amenities: From dog showers to readily available waste bags and restrooms, the park goes the extra mile to provide conveniences that make a day out with your dog as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
- Community Atmosphere: Many visitors report a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where dog lovers gather, often leading to pleasant interactions between owners and their pets.
While Fort De Soto Dog Park / Beach doesn't typically offer specific daily "promotions" in the traditional sense, visitors can take advantage of the park's annual passes. An annual pass can be a cost-effective option for frequent visitors, potentially offering savings compared to paying the daily $6 parking fee each time. Discounts on annual passes are also available for current and former military members ($55/year), individuals 65 years of age and over ($55/year), and people with limited incomes ($37.50). Check with Pinellas County Parks and Recreation for the most up-to-date information on pass pricing and eligibility.
Beyond structured promotions, the "special offer" of Fort De Soto lies in its unique value proposition: access to one of the few designated off-leash dog beaches in the region, combined with extensive amenities, all for a reasonable park entrance fee. This makes it an inherently great value for local dog owners seeking an exceptional outdoor experience.

May 05, 2025 · LAND ROVERThis beach is the closest off-leash beach to us (40 mins) and it has such beautiful, clear water to swim in! Weekdays are super easy to find parking, they have bathrooms and it’s $6 to park. Our giant dog had a blast, and found so many friends to play with!! Highly recommend this spot 🫶🏻
May 28, 2025 · Paige EngelsonI want to live here! It is LITERALLY the most beautiful beach; closest to my house. Dog beach is pristine. It’s a little piece of heaven; words cannot express my love for this beach. AND the dog park. It is absolutely amazing to have a fenced in, huge, shaded, area about 300 feet from the ocean. Running water provided at the park. Not for shampoo dog baths; just for drinking. I saw some people actually use soap to clean off their dog, which is not allowed. And one very important factor- BYOB- bring your own doggie bowls. Luckily, I had a foldable one on the leash otherwise we would have been sol. You may want to bring some potty bags with you because the last time we went the complementary rolls were completely empty. Other than that, you are good to go. Peaceful, tranquil, plenty of trails to walk the kids with lots of shade. I would be there EVERY DAY if it wasn’t an 80 minute drive. It is ALWAYS a perfect day when we go there!!! (Also, $6 to park for the WHOLE day; not per hour.)
Mar 02, 2025 · Lauren NielsenGreat place to take the dogs. They had a blast running on the beach with all the other dogs. Clean area as well as fenced grassy areas to let them run and a dog wash station.
Apr 28, 2025 · Eva PrattA fantastic place for those that have fur babies that enjoy the sun and water! We took our granddogger for some fun in the sun, and exercise. After all, she is a champion dock diver. She met new friends and wore herself out swimming and playing. Highly recommend for everyone!
