My dog loved this park. Very spacious. I'd say the only downside for some people is the noise from the highway above. I didn't have a problem getting my dog to hear and see my commands. There is a separate small and large dog area. Lots of shade. We'll be back if we are passing through.

This address places it squarely within the Historic Kenwood neighborhood, known for its charm and accessibility to various parts of St. Petersburg. Its central location makes it easily reachable for residents not only from Kenwood but also from surrounding areas in St. Pete and Pinellas County.
Accessibility is one of Kenwood Dog Park's strong points. The park is easily found and offers convenient parking options for visitors. Its integration into the urban fabric means it’s a quick drive for many local residents, minimizing travel time and maximizing playtime. While some noise from a nearby overpass is noted by visitors, this is often seen as a minor trade-off for the park's significant advantages and accessibility within the city. Services Offered
Kenwood Dog Park provides a range of essential services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners:
- Separate Small and Large Dog Areas: The park is thoughtfully divided into two distinct, fully fenced sections. One area is dedicated to smaller dogs, and the other to larger dogs, promoting safer and more appropriate play interactions.
- Spacious Off-Leash Areas: Both sections offer ample open space, allowing dogs plenty of room to run, chase, and play fetch freely. The large dog area is noted for being quite expansive, reportedly 50-200 feet wide and 100 yards long.
- Water Jugs/Bowls: While official water fountains may vary in functionality, review data indicates that a "regular local" often keeps water jugs filled and distributed around the sitting areas, ensuring dogs have access to fresh water. It's still wise for owners to bring their own water, especially during peak times or warm weather.
- Seating Areas: Numerous benches and seating options are available throughout the park, providing comfortable spots for owners to relax and supervise their pets.
- Dog Rinsing Station: A convenient hose or station is available for hosing off dirty dogs before exiting the park, helping to keep cars and homes clean.
- Waste Bag Dispensers: While not explicitly mentioned in all reviews, public dog parks typically offer dispensers with pet waste bags, encouraging responsible clean-up habits. Visitors should always be prepared to bring their own.
- Waste Receptacles: Easily accessible trash cans are available for proper disposal of pet waste.
- Shaded Areas: The park boasts "lots of shade" from mature trees, providing much-needed relief from the Florida sun for both dogs and their human companions.
Features / Highlights
Kenwood Dog Park is recognized for several key features and highlights that contribute to its popularity among local dog owners:
- Very Spacious Layout: A consistently praised feature is the sheer size of the park, particularly the large dog area. This generous space allows dogs to really stretch their legs and run at full speed, which is vital for energetic breeds.
- Excellent Shade: The abundance of mature trees provides ample natural shade, a crucial amenity in Florida's warm climate. This makes visits more comfortable for both dogs and owners, even during sunnier parts of the day.
- Separate Play Areas for All Sizes: The dedicated sections for small and large dogs are highly valued, ensuring that play is appropriate and safe for all canine participants. This thoughtful design minimizes stress and promotes positive interactions.
- Friendly Local Community: The park attracts a community of "friendly locals," fostering a welcoming and sociable atmosphere. This means both dogs and owners have opportunities to make new friends.
- Convenient Rinsing Station: The ability to hose off your dog before leaving is a practical highlight, saving owners from bringing muddy or sandy paws into their vehicles.
- Owner-Provided Water Jugs (Community Spirit): The mention of a "regular local" keeping water jugs filled highlights a strong community spirit and helpfulness among park users, even if official water fountains aren't always fully functional.
- Effective Despite Highway Noise: While the noise from the nearby overpass is acknowledged, it's generally not considered a major impediment to enjoyment. Dogs can still hear commands, and the positive aspects of the park outweigh this minor drawback for most.
- Great for Energetic Dogs: The large, open layout makes it particularly suitable for dogs who need a lot of room to run and burn off energy.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a public park managed by the City of St. Petersburg, Kenwood Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. Its inherent "special offer" to the community is its consistent availability as a free, publicly accessible, and well-maintained space for dog recreation. The value provided is in the quality of the amenities and the safe environment, all without any cost of entry.
However, public dog parks often become informal hubs for local pet-related events or community gatherings. While these are not formal promotions from the park management itself, local animal welfare organizations, dog training groups, or community associations might periodically host events at Kenwood Dog Park, such as adoption days, canine social meet-ups, or even charity walks. To stay informed about any such community-driven "special offers" or activities, local Florida pet owners are encouraged to monitor St. Petersburg community calendars, join local dog-owner social media groups, or check notices at local pet stores and veterinary offices. These types of gatherings provide additional opportunities for connection and enrichment within the local pet community.

Its suitability stems from a combination of practical features, ample space, and a community-oriented atmosphere that prioritizes the well-being and enjoyment of both pets and their owners.
A key advantage for locals is the park's generous size, especially the large dog area. The convenience of a rinsing station and the evident community spirit, where locals contribute to keeping water available, further highlight the park's user-friendly nature and the collaborative environment it fosters.
While the ambient noise from the nearby highway is a minor consideration, it is consistently outweighed by the park's positive attributes and its friendly, welcoming atmosphere. For Florida locals seeking a reliable, spacious, and friendly environment for their furry family members, Kenwood Dog Park is an excellent choice.

My dog loved this park. Very spacious. I'd say the only downside for some people is the noise from the highway above. I didn't have a problem getting my dog to hear and see my commands. There is a separate small and large dog area. Lots of shade. We'll be back if we are passing through.
Jun 14, 2025 · Kenny GaitherGreat big park 50-200' wide and 100' yds long. Lots of seating areas. A regular local keeps up on filling water jugs and puts them around at sitting areas. It's a bit loud because of the overpass. But it's got lots of friendly locals. You can hose your dog off before you exit. #embarkingwithmig
Jan 12, 2024 · Steve HammerAtrocious dog park! It is very filthy and not well kept. There are buckets of stagnant water just laying out. My dog took one small slurp before I could stop him and that's all it took for him to become extremely sick later that night and cost me an emergency visit to the vet. Seriously this is unsafe for people's pets! Whoever is in charge of managing this place is doing a pitiful job! There is trash and stagnant water all over the place. God only knows what kind of bacteria and diseases are in it. I will never go back here again. It's too noisy here as well because it's right underneath interstate traffic, dogs can't even hear you call them.
May 05, 2025 · Stickit 2dmanThis dog park is pretty conveniently located close to where I live. So it gets extra points for that, but its not my favorite spot to bring my dog. It has a lot of space for them to run around in so that’s a big plus. However its located under the highway and can be a bit noisy which can bother my pup sometimes. That and there is usually litter lying around somewhere as well. So its not the cleanest dog park either. Overall the people I’ve ran into there are great though and again its got a lot of space for them to run in.
Jun 06, 2023 · Jake BarsnessThis place is great in size, but isn’t always well maintained. The fence was broken once for like weeks. It’s also a sand pit. Your dog will 100% leave covered In dirt.
