Welcome to Dog Park
For dog owners across the thriving North Texas region, particularly those in Lewisville, discovering a fantastic and spacious place for their canine companions to run freely and socialize safely is always a top priority. The Lewisville Dog Park, located within the larger Railroad Park complex, stands as a prominent destination, offering an impressive six acres dedicated to off-leash canine enjoyment. This well-equipped facility provides ample space and essential amenities designed to ensure a fun and comfortable experience for both pups and their human counterparts.
The Lewisville Dog Park is celebrated for its considerable size and its thoughtful division into separate areas, catering to the needs of various dog breeds and sizes. While like any popular public space, it occasionally faces challenges with user etiquette (such as owners not picking up after their dogs or bringing larger dogs into smaller dog areas), its core offerings and commitment to providing a designated off-leash environment make it a valuable asset to the local community. For Lewisville residents and visitors seeking a place where their dogs can stretch their legs, make new friends, and revel in canine freedom, this park remains a solid choice.
Conveniently situated in Lewisville, Texas, the Lewisville Dog Park is easily accessible for residents throughout the city and surrounding Denton County. You'll find this expansive facility at:
1301 S Railroad St, Lewisville, TX 75057, USA
The park's location within the larger Railroad Park complex means there's typically ample parking available, making it a convenient destination for a spontaneous visit or a planned outing. Its address on South Railroad Street places it centrally within Lewisville, easily reachable from various neighborhoods. The Lewisville Dog Park boasts generous operating hours, typically open daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. However, it's very important for local users to note a crucial detail: the dog park is regularly closed on Thursdays for maintenance until approximately 11:00 AM. This routine upkeep is essential for maintaining the park's condition. Additionally, like many outdoor dog parks, it may be closed due to rain or for several days after heavy rains to allow for proper drainage and prevent damage. Visitors are strongly encouraged to check the park's status via the Lewisville Parks and Recreation Rainout Number before heading out, especially during or after inclement weather.
The Lewisville Dog Park is equipped with a range of services designed to enhance the experience for dogs and their owners:
Dedicated Off-Leash Areas: The park provides distinct, securely fenced sections tailored to accommodate different dog sizes. There is a spacious 5-acre area dedicated to larger breed dogs and a separate, ample 1-acre area dedicated to small breed dogs. This separation aims to provide a safer and more comfortable play environment for all canines, though owners are always encouraged to supervise their dogs closely.
Covered Seating: For the comfort of human companions, covered seating areas are provided in both the small and large dog sections. These offer a shaded spot to relax and observe your furry friends during their playtime.
Wash Station: A convenient wash station is available on-site, perfect for rinsing off muddy paws after a vigorous play session, helping to keep your car clean on the way home.
Drinking and Watering Fountains: Essential for keeping dogs hydrated, particularly during the warm Texas months, drinking and watering fountains are provided. These ensure that both dogs and their owners have access to fresh water.
Waste Disposal Stations: Promoting responsible pet ownership, waste disposal stations are strategically placed throughout the park and are typically well-stocked with pickup bags. This encourages visitors to clean up after their dogs, although adherence to this rule by all users is an ongoing challenge, as noted by some reviews.
Transition Areas: The park features designated transition areas at entrances to facilitate the safe leashing and unleashing of dogs before entering or exiting the off-leash zones.
What truly makes Lewisville Dog Park a valuable asset for North Texas dog owners?
Expansive Six Acres: The sheer size of this dog park is a significant draw, offering plenty of room for dogs to run, sprint, and play without feeling confined. The 5-acre large dog area provides exceptional space for high-energy pups.
Dedicated Small Dog Area: The separate 1-acre area for small dogs is a crucial feature, allowing smaller breeds to play safely and comfortably away from larger, more boisterous dogs, although user vigilance is still recommended.
Well-Maintained Grounds (Generally): While customer reviews indicate occasional issues with pet waste, the park is generally noted for being well-maintained by the City of Lewisville, with regular closures for upkeep contributing to its condition.
Agility Items (Donated): Some agility items, potentially donated by local businesses like Hollywood Feed, may be present, offering additional opportunities for dogs to engage in stimulating physical and mental exercises.
Integration with Railroad Park: Being part of the larger Railroad Park complex means visitors can potentially enjoy other nearby amenities, though the focus here is squarely on the dog park experience.
Reliable Communication (Rainout Line): The provision of a dedicated Rainout Number for checking park status is a valuable feature for locals, helping them plan their visits and avoid disappointment due to weather-related closures.
As a public municipal park, the Lewisville Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or sales. However, as a significant community amenity, it frequently serves as a venue or a focal point for various pet-friendly events and community initiatives organized by the City of Lewisville Parks & Recreation Department or local animal welfare organizations. These opportunities can provide added value for local Texas residents:
"Pooch Pool Party" Events: While not held directly at the dog park, Lewisville Parks & Recreation often hosts popular "Pooch Pool Party" events at city pools after they close for the human swimming season (typically in September). These events allow dogs to swim and play in the pool, offering a unique and highly anticipated annual experience for dog owners in Lewisville.
Adoption Events: Dog parks are natural locations for local animal shelters and rescue groups to hold adoption drives, offering an opportunity to meet adoptable pets and support animal welfare efforts within the community. While not directly announced for the dog park itself, keep an eye on the Lewisville Animal Services calendar.
Community Pet Fairs: Lewisville and nearby Denton County communities often host pet fairs or festivals that might include dog park activities or feature vendors related to pet care. These events provide opportunities for dog owners to connect and learn about local services.
For the most current information on any upcoming events or community programs that might involve or benefit users of the Lewisville Dog Park, local Texas residents should regularly check the official City of Lewisville Parks and Recreation website (playlewisville.com) or their social media channels. These resources will provide the most up-to-date details on any pet-friendly happenings in the area.

Dec 11, 2024 · Kaitlyn RodriguezSome lady showed up kicking/dragging her dogs. I think she was Indian (may be Hispanic) with two dogs -German Shepard & black lab. I didn’t get her license plate or anything as she left abruptly, got back into her car and was hitting her dogs (didn’t even bring them in the park, because they were pulling and excited?) Pretty messed up. If anyone sees her again please report her this lady should NOT have any dogs. Great park though, my pooch loves it!
Apr 01, 2025 · Delaney RoesnerGreat Skate/ Dog Park but tooooo HOT no dogs were around . My pooch was hot and so was I . I assume it's better in cooler weather. Well maintained. Will definitely try to come back if it ever gets cooler here in the Lone star state..A middle aged woman was using the ramps and doing quite well in the morning heat. There were also a large field forfeit all soccer and LaCrosse Games . I also noticed a sign for food trucks ..
Aug 31, 2021 · Deborah “Gourmet Mermaid Shopper”I pretty much go this park every week weather permitting. Chewy always runs the fence line and barks at the dogs. The people that bring there pets are always very nice. The grass is always cut and clean from dog poop.
May 29, 2024 · Sheldon ClarkWe come here 3-4 times a week. Always clean.
