Imagine your furry companion bounding across expansive grassy fields, splashing in refreshing water, and interacting happily with other well-socialized pups. This park provides that ideal setting, allowing dogs to burn off energy, engage their natural instincts, and build crucial social skills in a secure and welcoming environment.
What makes Barkham at Markham a particularly cherished spot for Florida residents is its consistent dedication to providing a high-quality experience. Owners frequently commend its cleanliness and the orderly nature of the park. It’s a place where responsible pet ownership is encouraged, leading to a more enjoyable visit for everyone. Whether you have a tiny terrier or a large retriever, this park offers the perfect backdrop for a fun-filled day out, solidifying its status as a premier dog park in the South Florida area.
Markham Park is a large, diverse recreational area, and Barkham is a dedicated, approximately three-acre section within it. Upon entering Markham Park, visitors will find clear signage directing them to the dog park area. Parking is available on-site, which is a significant convenience. However, it's important for visitors to note that Markham Park, as a Broward County regional park, typically has a weekend and holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 and under are usually free). This gate fee provides access to the entire park, including Barkham.
The dog park itself boasts excellent accessibility features. Reviews highlight "eight-foot-wide asphalt paths that wind through the park, perfect for leisurely strolls or invigorating jogs with your canine companions." The entire dog park is "fully accessible," ensuring that owners with various mobility needs can comfortably navigate the area. The entrance features a "security gate" or "double-gated entrance," providing a safe and controlled entry/exit point for dogs.

-
Abundant Waste Management: The provision of "a lot of bags to collect the poop" makes responsible cleanup easy and helps maintain the park's cleanliness.
-

Integration with Markham Park: Being part of a larger county park means access to additional amenities and activities within Markham Park, such as picnicking, biking trails, and natural areas (though dogs must be leashed outside Barkham).
-
Park Entrance Fee: Access to Barkham at Markham requires paying the standard Markham Park gate entrance fee. This fee is typically $1.50 per person on weekends and holidays (children 5 and under are free). While not a "promotion," it's a very affordable price for access to a large, well-maintained park and its dog facilities. During weekdays, there is usually no gate fee for general park entry.
-
Dog Park Pass: For frequent visitors, Broward County Parks offers a specific dog park pass. While details specific to Barkham might be integrated, a general Broward County Dog Park Pass may be available for a flat annual fee (e.g., $25 per household for an annual pass, plus sales tax, as per some reports for other Broward County dog parks). This allows unlimited entry to participating dog parks, providing significant savings for regular users.
-

The most compelling reason for locals to frequent Barkham at Markham is its ability to cater to dogs of all sizes through its separated off-leash areas. This crucial feature ensures a safer and more comfortable play environment, where smaller, more delicate dogs aren't overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous ones, and vice versa. This level of consideration for canine social dynamics is a significant benefit, fostering positive interactions and reducing stress for both pets and their owners.

The convenience of a dog washing area is another standout amenity, particularly useful after an enthusiastic play session.
The secure, fully fenced perimeters with security gates provide unparalleled peace of mind, allowing dogs to run and explore freely without risk of wandering off. This freedom of movement is vital for a dog's physical exercise and mental stimulation, helping them burn off energy and maintain a healthy lifestyle in a controlled setting.
Finally, its integration within the larger Markham Park means that locals gain access to a fantastic dog park as part of a broader recreational hub. While a small gate fee applies on weekends and holidays, the value provided by Barkham, combined with the option of an annual pass for frequent visitors, makes it a highly economical and enjoyable part of the pet-owning lifestyle in South Florida. For residents seeking a clean, safe, spacious, and well-managed environment for their dogs to socialize and thrive, Barkham at Markham is truly an ideal local destination.

Apr 14, 2024 · KATY MARTINISIWe enjoy taking our 5 mth old Cane Corso "Deadpool" to socialize him there and look forward to going weekly. The dog park is very well kept and everyone seems to have good dogs for the most part. There is a annual fee to be able to bring your dogs here and you will have to use your member card to gain access.
Dec 04, 2020 · Barbra NabridgeFor $26 a year pass with your dog being up to date with rabies shot. You can enjoy this awesome park for your fur baby. They have big dog area, small dog and tiny dog area.
Nov 16, 2021 · RJ JohnsonGood amount of space, with plenty of shade so you can hang around on the grass while the dogs play. Very clean and well kept, hence the sitting on the grass. Strict rules allow a little more reassurance that your peers are equally invested in having fun and socializing our dogs.
