I go to this park everyday. It tends to flood every time it rains and take a while to drain. There is a dumping/stinky pond next to it, so mosquitoes are always on the hunt. But, my pup loves it (whenever we can actually enter the doggie park). He doesn't know better lol

This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of this local dog park, offering insights into its features, accessibility, and important considerations for residents and visitors alike. Our goal is to help local New York dog owners make informed decisions about whether Woofingtonville Dog Park is the right fit for their furry family members.
Woofingtonville Dog Park is a community-oriented facility provided by the Village of Washingtonville, designed to give dogs a secure environment to socialize, exercise, and burn off energy. As part of the broader recreational offerings within the village, it represents a commitment to providing amenities that cater to all members of the community, including our four-legged friends. The park encourages responsible pet ownership and provides a structured setting for dogs to interact, fostering a sense of community among local dog enthusiasts. While every park has its unique characteristics, understanding these aspects in advance can greatly enhance your visit and ensure a positive experience for both you and your canine companion.
Woofingtonville Dog Park is situated in Washingtonville, NY 10992, USA. Washingtonville is a picturesque village in Orange County, New York, known for its small-town charm and community spirit. The dog park's location within the village makes it generally accessible for residents of Washingtonville and the surrounding towns in Orange County, such as Salisbury Mills, Blooming Grove, and others.
As a municipal park, its accessibility typically involves ample parking facilities, though the exact configuration and proximity to the dog park entrance may vary. Visitors usually arrive by car, and local roads provide relatively easy access to the village. For those coming from further afield within New York, Washingtonville is reachable via various state routes, connecting it to larger population centers in the Hudson Valley. It's always a good practice to consult a GPS or mapping application for the most precise directions and to assess current traffic conditions before your visit. The park is generally open daily from dawn to dusk, offering flexibility for dog owners to visit at various times throughout the day, weather permitting.
Woofingtonville Dog Park, as a public facility, offers fundamental services centered around providing an off-leash environment for dogs. These services typically include:
-
Dedicated Off-Leash Area: The primary service is a designated, likely fenced, area where dogs can legally and safely run and play without a leash under owner supervision.
-
Waste Disposal: The park generally provides waste stations, often stocked with bags, to encourage responsible pet waste removal and maintain a clean environment for all users.
-
Space for Socialization: It serves as a communal gathering spot, allowing dogs to interact with their peers, which is crucial for canine social development.
-
Agility Equipment: Some reviews indicate the presence of agility equipment, which provides additional opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation for dogs.
-
Accessibility for Permitted Users: The park is open to both Washingtonville residents and non-residents who have obtained the necessary use permit.
Woofingtonville Dog Park presents several features that may appeal to local dog owners, alongside some aspects to be aware of:
-
Agility Equipment: A significant highlight is the availability of agility equipment, which allows dogs to engage in more structured play, practice commands, and enhance their physical fitness.
-
Community Hub: The park acts as a focal point for local dog owners, fostering a sense of community and providing opportunities for both dogs and humans to make new friends.
-
Dedicated Off-Leash Space: Having a designated area for off-leash play is a valuable amenity, promoting healthy exercise and socialization for dogs.
-
Regular Maintenance (by Village): As a municipal park, it is subject to maintenance by the Village of Washingtonville, ensuring a certain level of upkeep, including the provision of waste bags.
-
Considerations: It's important for visitors to note potential issues raised in community feedback. These include reports of the park being prone to flooding after rain, leading to drainage issues, and a nearby "stinky pond" which may contribute to mosquito presence. Furthermore, some users have noted the park's surface is primarily gravel, which can get hot and potentially harm dogs' paws, and that the areas for dogs might be perceived as small.
As a municipal dog park operated by the Village of Washingtonville, Woofingtonville Dog Park does not typically feature commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional sense. Its primary "offer" is the provision of a public recreational space for dogs. However, there is a key operational detail that serves as an important "offer" distinction:
-
Permit System: Use of the Woofingtonville Dog Park requires a permit, which is obtainable from Village Hall. While the information available indicates "No annual fee is required," a review from a real customer mentioned a $75 fee for non-residents. This suggests there might be specific permit requirements or fees for non-residents versus residents, or perhaps the "no annual fee" refers only to residents. Prospective visitors, especially non-residents of Washingtonville, should confirm current permit requirements and any associated fees directly with the Village of Washingtonville before planning their visit to ensure seamless access. Replacement dog park tags, for both residents and non-residents, have a stated fee of $5.00.
Any community-wide events or dog-related programs might be announced through the Village of Washingtonville's official channels, rather than specific "promotions" for the dog park itself.
For detailed information regarding Woofingtonville Dog Park permits, rules, or general inquiries about Village of Washingtonville facilities, the best point of contact is the Village Hall.
- Address: Washingtonville, NY 10992, USA (For general Village inquiries, the Village Hall is located at 9 Fairlawn Drive, Washingtonville, New York 10992.)
- Phone: 845-496-3221 (This is the general phone number for the Village Clerk, who can direct inquiries about the dog park and permits.)
It is highly recommended to contact the Village of Washingtonville directly, especially regarding the permit requirements and any current status on potential flooding or other conditions, before planning a visit.
For dog owners residing in Washingtonville and the surrounding communities of Orange County, New York, Woofingtonville Dog Park offers a valuable opportunity for their pets to engage in off-leash play and socialization. Despite some reported challenges, such as occasional flooding, a nearby odor, or the gravel surface heating up, the park's fundamental purpose — providing a dedicated space for canine exercise — remains. The presence of agility equipment is a significant plus, offering an additional layer of enrichment for active dogs.
The requirement for a permit ensures that users are registered, which can contribute to a more controlled and potentially safer environment, as it implies a level of accountability among park users. While the cost for non-residents is a factor to consider, for dedicated dog owners seeking a local, regulated off-leash area, the investment may be worthwhile. The key for a positive experience at Woofingtonville Dog Park lies in understanding its specific characteristics, being prepared for environmental factors like heat on paws or mosquitoes, and being aware of the permit system. By doing so, local New Yorkers can effectively utilize this community asset to foster happy, healthy, and well-socialized dogs within their hometown.

Jun 02, 2025 · Josi HightowerNo grass, it's all gravel and it gets super hot on the dogs paws and burns their paws, one of my dogs got a blister and some of the padding on his paw pealed off. The areas for the dogs is super small, and for non-residents they have to pay $75 to have a dog there...totally not worth it, I'd completely skip it.
Jun 15, 2020 · Trinity JonesThe dog park is nice but there's no benches or obstacles for the dogs. Hopefully they will eventually have them. Some people wrote that they had to pay a fee. When I got there no one was there enforcing this, and there were no signs that said anything about a fee.
