Great park to play basketball, bring your dogs, to go on a hiking trail or to relax and have fun! Nice, clean and well kept areas. Plenty of free side street parking, and playground areas for the kiddos. Love the Woodlawn dog run area the most! It’s so well maintained and that’s pretty impressive. Being able to let the pups off the leash to run free is so exciting if you live in the city and don’t have a backyard or terrace. It’s not like typical dog parks, bc of the newer gate styles, benches, and the vertical positioning makes it a good amount of area for the dogs to run back and forth. Additionally, it’s like a two for one deal because it’s split down the middle by concrete and fencing, so probably everyone can enjoy the park without conflict between different dog types. The finely grounded sand feels good to stand on and probably stays cool in the summers and doesn’t get the dogs paws too messy. Definitely worth a stop by if you’re in the area!

Its impressive upkeep, intelligent layout, and convenient amenities make it a premier destination for anyone looking to give their furry friend a quality outdoor experience without leaving the city. Whether your dog loves to sprint, play with other pups, or simply enjoy the freedom of off-leash exploration, Oneida Run provides an ideal setting for healthy and happy canine adventures.

Location and Accessibility

The Oneida Run dog park is conveniently located at the intersection of Oneida Avenue & Van Cortlandt Park E, Bronx, NY 10470, USA. Its strategic placement within the vast Van Cortlandt Park offers a dual benefit: easy accessibility for local New Yorkers while also providing the feel of a larger, natural environment. For those residing in the Bronx and even parts of Westchester, this location is highly convenient, minimizing travel time and maximizing playtime.

One of the key advantages highlighted by local users is the abundance of free side street parking available, which is a significant relief in a city where parking can often be a challenge. This makes it straightforward for owners to drive to the park, unload their pups, and enjoy their visit without worrying about meters or limited spaces. Additionally, its proximity to various hiking trails within Van Cortlandt Park means that a trip to Oneida Run can easily be combined with a longer leashed walk, offering a more comprehensive outdoor experience for both dogs and their owners. Public transportation options also serve the Van Cortlandt Park area, making it accessible even for those without personal vehicles.

Services Offered

Oneida Run provides a range of services and amenities specifically designed to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for all visitors, both human and canine:

  • Separated Dog Areas: A key feature is its intelligent design, which includes a split layout. The park is "split down the middle by concrete and fencing," allowing for potential separation of different dog types or play styles, ensuring a harmonious environment for all users and their pets.

  • Waste Stations: The park is well-equipped with stations providing dog waste bags and disposal bins. This crucial service encourages responsible pet ownership and contributes significantly to the park's noted cleanliness and excellent maintenance.

  • Benches and Seating: Numerous benches are strategically placed throughout the park, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax, supervise their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents.

  • Water Access: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, most well-maintained dog parks in NYC offer some form of water access (like fountains or spigots) for dogs, which is essential for hydration during play. It is generally safe to assume that a well-regarded park like Oneida Run would cater to this fundamental need.

  • Dedicated Space for Off-Leash Play: For many city residents, the greatest service is simply providing a secure, fenced-in area where dogs can legally and safely run off-leash, a luxury not afforded by many urban living situations.

Features / Highlights

Oneida Run stands out among New York City dog parks due to several exceptional features and highlights:

  • Exceptional Maintenance: A recurring theme in reviews is the park's impressive cleanliness and "very well maintained" status. This level of upkeep is highly valued by users and contributes significantly to a positive experience.

  • Newer Gate Styles and Vertical Positioning: The park incorporates "newer gate styles" and its "vertical positioning makes it a good amount of area for the dogs to run back and forth." This clever design maximizes the usable space, allowing dogs ample room to stretch their legs and play.

  • Finely Grounded Sand Surface: The ground material is described as "finely grounded sand," which offers several benefits. It feels good to stand on for both humans and dogs, likely stays cool in the summer, and is less prone to making dogs' paws overly messy, ensuring a cleaner exit from the park.

  • Friendly Community: The park is consistently described as being "always full of friendly people with their dogs," fostering a welcoming and positive atmosphere for socialization among both pets and their owners.

  • Proximity to Van Cortlandt Park Trails: Its location right near an entrance to the extensive Van Cortlandt Park trails is a major highlight. This allows owners to easily transition from off-leash play to leashed walks or hikes on picturesque trails, offering a varied and enriching outdoor experience.

  • Versatile Recreational Hub: Beyond the dog park, the surrounding area offers basketball courts and playground areas for children, making it a versatile destination for families with diverse recreational interests. This "two for one deal" aspect enhances its appeal as a community gathering spot.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public dog park managed by NYC Parks & Recreation, Oneida Run does not typically offer commercial promotions or special offers in the retail sense. Its inherent value lies in providing a free, well-maintained, and accessible public space for dog owners and their pets.

Any special events, community gatherings, or pet-related programs that might occur at or near Oneida Run would generally be organized by NYC Parks, local community groups, or animal welfare organizations. Information about such events would be disseminated through official NYC Parks channels, community boards, or local social media groups dedicated to dog owners in the Bronx.

The "special offer" for New Yorkers is the consistent availability of a high-quality, free-to-use facility that significantly enhances the lives of urban dogs by allowing them vital off-leash exercise and socialization opportunities that might otherwise be difficult to access in a dense city environment.

Great dog park! Very well maintained and always full of friendly people with their dogs. Our doggies love it here. It’s also right near an entrance to Van Cortlandt park trails.

So, the park is okay some of the people there today 9/13/24 6:00pm were extremely rude in the way they made me feel. Understood my dogs aren’t neutered but I train them and have had them go to many dog parks with no issues. I definitely would recommend telling the lady Geraldin to stop acting like she owns the park. And if the dogs can’t play nice maybe they shouldn’t be at the dog park. It’s for all dogs not just select dogs.

Cute little park with two dog parks in it. im assuming its one for the big dog and another for the little ones and the trail goes pretty long LOADS OF MOSQUITO so bring plenty of bug spray. Definitely look into the park I believe this trail goes to the back of Van courtland please dont hold me against it not sure, but Ill definitely look into it for sure other than that I think its cute. Have to find parking alot of the times I go and there is but if i habe to say one day the most everything was on top of each other and count find nothing to walk my dog, so I took her to the next park, you know better lucky next time for her but definitely worth the going they got benches to sit and sometimes the dog watering pump works but i bring my own water for my dog just in case of anything.
