  • Separate Sections for Dog Sizes: The park thoughtfully includes distinct, gated areas for both large dogs and small dogs. This separation helps ensure a comfortable and safe play environment for all sizes and temperaments.
  • Water Access (Spigot): While not always a dedicated dog fountain, there is a water spigot located "outside the park" or "by the front gate" to provide fresh water for dogs. Visitors are advised to bring their own bowls.
  • Waste Bag Dispensers: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, the park typically provides waste bag dispensers, encouraging users to pick up after their dogs.
  • Trash Receptacles: Bins are available for convenient disposal of dog waste, contributing to the park's overall cleanliness.
  • Dog Walking Trail: Beyond the main fenced areas, the park also features a designated "dog walking trail," offering additional space for on-leash walks or cool-downs.
Features / Highlights

Grass Island Dog Park boasts several features and highlights that make it a unique and appealing destination for dog owners in Connecticut:

  • Secure Fencing: The park is fully fenced, providing a critical safety feature that allows dogs to roam off-leash without the constant worry of them wandering off or encountering hazards. The large dog section even includes an "extra gated section" for added security.

  • Grass-Covered Play Area: The park is "mostly grassed, with a moderate slope," offering a natural and comfortable surface for dogs to run and play, as opposed to concrete or gravel.
  • Accessible Water Source: The presence of a water spigot, even if it's outside the main play area, is a crucial feature for keeping dogs hydrated, especially after energetic play sessions.
  • Proximity to Other Amenities: Grass Island is a peninsula that also features "nature trails, picnic tables, Town marina, boat, and trailer storage," making it a versatile destination for a day out.

Promotions or Special Offers

However, local community groups, animal welfare organizations, or the Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department itself may occasionally host special events at or near the park that could be considered beneficial "offers" to the local dog community. These might include:

  • Pet Adoption Events: Local animal shelters or rescue organizations might hold adoption days, providing opportunities to meet adoptable dogs.
  • Community Clean-Up Days: Volunteer events focused on maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the park and surrounding areas, fostering community involvement.
  • Dog-Related Workshops: Occasionally, local trainers or veterinarians might offer free or low-cost workshops on topics such as responsible pet ownership, basic obedience, or pet health and safety.
  • Informal Meet-ups: Local dog breed-specific groups or general dog owner clubs might organize "paw-ties" or regular meet-ups at the park, enhancing social opportunities for both dogs and their owners.

Its existence addresses a fundamental need for dog owners: a safe, dedicated, and stimulating environment where their beloved pets can truly thrive off-leash.

The park’s key features directly align with what local dog owners seek. The secure fencing provides paramount peace of mind, allowing dogs the freedom to run and play without the constant vigilance required in unfenced areas. I loved the dog park and they divide the small and big dogs. They have great scenery and also plenty of park. Make sure to bring your own water because they don’t provide it.

There's a dog park here which is cool. Nice place to walk around. Some walkways around too. Not bad for the size. Plenty of benches and couple of tables near the water.
