My dogs loved stopping here! Nicely maintained with a few trails through the grassy field. There’s a nice pavilion that provides some shade and a place to sit. There’s water and bowls available too! One of the best parks we’ve been to on our many road trips.

Welcome to Spring Green Dog Park
For dog owners in the picturesque village of Spring Green, Wisconsin, and those traveling through the beautiful Wisconsin River Valley, discovering a dedicated and welcoming space for their canine companions is a true delight. The Spring Green Dog Park stands out as a well-regarded off-leash facility, offering a blend of open spaces and natural features that cater to the exercise and social needs of dogs of all sizes.
Despite being in a smaller community, this park punches above its weight, providing thoughtful amenities and a friendly atmosphere that makes it a favorite among locals and even road-tripping pet parents. While every park has its unique considerations, Spring Green Dog Park offers a genuine opportunity for dogs to run freely and enjoy the outdoors. This comprehensive guide will explore the various facets of Spring Green Dog Park, from its distinctive landscape to its community-supported operations, helping you plan your next visit.
The Spring Green Dog Park is a community-supported off-leash dog exercise area, recognized for its natural beauty and convenient amenities. It features a spacious layout with a mix of mowed grassy fields and areas of tall-grass prairie, offering a unique and stimulating environment for dogs. This prairie element provides an interesting "level of difficulty" for games of chase and adds a rich sensory experience for sniffing and exploring, setting it apart from more conventional turf dog parks.
The park is designed with both dog and owner comfort in mind, including a nice pavilion for shade and seating. It generally fosters a friendly atmosphere, with many visitors highlighting the communal spirit, such as the availability of shared toys and waste bags. Operated by the "Friends of The Spring Green Dog Park," this facility is a testament to local dedication, maintaining a well-kept space that's appreciated by both local residents and travelers passing through Wisconsin.
The Spring Green Dog Park is located at S12947 Shifflet Rd, Spring Green, WI 53588, USA. This address places it within easy reach of Spring Green's village center and provides convenient access for those traveling along nearby state highways. While Spring Green is a smaller town, the dog park is a notable amenity that enhances its appeal.
The park is open year-round during daylight hours, offering flexibility for visits throughout the day. It provides dedicated parking, making access straightforward. One reviewer noted its proximity to "the sketchier part of town" and observed people "just standing by the sign waiting," advising vigilance, especially if visiting at night. However, during daylight hours, it generally functions as a safe and enjoyable public space. As always, it's crucial to keep your dog leashed until you are securely inside the fenced off-leash area and to be aware of your surroundings.
Spring Green Dog Park offers a range of services and amenities designed to enhance the off-leash experience for dogs and their owners:
- Fenced Off-Leash Area: The core service is a secure, fenced space where dogs can run freely and socialize.
- Separate Small Dog Area: A dedicated, separately fenced section is available for smaller dogs, providing a safer environment for them to play without being overwhelmed by larger, more active canines.
- Mowed Trails and Open Fields: The park features well-maintained mowed paths through grassy fields, including a straightaway for long-distance fetch, as well as areas of tall-grass prairie for exploration.
- Shaded Pavilion/Structure: A pavilion or small structure provides much-needed shade and a place for owners to sit and rest.
- Water Access & Bowls: Water is available on-site, and communal water bowls are often provided, which is a great convenience, though bringing your own water is always a good idea.
- Communal Toys: The park often features shared tennis balls and other toys, adding to the fun and fostering a community feel.
- Waste Bags: Communal waste bags are frequently available, demonstrating a strong community effort to keep the park clean, though owners should always carry their own as well.
- Benches: Various seating options are likely available for owners.
Spring Green Dog Park offers several distinctive features that make it a cherished spot for dog lovers in Wisconsin:
- Unique Prairie Landscape: The inclusion of tall-grass prairie areas provides a stimulating and visually interesting environment, adding a natural "level of difficulty" and exploration for dogs beyond typical mowed lawns.
- Well-Maintained Trails: The park features "nicely maintained" trails through its grassy fields, offering pleasant walking paths for owners while their dogs play.
- Shade and Seating: The presence of a "nice pavilion" or small structure provides valuable shade and a comfortable place to sit, especially on sunny days.
- Community-Driven Amenities: The availability of communal tennis balls, toys, waste bags, and water bowls highlights a strong community spirit and dedication to making the park enjoyable for everyone.
- Separate Areas for All Sizes: The distinct sections for small and large dogs ensure a safer and more comfortable experience for canines of varying sizes and play styles.
- Free Access: The park operates on a donation basis, making it accessible to all, which is a significant benefit for local users and travelers.
- Traveler-Friendly: Praised as "one of the best parks we’ve been to on our many road trips," indicating its suitability and quality for those passing through Wisconsin.
The Spring Green Dog Park is a public amenity that operates without a mandatory entrance fee or permit, making it a highly accessible "offer" for all responsible dog owners in Wisconsin. There is no membership or passes required to use the park.
However, the park's maintenance and the provision of its thoughtful amenities, such as waste bags and water, are supported entirely by the generosity of its users and the efforts of the "Friends of The Spring Green Dog Park." This volunteer group actively welcomes and appreciates monetary donations to assist with purchasing supplies and for general maintenance and upkeep of the property. Donations are conveniently accepted at Peoples Community Bank in Spring Green.
This donation-based system means that the "promotion" is the continued availability of a high-quality, free-to-use dog park, sustained by the community it serves. Visitors are encouraged to contribute what they can to ensure these valuable amenities remain available. As with any dog park, standard rules apply, including ensuring your dog is licensed, vaccinated, and under control, and that you clean up after them immediately. These regulations are posted at the entrance gate to maintain safety and well-being for all.
For more specific information regarding the Spring Green Dog Park, including its rules, current conditions, or how to contribute, you can typically reach out to the Village of Spring Green or the dedicated "Friends" group.

For dog owners residing in Wisconsin, particularly in the Spring Green area and those journeying through the southwestern part of the state, the Spring Green Dog Park offers a highly suitable and enjoyable off-leash experience. Its blend of mowed fields and unique tall-grass prairie provides a stimulating and diverse environment for canine exercise and exploration, setting it apart from more conventional dog parks. This variety ensures that dogs can engage in different types of play, from high-speed chases to intriguing scent work.
The thoughtful provision of amenities such as a shaded pavilion, readily available water bowls, and communal toys and waste bags significantly enhances the user experience, making visits comfortable and convenient. The strong sense of community, evident in the shared resources and responsible behavior of visitors, creates a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for both dogs and their owners. While one review mentioned concerns about ticks in tall grass and perceived safety at night, these are common considerations for any outdoor, natural park environment and can be mitigated with vigilance and appropriate precautions.
The fact that the park operates on a free-will donation basis, with no mandatory permits, underscores its accessibility and community-driven spirit. It truly embodies a local amenity supported by the people who cherish it. For any Wisconsin dog owner seeking a well-maintained, naturally engaging, and community-friendly space for their beloved pet, Spring Green Dog Park is an excellent choice, providing a charming oasis for canine fun and relaxation.

Jul 06, 2024 · Kelly O'BrienI love the fact that a small town like this even has a dog park. You have to be careful though, after going in the tall grass my dogs have come back with ticks on them. The communal tennis balls, toys, waste bags, and water bowls are a very nice addition. The small structure that was built is much appreciated for staying out of the sun. This is near the sketchier part of town and I see some people just standing by the sign waiting but I've never actually seen them do much. If anyone goes there at night just stay safe and be vigilant.

Nov 28, 2019 · Peter ZeltinsIt is a great little dog park. The owners and the pets have always been friendly and the dogs live playing with each other. When I have him with me we aleays make sure to stop and let him have some fun.
Sep 28, 2022 · Troy NetheryA bit overgrown but our dogs had a good time. Small dogs don't like wet tall grass! it would be nicer if mowed.
