Look no further than Mustang Dog Park, a local gem designed with your furry friends in mind. This dedicated off-leash area provides the perfect environment for dogs to socialize, exercise, and simply be dogs, all within a secure and well-maintained setting. More than just a patch of grass, Mustang Dog Park has become a vibrant hub for the local pet community, fostering a friendly atmosphere for both pups and their people.
Over the years, Mustang Dog Park has continuously evolved to meet the needs of its visitors. Past challenges, such as muddy areas, have been addressed through recent updates, ensuring a more enjoyable experience year-round. This commitment to improvement makes it a reliable and increasingly popular destination for dog owners from Mustang and the surrounding Oklahoma communities. It's a place where tails wag, friendships are forged, and every visit is an opportunity for boundless canine joy.
Mustang Dog Park is conveniently located at 530 SW 59th St, Mustang, OK 73064, USA. Nestled just east of the Mustang Animal Shelter, its proximity offers a unique benefit: shelter dogs occasionally get the chance to interact with people visiting the park, providing them with valuable socialization. The park is part of the larger Wild Horse Park, a significant recreational area in Mustang that houses various facilities, making it a central point for community activities.
Accessibility is a key advantage for local users. The park's location within Mustang makes it easy to reach for residents in the immediate area and those in nearby Oklahoma City metro communities. For those arriving by car, there's ample parking available, ensuring a hassle-free visit. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily, offering flexibility for dog owners to visit at their convenience, whether it's for an early morning romp or an evening stroll with their furry friends.
Mustang Dog Park focuses on providing a straightforward, safe, and enjoyable off-leash experience for dogs. While it doesn't offer a vast array of complex "services" in the traditional sense, it excels in the fundamental provisions that dog owners appreciate:
-
Designated Off-Leash Areas: The core service is providing a secure, fenced environment where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without the need for a leash.
-
Waste Disposal: To maintain cleanliness and hygiene, the park provides free waste disposal stations, including readily available poop bags, encouraging responsible pet ownership.
-
Water Access: Dog drinking areas are available, ensuring your pup stays hydrated, especially during warmer Oklahoma days.
-
Seating for Owners: Benches and rock benches are strategically placed throughout the park, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax while their dogs play.
-
Proximity to Mustang Animal Shelter: While not a direct service, the adjacent animal shelter offers opportunities for interaction between shelter dogs and park visitors, aiding in the socialization of adoptable pets.
Mustang Dog Park boasts several features that enhance the experience for both dogs and their owners, making it a stand-out option among local dog parks:
-
Separate Fenced Areas: A significant highlight is the provision of two separate, fenced, grassy areas. This thoughtful design ensures that small dogs can play safely away from larger, more boisterous dogs, catering to the needs of all sizes and energy levels.
-
Natural Elements and Play Structures: The park incorporates rock hills with tunnels, adding an element of exploration and fun for dogs. These natural and man-made structures provide varied terrain for play and enrichment.
-
Shade Trees: Some shade trees are present within the park, offering natural relief from the Oklahoma sun, a welcome feature during hotter months.
-
Perimeter Sidewalk: A perimeter sidewalk allows for easy walking and access around the fenced areas, ideal for owners who want to get some steps in while supervising their pets.
-
Improved Ground Conditions: Recent updates have specifically targeted the "mud problem" the park once faced, resulting in much-improved ground conditions, ensuring a cleaner and more enjoyable visit for everyone.
-
Portable Restrooms: Conveniently located near the entrance, portable bathrooms are available for human visitors, adding to the overall comfort of the park.
-
Community Atmosphere: The park is known for its friendly environment, with visitors often noting that they "never met an aggressive dog" and that it's a great place to meet other dog owners, especially during morning and evening hours.
While Mustang Dog Park doesn't typically offer ongoing commercial promotions in the way a retail business might, it does host special events that are highly anticipated by the local community. These events serve as fantastic opportunities for dogs and their owners to engage in unique, fun activities.
One notable annual event is the Doggy Easter Egg Hunt. This popular event, often held in April, invites dog owners to bring their leashed pups for an egg hunt at the park. Beyond the hunt itself, these events frequently include free activities and treats from local pet-related businesses. Past events have featured free lemonade, prize wheels, free nail trims, and even free photos with the Easter Bunny! These special gatherings are promoted by the City of Mustang Parks & Recreation department and serve as a wonderful way to build community and celebrate our canine companions. Keep an eye on the City of Mustang's official channels for announcements about upcoming events.

Mar 26, 2024 · Irish DanielsonTwo separate fenced in grassy areas for small or large dogs. Some shade trees, plus rock benches and perimeter sidewalk. Normally no other dogs are there. Best time to meet other dogs is in the morning and evenings. Sign says your dog should be spayed or neutered and up to date on their shots. Includes dog drinking area, poop bags, and rock hills with tunnels. Portable bathrooms are nearby the entrance. Located just east of the Mustang Animal Shelter.
Sep 29, 2024 · John WeidnerIt's nice and clean. There is a rake and pan , and poop bags for clean up. Also two parks and two small pools to fill with water. Each little park area is gated off one for big dogs and one for small dogs. My kids liked it too.
Jun 05, 2020 · Crystal DawnIt could use a little touch-up, but I really appreciate having a dog park at Wild Horse Park. Met some really nice fur babies and their people!
Apr 13, 2025 · Charles MosleyCool dog park. I was just driving through on a road trip and found this place on the map. Lots of space and obstacles for the dogs to use. Next to a pond too! Would recommend.
