This HUGE, beautifully landscaped & designed park was such a gem in the city! Plenty of space & activities to do. A ton of people, but still didn't feel crowded because there are different park activities perfectly spaced. Park rangers on dune buggies were open spotted as well. Family restroom was stocked(toilet paper, soap & paper towels, but definitely not very clean! Parking for the splash pad was terrible, you can park across the street at convention center for $10, or parallel park on the other side of the bridge for free & take about .25 mile walk across the bridge & metal scissors. Many padlocks on the bridge that was really neat to see!

Location and Accessibility

Scissortail Park Dog Park is an integral part of the sprawling Scissortail Park, located in the heart of Oklahoma City, OK 73109, USA. More specifically, the dog park itself is situated in the southwest corner of the park at 300 SW 7th St, Oklahoma City, OK. The larger Scissortail Park extends from the core of downtown Oklahoma City south to the shore of the Oklahoma River, making it a highly central and accessible location for residents across the metro area.

Accessibility to the park is excellent, with multiple ways to reach it. For those driving, parking can be found at various points. While parking directly for the dog park isn't always explicit, convenient options include paid parking at the Convention Center across the street (around $10), or free parallel parking on the other side of the bridge, requiring a short 0.25-mile walk across the bridge. The park is also easily reachable via the Oklahoma City Streetcar, which has a dedicated stop within Scissortail Park on both its Downtown and Bricktown loops, operating approximately every 15 minutes. Services Offered

Scissortail Park Dog Park provides a range of services and amenities specifically tailored for the comfort and enjoyment of dogs and their owners.

  • Separated Large and Small Dog Areas: A key feature for safety and comfort, the park offers distinct, fully-fenced enclosures for both large dogs (over 30 pounds) and small dogs (30 pounds or less). This separation ensures that dogs of similar size and play styles can interact without overwhelming smaller or more timid canines.
  • Drinking Water: Hydration is crucial for active dogs, and the park provides convenient drinking water stations. This means owners don't always need to carry their own water, making visits more convenient.
  • Waste Stations: To maintain cleanliness and hygiene, the park is equipped with waste bags and disposal stations, encouraging owners to responsibly clean up after their pets.
  • Benches and Shaded Areas: For the comfort of human companions, the park includes benches and some shaded areas, allowing owners to relax and observe their dogs in comfort.
  • Park Ranger Presence: The presence of park rangers on dune buggies, as noted by a reviewer, contributes to overall safety and oversight, ensuring rules are followed and assistance is available if needed.
  • On-Leash Walking in Main Park: While the dog park is off-leash, the wider Scissortail Park is dog-friendly, allowing leashed dogs throughout its 70 acres of trails and green spaces. This provides additional opportunities for on-leash walks and exploration beyond the dedicated dog park area.

While one review mentioned a dog getting its head stuck, such incidents are rare and typically addressed through ongoing maintenance and owner vigilance.

As a public park, Scissortail Park Dog Park doesn't typically offer traditional commercial promotions or discounts. However, its "special offers" come in the form of accessible amenities and community events that enhance the experience for locals.

  • Free Public Access: The most significant "promotion" is that the dog park, as part of Scissortail Park, is generally free to access for all visitors, making it a highly inclusive and valuable public resource.
  • Community Events: Scissortail Park frequently hosts various community events, some of which are dog-friendly or dog-centric. A notable example is "Poochella," an annual free festival organized by the Oklahoma Humane Society at Lower Scissortail Park. It's nice with separate parks for big and small dogs. Unfortunately. On this beautiful Spring day, there weren't any other dogs there. My dog tried to escape and got his head stuck between the bars leading to the safety fence. I do have to admit that I wanted to socialize with my dog and was disappointed in no other dogs.

There was a friendly Owl in the big tree! Very clean and multiple areas for fresh water. Free doggie poo bags. Very clean, with a beautiful 360° view. Green and beautiful colors of different flowers! I wish I would have taken more pictures, but I was just in the moment..

Love going for walks with my pup and family here. It's absolutely gorgeous all year long! It's very clean and well taken care of. There's fountains of water for my pup here and even poopie bags and trash cans if needed. There's plenty of things to do at this park, especially with events always being hosted here. Not to mention the amazing view of the Devon tower. There's also a playground for kids, picnic areas, public restrooms, and snack stands nearby. You're sure to have a great time here and create unforgettable memories!💕
