It is so nice to have a separate area for small dogs. Appreciate the parks folks thinking ahead and including a trash bin and poop bags in the middle of the area. There's only one bench in the small pup area and it's at one end (near the entrance). Since the space is long and narrow it would be great to have another seating option that isn't at the end. There is also a low spot in the ground right in front of the only bench so there's a mud puddle in front of the only seating option. The water drinking option is good but was turned off for winter season; probably not a way around that. Even without recent rain, the little pup area was VERY muddy in December. Since this area is downhill from the enormous large dog area, it'll probably never be NOT muddy. Restrooms are quite far from the pup park. The biggest 2 things for Leawood to improve in order to get a 5-star from me would be at least one more bench and better drainage. A bonus would be to increase the space for small pups to include some of the space uphill where the ground is already less wet.

We understand that our furry friends are an integral part of our families, and providing them with ample opportunities for exercise, mental stimulation, and positive interaction with other dogs is paramount to their well-being. Leawoof Dog Park delivers on this promise, fostering a welcoming atmosphere where tails wag freely, friendships are formed, and the simple joy of watching your dog thrive in a secure setting comes alive. Whether you're a long-time resident or new to the area, this park is a beloved local resource you'll be glad to discover.

Leawoof Dog Park is conveniently located at 106th & Lee Boulevard, Leawood, KS 66211, USA. This prime location places it at the eastern edge of Leawood City Park, making it easily accessible for residents of Leawood and surrounding communities within Kansas. The park's accessibility is a significant advantage for local dog owners, offering a straightforward drive for a spontaneous visit or a planned playdate. While specific parking details aren't always highlighted, as part of a larger city park, ample parking is typically available for visitors. This ensures a smooth and hassle-free arrival, allowing you to quickly get your pup into the play area. Its setting within Leawood City Park also means you're close to other park amenities, should you wish to extend your outing. The ease of access contributes significantly to Leawoof Dog Park's popularity, making it a go-to spot for pet owners seeking a quality off-leash experience in the Kansas City metro area.

Leawoof Dog Park is well-equipped with several key services designed to enhance the safety, comfort, and enjoyment for both dogs and their owners.

  • Separate Play Areas: A standout feature highly appreciated by users is the dedicated, fenced-in sections for different dog sizes. There is a distinct area for small dogs (typically 35 lbs and under) and a much larger area for big dogs (over 35 lbs). This separation ensures safer play and reduces potential conflicts, allowing all dogs to socialize appropriately with peers of similar stature and play style.
  • Waste Management: The park thoughtfully provides trash bins and essential poop bags conveniently located within the play areas. This encourages responsible pet ownership and helps maintain the park's cleanliness, ensuring a pleasant environment for everyone.
  • Seasonal Water Access: Dog water fountains are available for hydration. It's important to note that these water drinking options are seasonal and typically turned off during winter months to prevent freezing, so owners should come prepared with their own water during colder periods.
  • Agility Equipment: The large dog area features agility equipment, providing an extra element of fun and mental stimulation for dogs that enjoy more structured play or training.
  • Double-Gated Entrance: For added security and to prevent accidental escapes, the park utilizes double-gated entrances for both sections, providing an extra layer of safety when entering and exiting the off-leash areas.

Leawoof Dog Park boasts several impressive features and highlights that make it a top choice for dog owners in Kansas.

  • Spacious Open Areas: The park offers a generous amount of open space, particularly in the large dog section, allowing dogs to "run his little heart out" and get ample exercise. This open layout is conducive to various forms of play, from chasing balls to full-speed sprints.
  • Shaded Seating: While the small dog area currently has limited seating, the park generally features shaded bench seating, providing comfortable spots for owners to relax and observe their dogs. Recent improvements have added a new bench along the concrete path in the large dog area.
  • New Concrete Walking Path: As part of recent upgrades, a new 6-foot-wide concrete path now encircles the large dog play area. This provides a clean, walkable loop for owners to stroll while their dogs play, enhancing the overall user experience.
  • Good Visibility: One reviewer appreciated the ability to "see the entire area from one vantage point" in the large dog section, making it easy for owners to keep an eye on their pets.
  • Commitment to Improvement: Despite some past challenges like muddy areas in the small dog section, the park demonstrates a commitment to ongoing improvements, such as the new path and upcoming restrooms, indicating a dedication to providing a high-quality facility.
  • New Restrooms Coming Soon: New restroom facilities with a water bottle filler tap are expected to open north of the parking lot, significantly improving convenience for visitors.

As a public amenity managed by Leawood Parks & Recreation, Leawoof Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "promotion" is the provision of a free and accessible, high-quality space for the community's dogs. The park is funded and maintained through city resources and generous donations, such as the recent contributions towards the new concrete path.

However, indirect promotions or community events might occur. Local pet-oriented businesses in Leawood and surrounding areas may occasionally partner with the city or host events that encourage responsible pet ownership and park usage. For example, local pet supply stores or veterinary clinics might sponsor dog-related events or offer discounts that align with supporting local pet recreation. To stay informed about any potential community events, educational programs, or updates related to Leawoof Dog Park, it's advisable to check the official Leawood Parks & Recreation website or their social media channels. These platforms are the best source for news about park enhancements or community gatherings.

Wish we had found this place sooner. Great park with lots of open space. Water is seasonal so come prepared.

Did the small dog park, which was huge! The larger dog park, adjacent to the smaller one, is gigantic! Secure entrance, meaning two gates to pass thru to avoid doggie escapes, dog watering stations, and poop bags available as well. There were plenty of shade and sitting benches for humans. I've never seen such a beautiful, well maintained dog park. 🐕

I had high hopes but there are far better options for dog enrichment. The good? Wide open space. Room for lots of dogs to move around and play. The not so good? It seems like it was put on a flood plain. It's muddy at times it doesn't make sense to be muddy. Hardly any natural shade, or really any shade at all. That'd basically make this place a non-option on summer days. With all the natural brush and trees in the immediate vicinity, it seems like they really missed an opportunity to make this a nature park for dogs with trails like you find at other dog parks. It's all just very "meh."

Absolutely love the fact they have a side for small dogs and large dogs. I have a small dog who doesn't have his own yard so this place is a life saver. And he gets to make friends and play with other dogs. Win/win for the both of us
