My service dog has bad anxiety and has never been to a dog park before. We greatly appreciate everyone who stayed on the other side this past weekend. Lucky ran his heart out for a hour before he had to rest. We are recommending and will be back!

Swope Dog Park provides a range of essential amenities and services designed to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

  • Separate Play Areas: The park features distinct, fully-fenced sections for different dog sizes. There is an area for small dogs (typically 35 pounds and under) and a larger area for big dogs (over 35 pounds). This separation helps to ensure safer interactions and more comfortable play for all dogs, regardless of their size or energy level.

  • Waste Disposal Stations: Promoting responsible pet ownership, the park provides readily available poop bags and waste receptacles, making it easy for owners to clean up after their dogs and maintain the park's cleanliness.
  • Off-Leash Freedom: As an official off-leash dog park, it provides a safe and secure environment for dogs to run and play freely without the constraints of a leash, which is vital for their physical and mental well-being.

  • Generous Size: The dog park covers a substantial five acres, providing ample space for dogs to run, explore, and get plenty of exercise. The large dog side, in particular, spans four full acres.
  • Abundant Shade: A significant benefit, especially during warmer months, is the "plenty of shaded areas" provided by numerous trees within the park. This natural canopy offers much-needed relief from the sun for both dogs and their owners, enhancing comfort during visits.
  • Varied Terrain: The large dog side features interesting elements such as "great hills and wooded areas for the dogs to run and play," and a "woodchip walking path circles large grassy knoll and wooded area." This varied terrain adds an element of exploration and makes playtime more stimulating for dogs.
  • Safe and Secure Environment: Many users feel "safe & secure" at the park, appreciating the fully fenced perimeter and the double-gated entrance, which helps prevent accidental escapes. The general atmosphere is often described as having "nice people" who are attentive to their dogs.

Nice decent sized park. Nothing extraordinary but it’s a good place to exercise a dog and get them some social interaction. I appreciate that they have water bowls around. Plenty of shaded areas. Felt safe & secure.

Very spacious with so much to explore. There’s a big hill and lots of foliage, so they could’ve stayed for hours and never gotten bored. One of my top 3 favorite dog parks in the Midwest. It’s just beautiful too.

This park is lovely. Plenty of tables and shade. Water fountains on both sides. There is a kiddie pool for dogs to splash 8n on hot days, and several water bowls you can fill. There are often some toys laying around. It could use a little maintenance. The gates stick, and it appears someone crashed into the fence in the small dog section so it's no longer safe. There are massive potholes in the parking lot which makes it difficult to park.. Today a large dog on that side pushed through and attacked a smaller (unleashed) dog in the parking lot. It's important to be vigilant here as not everyone's dog is well behaved and not everyone follows the rules put in place for everyone's safety. If you're paying attention, you and your dogs can have a wonderful time.

I and my two goldens have only been here maybe three times but we’re definitely making it a regular thing. We’ve come in the late evening and it’s been really nice, not very busy around 7:00-8:00pm (about an hour before sunset). There are two separate off leash areas and I’ve only gone into the larger of the two. There’s a couple of poo baggy stations and it seems like most everyone picks up after themselves. There’s also a water fountain and water bowls for the dogs, which is a huge plus. I love that there’s lots of grass since I’ve been to a couple of parks that were mostly gravel/mulch/dust that turned to mud after a rain. Pretty much everyone I’ve interacted with was friendly and there were a wide variety of breeds and types of people. There’s a nice walking trail that’s maybe a half mile in length that circles the park. My fur kids aren’t much for playing fetch and I need some exercise so we walk the trail and they love it.
