I used to love this dog park, because It’s only few blocks away from my office, till today my view to this parked has changed, after work I took my eight-month-old puppy to the dog park today, it was a perfect sunny afternoon—until it turned into a nightmare. Out of nowhere, an Africa American lady has a white pit bull mix started playing with my dog, Within seconds, play turned into aggression. The pit bull tried to mount him, puppy resisted, and then the attack began. Puppy was helpless. He was pinned to the ground, too small to fight back, crying out in pain as the pit bull bit into him. His screams were gut-wrenching, but I couldn’t reach him in time. The other dogs rushed in, barking in a frenzy, finally forcing the pit bull off. Its owner grabbed it and disappeared. I held shaking, checking him over, my heart pounding. Thank God he’s okay—but I can’t stop replaying it in my head. The fear in his eyes. The sound of his cries. I wasn’t fast enough. I just couldn’t protect him on time. It’s a very nice park for dogs, unfortunately not every dog is professionally trained, and not every owners well know their dogs behave and temperament, be aware!

The park's location in Haverford makes it easily accessible for residents across Delaware County and beyond. Services Offered

Haverford Reserve Dog Park is designed to offer essential services that cater to the needs of dogs and their owners, focusing on creating a safe, clean, and engaging off-leash environment.

  • Off-Leash Play Areas: The primary service provided is a fully fenced space where dogs can run, play, and interact freely without the constraints of a leash. This freedom is crucial for their physical exercise, mental well-being, and proper socialization with other canines.

  • Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: A significant and highly valued service is the provision of distinct, fenced-off areas for smaller dogs and larger dogs. This separation helps ensure safer play, as smaller or more timid dogs can enjoy their space without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous playmates. This thoughtful design caters to the safety and comfort of all canine visitors.

  • Doggy Water Fountain: Keeping dogs hydrated is essential, especially during active play. The park features a convenient doggy water fountain, typically located near the covered picnic area, ensuring that fresh water is available for thirsty pups. This amenity is particularly useful if owners forget to bring their own water.

  • Waste Stations: Maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility. The park provides pickup bags and waste receptacles, encouraging all dog owners to clean up after their pets promptly. This commitment to hygiene helps keep the park pleasant and safe for everyone.

  • Shaded Seating Areas: For the comfort of human companions, the park offers shaded seating areas, including benches and a covered picnic area. This allows owners to relax and observe their dogs play, providing relief from the sun or light rain.

  • Agility Equipment: To enhance the play experience and provide additional mental and physical stimulation, the park is equipped with various obstacles or agility equipment. This allows dogs to engage in more structured play and challenges their agility.

  • Double-Gated Entrance: Safety is paramount. The park features a double-gated entrance, which helps prevent dogs from accidentally escaping the fenced area when others are entering or exiting.

Features / Highlights

Haverford Reserve Dog Park boasts several key features that contribute to its popularity and make it a highlight for dog owners in the Pennsylvania region.

  • Spacious and Fully Fenced: The park offers a generous amount of open, fenced space, providing ample room for dogs to run at full speed and engage in vigorous play. The complete fencing ensures a secure environment, giving owners peace of mind while their dogs enjoy off-leash freedom.

  • Dedicated Small Dog Section: A critical highlight is the separate, fenced area specifically for smaller dogs. This design choice is highly appreciated by owners of small breeds or puppies, offering a safe haven where they can play without potential intimidation or injury from larger dogs.

  • Reliable Water Source: The presence of a doggy water fountain is a significant amenity, particularly on warm days. This ensures that dogs stay hydrated during their active playtime, a convenience often overlooked at other dog parks.

  • Shaded Picnic Area: A covered picnic area provides a comfortable retreat for owners, offering shade and seating. This allows for longer, more relaxed visits, especially during sunny or lightly rainy weather, enhancing the overall experience for the human visitors.

  • Agility Obstacles: The inclusion of various obstacles and agility equipment adds a fun and engaging dimension to the park. It encourages dogs to be more active and provides opportunities for training and mental stimulation beyond just running.

  • Convenient Parking and Accessibility: With plenty of parking available and its wheelchair accessibility, the park is designed for ease of use by all community members. Its location within a larger community park also means access to restrooms and other public facilities.

  • Adjacency to Walking Trails and Playground: Being part of the Haverford Reserve Community Park means visitors can combine a dog park visit with other recreational activities. The nearby walking trails offer additional exercise opportunities (on-leash), and Freedom Playground is a bonus for families with children, making it a comprehensive outing destination.

While the park is generally well-regarded, some visitors have noted that grassy areas can become overgrown or uneven due to digging, emphasizing the importance of ongoing maintenance and owner attentiveness. Responsible dog ownership, including being aware of your dog's temperament and supervising interactions closely, is always encouraged to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public amenity within the Haverford Reserve Community Park, Haverford Reserve Dog Park generally does not offer traditional commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. There are no coupons, discounts, or loyalty programs associated with its use, as it is a free and open resource for the community.

However, the ongoing "special offer" to the residents of Pennsylvania, particularly those in and around Haverford, is the consistent provision of a well-maintained, free-to-use facility for their dogs. The investment in features like separate large and small dog areas, a water fountain, shaded seating, and agility equipment represents a continuous commitment by the local community to enhance the quality of life for its pet-owning population.

My dog loves it here. Nice wide open space, plenty of room to run. Doggy water fountain off in the corner behind the covered picnic area so don't miss that if you forgot to bring water. Other owners were very nice and attentive to their dogs. They have a separate area that is fenced off for smaller dogs as well. Plenty of parking and a walking trail right next to it. Don't forget about freedom playground as well if you have any kids.

We love coming to this dog park, we drive out of our way to come here for the large dog side rather than the one within walking distance of us because it is so well-maintained. There are plenty of grassy areas here and a good hard surface for the dogs to run around on. Lots of shaded areas and areas out in the open for dogs who may want to cool off some. There is always a good amount of dogs here, anywhere from 5 to 15 is what we have experienced. Double gated entrance into both sides of the dog park (a must) and water is turned on during spring and summer months. Owners need to be sure to bring their own water if coming when it's cold out. They have the water turned off then to prevent the pipes from freezing and bursting. The size of the dog park is great, tons of room for dogs and owners to run and around and space out as preferred. Owners are all very attentive to their dogs and have not had any experiences with aggressive dogs over the years that we have come here. The fence height is perfect. I want to say it's about 6 feet tall which prevents big dogs from being able to jump over the fence. A bonus to bringing your dog here is all of the trails spread throughout Haverford Reserve that you can take your dog on either after or before the dog park. We prefer to hit the trails for about an hour to an hour and a half after an hour at the dog park as a cool down period where we are still getting exercise in. Dogs are supposed to be on a leash when on the trails. I highly recommend this dog park to others!

I take my furry life partner here at least once a week. Just a great place to let him run off some energy and get socialized. It's always clean and well-maintained. The other owners and pets are, for the most part, friendly, though the occasional aggressive dog will show up. I think I've only had one "bad" experience with that, but it wasn't enough to keep me away. Right next to the two enclosed dog areas is a nice little walking trail so you can get some exercise too!

They need to maintain this place it’s Great for a dog to runoff his leash. But the grounds are in terrible shape. The grass is way overgrown there’s dog poop everywhere it smells, but I think if you’re groomed the grounds it wouldn’t smell so bad it’s a shame has a lot of potential and I do like going there.
