This dog park is really well set up, with separate areas for large and small dogs, which I really appreciate. Every time we visit, the atmosphere is great — it’s generally clean, and the dog owners here are very responsible and respectful. It’s a safe and happy place for the dogs to play. The only thing that could make it even better would be a water spigot or fountain for small dogs. Other than that, we love coming here!

Situated in the northern part of Columbus, this park is easily accessible for residents from various neighborhoods within the city and surrounding Central Ohio communities. Its location, jointly managed by the cities of Worthington and Columbus, makes it a valuable resource for a wide catchment area.

The park is well-equipped with a paved parking lot, ensuring that visitors can find ample space for their vehicles, which is a significant convenience for dog owners juggling leashes, toys, and other supplies. Services Offered

  • Dedicated Large Dog Area: Godown Park features a spacious, securely fenced area designed specifically for large dog breeds. This expansive section, reportedly around four-and-a-half acres, provides ample room for bigger dogs to run at full speed, play vigorously, and socialize without feeling restricted.
  • Dedicated Small Dog Area: Recognizing the different needs of smaller breeds, the park also offers a separate, well-maintained fenced area for small dogs, typically about one acre. This dedicated space allows smaller pups to play safely and comfortably with dogs of similar size, reducing potential intimidation or accidental injuries from larger, more boisterous canines.
  • Dog Water Fountains/Spigots: Hydration is essential for active dogs, especially during warmer Ohio months. Godown Park provides dog water fountains or spigots, ensuring that pups can quench their thirst after energetic play. While a personal bowl is always a good idea for hygiene, the availability of water is a highly appreciated amenity.
  • Ample Seating and Shade: For the comfort of human companions, the park is equipped with plenty of benches and natural shade from mature trees. These shaded areas offer a welcome respite from the sun, allowing owners to relax and comfortably observe their dogs playing.
  • Waste Stations with Bags: To promote cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, Godown Park provides waste stations stocked with complimentary dog poop bags and trash bins throughout the park. This makes it easy for owners to clean up after their pets, contributing significantly to the park's well-maintained and pleasant environment.
  • Agility Equipment: Some reports indicate that the park includes basic agility equipment, providing an extra layer of engagement and entertainment for dogs that enjoy challenges and training.

Features / Highlights

  • Spacious 10-Acre Dog Park: Godown Park boasts an impressive 10-acre expanse primarily dedicated to the dog park, providing extensive green space for dogs to run, play, and explore. This vastness contributes to a less crowded feel, even during busy times.

The presence of some wooded sections and varying terrain, including gentle hills and winding paths, adds to the natural appeal and provides diverse stimulation for dogs.

  • Well-Maintained Fencing and Pathways: The fenced play areas are well-maintained, providing a secure off-leash environment. Paved pathways winding through the park allow for easy strolling and access to different areas.
  • Co-Ownership by Columbus and Worthington: The park's joint management by the cities of Worthington and Columbus underscores its commitment to serving a wider community and potentially ensures robust maintenance efforts.

Beautiful place to go to! Plenty of seating, shade and large areas for the dogs to run. Theres a small area and a large area. Both sides are very nice. The people are great and the other dogs are too. The only reason that this isn’t getting 5 stars is because THERE ARE TICKS EVERYWHERE. Literally every time we come home there is anywhere from 1-5 ticks on me and my dogs. My dogs are on prevention and I even spray myself and my dogs with appropriate repellent. Does absolutely nothing. I’m tired of giving my dogs tick baths so unfortunately will have to go elsewhere. If you can stand ticks and don’t mind bathing your dog once you come home then this place is perfect. Otherwise comer be warned.

Really nice area to walk around. If you are walking through the paths you share the same trails as bikers. The paths travel both directions so just be cautious, the trails are thinner and it seems to be very active. I found myself moving off the path more often than not to allow for cyclists to pass. I went in early spring when it was still pretty barren but I bet it's beautiful in the later spring / summer!!

This is such a great dog park. Sectioned off between large (over 25lb} and small dogs. No night lights or running water, at least not that I've seen.

I typically take my dogs to the small dog park. Usually there are regulars you see and most people and dogs are very friendly. There’s water provided inside with bowls and water jugs and a water hose on the left side outside the fenced areas that can be used. If you’re desperate, there is a port-a-potty that can be used. The big dog portion is very nice with lots of trees and different types of areas in shade or sun. There’s several benches to sit on within both the small and big dog areas. There is a sign with restrictions such as no food or treats can be brought in or young kids but some people don’t abide by it sadly. I saw a review about no toys but I often see dogs playing with balls, some that are even left in the park, and it hasn’t caused any problems in the small dog park at least. This is common with most dog parks around so I don’t think it’s a problem. Just be aware if your dog can be aggressive because of those things. Overall I would definitely recommend this as a friendly community dog park.
