My dogs love this park! I appreciate that the park offers 2 dog parks with places to sit and has shade. The big dog side is almost always busy. Though it stays muddy, bring towels and prepare accordingly. The small dog side was revamped, and I no longer have issues with the mud. My dogs love to run and bark. The trails nearby are also beautiful to walk / ride your bike. I appreciate they have porty potties.

Heritage Trail Park is conveniently located at 7262 Hayden Run Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026, USA. Its strategic position just outside of downtown Hilliard makes it easily accessible for residents across Hilliard and surrounding areas in Franklin County and beyond. The park is a joint project between the City of Hilliard and Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, ensuring a well-maintained and professionally managed facility.
The park is situated at the trailhead of the popular Heritage Rail Trail, providing an added benefit for those who enjoy combining off-leash play with leashed walks. Ample parking is available directly at the park entrance, making it simple and stress-free to get your dogs from the car to the play areas. This ease of access contributes significantly to its popularity among local dog owners.
Heritage Trail Park, as a public dog park, focuses on providing a rich array of amenities rather than traditional paid services. These offerings are designed to enhance the experience for both dogs and their owners, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable visit:
- Separate Off-Leash Areas: The park features two distinct, fully fenced sections: one specifically for large dogs and another for smaller breeds. This separation is crucial for the safety and comfort of all dogs, allowing them to play with companions of similar size and energy levels. The large dog side is approximately 4 acres.
- Doggie Splash Pad: A unique and highly popular feature, the park boasts a doggie splash pad, providing a fantastic way for dogs to cool off, play in the water, and hydrate, especially during warmer Ohio months. This is a significant draw for many water-loving pups.
- Agility Equipment: Both the large and small dog areas are equipped with various agility course elements, such as tunnels, ramps, and jumps. These features offer dogs opportunities for exercise, mental stimulation, and fun challenges.
- Shaded Seating Areas: Throughout both dog park sections, you'll find places to sit, including benches and shaded areas, allowing owners to relax comfortably while supervising their pets.
- Port-a-Potties/Restroom Facilities: For the convenience of human visitors, portable restroom facilities are available on-site.
- Waste Stations: To encourage a clean environment, waste stations with complimentary dog waste bags are strategically placed throughout the park, making it easy for owners to clean up after their pets.
- Access to Multi-Use Trails: Immediately adjacent to the dog park is the Heritage Rail Trail, a paved 6.1-mile multi-purpose trail where leashed dogs are welcome. This allows for extended walks or bike rides before or after off-leash play.
- Water Access for Dogs: In addition to the splash pad, there are often water options available, such as small kiddie pools (especially in the small dog area) and access to hoses for cleaning off muddy paws.
Heritage Trail Park is distinguished by several key features that make it a standout dog park in the Ohio region:
- Innovative Doggie Splash Pad: This isn't a common feature at every dog park, and it provides a unique and exciting play experience for dogs, particularly on hot days. It's often cited as a favorite by visitors.
- Size and Space: With a significant four-acre off-leash area for large dogs, and a dedicated, recently revamped section for small dogs, the park offers ample room for dogs to run, play, and explore without feeling overcrowded.
- Variety of Play Options: Between the open grassy areas for running, the agility equipment for challenges, and the splash pad for water fun, dogs have a diverse range of activities to engage in, keeping them entertained and well-exercised.
- Integration with Heritage Rail Trail: The seamless connection to the Heritage Rail Trail allows for a comprehensive outdoor experience, catering to both off-leash and on-leash activities for your dog, depending on their needs and your plans for the day.
- Shade and Seating: The presence of shaded areas and ample seating is a highly appreciated feature for owners, providing comfort during their time at the park.
- Commitment to Cleanliness: Despite heavy usage, the park is generally well-maintained, with waste stations regularly serviced and efforts made to manage muddy areas, particularly in the small dog section after its revamp.
- Community Atmosphere: Many visitors note the friendly community of dog owners who frequent the park, making it a pleasant place for both dogs and humans to socialize.
As a public park operated jointly by the City of Hilliard and the Metro Parks system, Heritage Trail Park primarily offers free access to its facilities. Therefore, it does not typically run commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional sense, such as discounts or membership programs. However, the City of Hilliard Parks and Recreation Department and the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks often host free community events, educational programs, or seasonal activities that may be dog-friendly or of interest to pet owners. We highly recommend checking their official websites or social media channels for announcements about any upcoming events that might align with your interests.

Heritage Trail Park is an outstanding choice for dog owners residing in Hilliard and the wider Central Ohio area, offering a multifaceted and highly suitable environment for canine recreation. Its appeal to locals is rooted in its thoughtful design, comprehensive amenities, and its role as a vital community resource.
The park's dual-area setup for large and small dogs is a significant advantage, ensuring that pups of all sizes can play safely and confidently. Feb 09, 2025 · Leslie ScottThe park is very nice and my puppy loves to be there. Some dog owners do not keep their aggressive dogs on leash and on 3/25/2024 around 5:30 pm - 5:45 pm my puppy had been attacked by two others and the owner did not do anything to stop the dogs. The owner did not even said sorry about that. Other owners said that the owner is a regular visitor and witnessed attacks from the same dogs. My puppy is very shocked and scared at this moment and thanks God no opened wounds. To the owner - Please keep your aggressive dogs on leash!!!! The pictures shows the owner and the dogs attacked my puppy.
Mar 26, 2024 · Maryiana TodorovaGreat place to go especially if it's wet out! Plenty of benches and shelter. Small kiddie pools for the dogs with several water options on both sides. My poodle enjoys the agility course items.
Oct 10, 2023 · Christina VincentI haven’t been on the trails yet, but I definitely will be going. I took my puppy to the dog park and he had a good ole time with the other dogs. It was clean and had a lot of space and both the small dog area and the large dog area was open.
Apr 15, 2025 · Ms. ReneeWow this dog park is huge! Lots of space for small dogs and big dogs to run separately. One thing to note is that there's no fountain or hose available that I could see for drinking or rinsing off muddy dogs. And the place was muuuuuuddy. Hopefully it'll dry up in the summer when the grass begins to grow.
