I’m usually up in Novato but a last minute appointment brought me to San Mateo. This is a great large area for dogs and humans. Great view of the bay. Hiking trails and cool art pieces. There is also a large small dog area. One downside for me is that the only water is located outside of the fenced area and the pressure was low to the point the bowl does not fill. Note to bring my own water and bowl. Friendly dogs

Welcome to Dog Park | Seal Point Harbor
For dog owners residing in California, discovering an ideal spot where your beloved canine can truly thrive is a significant find. The Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor in San Mateo stands out as a premier destination, offering much more than just an off-leash area. Nestled along the picturesque San Francisco Bay, this park provides a dynamic and expansive environment where dogs can exercise, socialize, and explore. It’s a place where the fresh bay breeze invigorates both pets and their people, creating memorable outings. Beyond the dedicated dog park, Seal Point Harbor seamlessly integrates into a larger recreational area, providing diverse activities for humans, including scenic hiking trails and public art installations, making it a comprehensive destination for the entire family, canine members included.
The Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor is conveniently located at 1775-1847 J Hart Clinton Dr, San Mateo, CA 94401, USA. This address places it squarely within the expansive Seal Point Park, a prominent recreational area known for its bay views and extensive trails. Its proximity to Highway 101 ensures excellent accessibility for residents throughout San Mateo and wider Bay Area communities, making it a straightforward drive for many. The park’s location along the bayfront provides not only a beautiful backdrop but also contributes to a sense of openness and tranquility often sought after in urban settings.
Ample public parking is a notable benefit, typically available throughout the Seal Point Park area, which alleviates the common stress of finding a spot, particularly during peak hours. The layout of the park and its surrounding trails are designed for ease of navigation, allowing visitors to seamlessly transition from parking to the off-leash area, or to explore the numerous walking and hiking paths available within the broader park. For those seeking additional physical activity, the presence of various trails and even a "stairway to tread upon for additional physicality," as noted by a reviewer, highlights the integrated recreational opportunities at this location.
Spacious Off-Leash Dog Area: The primary service is a generously sized, fenced area specifically designated for dogs to run, play, and socialize freely without the constraint of a leash. This expansive space allows for vigorous exercise and natural canine interactions.
Dedicated Small Dog Area: Recognizing the diverse needs of canine visitors, the park features a separate, large area specifically for smaller dogs. This ensures a safer and more comfortable environment for less assertive or more delicate breeds, allowing them to play among peers of similar size.
Access to Hiking Trails: While the main dog park is off-leash, the broader Seal Point Park offers numerous multi-use trails where dogs are welcome on-leash. This provides opportunities for longer walks and varied terrain, enhancing the overall outdoor experience for both dogs and owners.
Public Restrooms: The park facilities include readily available public restrooms, which is a significant convenience for visitors spending extended periods at the park or exploring the trails.
Public Parking: Ample parking is provided, making the park easily accessible by car. This ensures a hassle-free arrival and departure for visitors.
Waste Receptacles: To encourage cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, waste bins are placed throughout the dog park area, facilitating easy disposal of pet waste.
Large Off-Leash Area: As highlighted by a delighted visitor, this is a "great large area for dogs and humans." The sheer size of the off-leash section allows for ample running, playing, and group activities, making it ideal for energetic dogs.
Scenic Bay Views: The park boasts "great view of the bay," offering a picturesque backdrop for dog walks and playtime. The refreshing bay breeze adds to the pleasant atmosphere, making it enjoyable for both pets and their owners.
Integrated with Hiking Trails: Beyond the fenced dog park, Seal Point Park offers extensive "nice trails" for on-leash dog walking, including a "stairway to tread upon for additional physicality." This provides diverse exercise opportunities and a change of scenery.
Dedicated Small Dog Area: A significant highlight is the "large small dog area," providing a safe and comfortable space for smaller or more timid dogs to play without being overwhelmed by larger breeds. This thoughtful separation caters to a wider range of canine visitors.
Public Art Pieces: The presence of "cool art pieces" throughout the broader park adds an aesthetic dimension to your visit, offering visual interest beyond the natural landscape.
Public Amenities: The availability of "public restrooms, and public parking" enhances the convenience for visitors, ensuring a more comfortable and stress-free outing.
Friendly Community: Reviewers often note the presence of "Friendly dogs," indicating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for canine socialization.
As a public park facility managed by the City of San Mateo, the Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor typically does not offer commercial promotions, discounts, or special offers in the traditional retail sense. Access to the park and its off-leash areas is generally free for all residents and visitors.
The inherent "promotion" of this dog park lies in its exceptional value as a community resource. It consistently provides a well-maintained, expansive, and scenic environment for dog exercise and socialization without any direct cost to users.
While there are no loyalty programs or coupons, interested individuals should periodically check the official City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department website or local community event calendars. Public parks sometimes host free, pet-related community events, workshops on responsible pet ownership, or even dog-friendly festivals. These types of events would be the closest equivalent to a special offering, providing added value and opportunities for engagement. However, these would be city-sponsored initiatives rather than park-specific promotions.
For general inquiries, information about park rules, maintenance schedules, or any specific concerns regarding the Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor, the primary point of contact would be the City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees the management of Seal Point Park.

The Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor is an outstanding destination for dog owners throughout California, particularly those residing in or near San Mateo, due to its unique combination of features that cater exceptionally well to local needs and preferences.
Firstly, its expansive size and diverse offerings truly set it apart. As one visitor from Novato noted, this is a "great large area for dogs and humans." The generous off-leash space allows dogs to run, play, and socialize extensively, which is vital for their physical and mental well-being. Coupled with the scenic "great view of the bay" and the accessibility of "hiking trails," it transforms a simple dog park visit into a comprehensive outdoor adventure for both pets and their owners. This multi-faceted environment means locals don't have to choose between a dog park and a nature walk; they get both in one convenient location.
The presence of a "large small dog area" is another critical feature that makes this park highly suitable for locals. This thoughtful separation ensures that dogs of all sizes and temperaments can enjoy the park safely and comfortably. It addresses a common concern among owners of smaller breeds, providing peace of mind and promoting positive interactions among all canine visitors.
While a minor downside of the water being outside the fenced area with low pressure was noted by one reviewer, the overall benefits vastly outweigh this small inconvenience. The availability of "public restrooms, and public parking" further enhances the user experience, making longer visits more comfortable.
Ultimately, the Dog Park at Seal Point Harbor is more than just an off-leash zone; it's a community hub nestled in a beautiful natural setting. It provides unparalleled opportunities for canine exercise and socialization, while simultaneously offering recreational benefits for their human companions. For California locals, particularly those in the Bay Area, this park represents an ideal blend of accessibility, amenities, and natural beauty, making it a highly valued and frequently visited destination for a truly enriching experience with their beloved dogs.

May 02, 2025 · Manuel MoralesNice trails, a stairway to tread upon for additional physicality, public restrooms, and public parking. Dogs on a leash for the most part, but there is a dog area for your fur babies to run free and socialize.
Jan 12, 2025 · Sheryl HennThis is a great dog park; the are two separated areas: one for little dogs, and another for for large dogs. The park provides water and plastic bags. Parking is free and easily available. The park has restrooms. I highly recommend it.
Aug 27, 2024 · Murillo PontualThis is a very large space for dogs to run around! There are areas for the dogs to drink water benches to sit on, and a small dog area where you can keep your little pups in a more protected space. It's a like-it spot for me. I wish there was more grass. Maybe they will make this improvement in the future 😌
Nov 15, 2023 · Cheyenne ShineOnGreat spacious dog park! I went here for a golden retriever meetup and my pups loved it! There’s a nice hiking area around and a park nearby for children too. Great views of the planes too! Best of all, parking is free! It can get a bit busy though.
