So very disappointed that a once public amenity is now membership only. And the park’s website is non-functional to boot, so how one would become a member, if they were willing to pay a fee for access to a fenced-in area on PUBLIC LAND, will remain a mystery. Luckily, this frustrating trip led me to Hollywood Dog Park, only a couple of miles away, that’s better organized, includes all of the amenities of the other park, and is FREE. Go there instead.

Welcome to College Park Dog Park (Members Only)
For dedicated dog owners across Maryland, particularly those residing in and around College Park, finding a secure and engaging space for their beloved canine companions is a top priority. The College Park Dog Park (Members Only) offers a unique approach to providing such an environment, focusing on a community-driven, membership-based model to ensure a well-maintained and regulated experience for all users. While some public dog parks are open to all, this particular park aims to foster a consistent and responsible community of dog owners.
This park provides a dedicated off-leash area where registered dogs can run, play, and socialize in a controlled setting. It’s designed for those Maryland residents who value a structured environment, where membership helps to ensure a higher level of user accountability and potentially better upkeep. For those willing to join its community, College Park Dog Park offers a valuable resource for canine exercise and socialization.
The College Park Dog Park is located in College Park, MD 20740, USA. While the precise street address provided is general (College Park, MD 20740), it is understood to be a part of the local park system within the city. For those unfamiliar with the area, it's advisable to seek out more precise directions or the specific entry point upon becoming a member, as access is restricted.
Accessibility to the park is primarily for its members. As a "Members Only" facility, entry typically requires a gate code, which is provided upon successful membership application. This system helps regulate usage and ensures that only registered dogs and their owners are present. For Maryland residents considering this park, it's important to understand that a spontaneous visit might not be possible without prior membership arrangements. However, its location within College Park means it's generally well-situated for those living in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, allowing for relatively convenient travel once membership is secured. Free parking is typically available nearby for members.
The College Park Dog Park (Members Only) offers a range of services and facilities tailored to its members, designed to create a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs and their owners.
Exclusive Off-Leash Play Area: The core service is a fully fenced, secure off-leash area, allowing dogs to run and play freely without the need for a leash once inside the designated space. This exclusivity helps manage the population and potentially reduce overcrowding.
Membership-Based Access: Access to the park is restricted to members who have registered their dogs and paid an annual fee. This model contributes to a more controlled environment.
Managed Community: The membership structure fosters a community of responsible dog owners, with rules in place to encourage proper behavior and ensure a positive experience for all.
Dog Toy Allowance: Unlike some parks that prohibit outside toys, the College Park Dog Park allows dog toys, enabling interactive play between dogs and their owners, and among the dogs themselves.
Separate Areas for Dogs (Likely): While not explicitly detailed in all public snippets, many well-organized dog parks, especially those with a membership model, often feature separate areas for large and small dogs. This helps ensure safety and comfort for all sizes and play styles.
Online Membership Management: The membership process, including application and renewal, is managed online, providing a convenient way for prospective and current members to handle their registration.
Communication Channels for Members: Members gain access to a members-only website section for park access instructions (like the gate code) and may have the option to join community communication platforms, such as a WhatsApp Group, for real-time meet-up coordination.
Well-Regulated Environment: With a set of rules and requirements (e.g., current vaccinations, county tags, spay/neuter requirement for new dogs, age restrictions for puppies), the park aims to maintain a healthy and safe setting.
The College Park Dog Park (Members Only) distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights, emphasizing its commitment to a quality experience for its registered users.
Secure Fenced-In Area: The park boasts a fully fenced and spacious off-leash area. This security is paramount for dog owners, providing peace of mind as their pets explore and socialize freely.
Open Field Play Space: The park features an "open field" design, providing ample room for dogs to run at full speed, chase balls, and engage in vigorous play. This open layout is beneficial for high-energy breeds.
Emphasis on Dog Socialization: Due to its membership model and the self-selecting nature of its users, the park aims to provide an environment where dogs are generally well-socialized, contributing to positive interactions.
Community Involvement: The park is managed by the College Park Dog Park Association, often made up of passionate volunteers who are committed to maintaining an ideal dog park setting and fostering a sense of community among members.
Cleanliness and Maintenance Focus: While not explicitly detailed in reviews about immediate amenities like poop bags at every corner (it is generally implied members bring their own), the membership model often correlates with better collective upkeep and cleanliness due to shared responsibility and rules.
Shade Structures and Seating (Potential): While not explicitly confirmed in all general descriptions, many well-designed dog parks, especially those with a membership focus, often incorporate shade structures and seating areas for human comfort, allowing owners to supervise their dogs comfortably.
Agility Equipment (Potential): Some reports about dog parks named "College Park Dog Park" in other locations mention agility equipment. While not confirmed for this specific Maryland location through the provided reviews, a well-supported membership park might offer such features.
As a "Members Only" facility, the College Park Dog Park does not engage in typical commercial promotions or special offers in the way a retail business might. Its "offer" is the exclusive access to a well-maintained and regulated dog park environment.
However, the primary "special offer" is the annual membership fee structure. For example, current information indicates that the annual membership fee is $30 for the first dog in a household, with an additional $10 for each subsequent dog. This tiered pricing offers a cost-effective solution for households with multiple dogs.
Prospective members may also be offered a preliminary visit to the park to evaluate their dog's play style and familiarize themselves with the environment before committing to a membership. This "try before you buy" opportunity, while not a discount, is a valuable offering for ensuring compatibility. For specific details on membership fees, requirements, and any current enrollment incentives, interested Maryland residents should refer directly to the College Park Dog Park Association's official website.

For Maryland locals, particularly those in College Park and neighboring areas of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, the College Park Dog Park (Members Only) offers a distinct and potentially highly beneficial experience. While the membership requirement might initially seem like a barrier, it's precisely this model that can lead to a more consistently managed and higher-quality dog park environment. For those who prioritize safety, consistent maintenance, and a community of responsible dog owners, the annual fee is a modest investment for peace of mind.
The regulated access via a gate code ensures that only vetted, vaccinated, and registered dogs are using the facility, which can significantly reduce concerns about aggressive behavior or unvaccinated animals. The explicit allowance of dog toys also enhances playtime, providing more interactive opportunities for pets. While reviews suggest some historical issues with the website or initial difficulty in joining, the fact that an active Dog Park Association exists and manages the process online indicates a dedicated group committed to its operation. For Maryland dog owners who are looking for a reliable, clean, and community-oriented off-leash park where they can develop consistent play routines for their dogs with familiar faces, the College Park Dog Park (Members Only) represents a valuable, long-term solution. It's a place where the collective commitment of its members ensures a superior experience for all, making it a truly suitable choice for locals seeking a premium dog park environment.

Apr 29, 2024 · Rebecca TheimI attempted to become a member or have a day pass for my poodle and I found this to be oddly difficult. The website seemed to not work and the gate needed a code to enter. This is probably why there was no dogs at the park. We will keep trying for a good dog park in the area since moving from dc with a plethora of great dog parks for ALL to enjoy!
Jan 05, 2025 · Faben HenokVery disappointing came here on vacation for a couple days looked up parks and saw the dog park and took my puppy here you can't get in you have to be a member no one's around to find out how to be a member so yeah for being a dog park is very disappointing. Not to mention the place is trashed there's trash everywhere and of course dogs get into everything and it just needs cleaned up especially when people have to pay for it
May 12, 2019 · Bodine KellyI understand most people’s frustration come from not knowing this is a membership park. When they get here, they can’t come in. I was too a while ago when I just moved here. But now I’ve come to love it. You will know almost every owner & their dogs, so your dog can be better matched with a play bud. Owners organize play dates. There’s water in summer and toys and balls. Un-neutered dogs not allowed which is a big bonus point. And they have separate areas for big and small dogs, even people with dog selective dogs can come to the park. If you are in the community I’m sure you will love it!
Aug 29, 2023 · Carmen ChengI came by College Park for a bite with my Puppy and wanted to take him to a nearby dog park and this park was closest. It was a total waste of time coming here and finding out it that it was a membership only dog park. When searched in Google, it did not say anything about having to have membership. I'm sure many people come by here when they are out and around with their dogs; only to find they can't get in without a membership and code. It should have stated "membership only dog park" when being searched on Google or any other app. This would help non-member dog owners from any inconveniences into coming here.
