Big enuf park for dogs to run around and water station for dog bowls and adult drinking and during hot months they break out baby wading pools to fill for dogs to splash in. Only one “toy” for dogs and that’s a giant concrete pipe about 4.5 feet in diameter for dogs to run thru but that’s it. Honestly it looks more like a dog owner social place to chit chat. Dog socializing. Not really playing anything by “chase.”

Welcome to Ash Avenue Dog Park

For dog owners throughout Oregon, and particularly those residing in the thriving Portland metropolitan area, including the charming city of Tigard, finding a safe, engaging, and welcoming space for our canine companions to enjoy off-leash freedom is a top priority. In this regard, Ash Avenue Dog Park stands out as a true gem, offering a dedicated and well-equipped environment for dogs to play, exercise, and socialize. This park is more than just a place for pups to run; it's a vital community hub where two-legged and four-legged friends connect.

Ash Avenue Dog Park, nestled just off the main thoroughfare of historic downtown Tigard, is a testament to the city's commitment to its pet-owning residents. It provides a securely fenced area, giving owners peace of mind while their dogs interact and burn off energy. What truly sets this park apart, as noted by numerous local users, is its friendly atmosphere and thoughtful amenities, including a convenient water station and even seasonal wading pools for those hot Oregon days. While it might be described as a "tiny little bark chip dog park" by some, its well-maintained surface, communal spirit, and strategic location make it an indispensable resource for Tigard's dog lovers, fostering both canine happiness and human connections within this vibrant local community.

Ash Avenue Dog Park is conveniently located at 12770 SW Ash Ave, Tigard, OR 97223, USA. This places it just off the main drag of historic downtown Tigard, making it exceptionally accessible for residents within the city and surrounding Washington County areas.

The park's location offers easy access for those traveling by car, with street parking generally available in the vicinity. Being "just off the main drag" means it's straightforward to navigate to, even for first-time visitors. For those who prefer to walk or bike, its proximity to historic downtown Tigard means it's integrated into existing pedestrian-friendly areas. Additionally, its close proximity to Fanno Creek Park provides the opportunity for a scenic leashed walk before or after an off-leash play session, offering a perfect blend of activities. While specific public transit routes that directly serve the park's immediate vicinity would depend on current TriMet schedules, Tigard's overall public transportation network makes many areas of the city accessible. The fact that it's "fully fenced" with a "double gated entry" enhances its accessibility by providing a secure and controlled environment for dogs to enter and exit, minimizing escape risks and making it a safe choice for a wide range of dogs and owners. This convenient and central location within Tigard solidifies Ash Avenue Dog Park as a highly practical and enjoyable destination for local dog owners.

Ash Avenue Dog Park offers a thoughtful array of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable, safe, and engaging experience for both dogs and their human companions.

  • Fully Fenced Dog Park: A crucial service is the securely fenced enclosure, providing a safe environment for dogs to play off-leash without the concern of them wandering away. This "double gated entry" system further enhances security.
  • Wood Fiber Play Surface: The park features a "bark chip" or wood fiber play surface. This material provides better traction for running dogs, helps with drainage, and contributes to a more sanitary environment by reducing mud and dust.
  • Water Station for Dogs and Humans: A dedicated water station is available, providing fresh drinking water for both dogs (often with dog-bowl spouts) and adults, ensuring hydration during playtime, especially on warm days.
  • Seasonal Wading Pools: During hot months, the park often provides "baby wading pools to fill for dogs to splash in." This is a highly valued seasonal amenity, offering a fun way for dogs to cool down and engage in water play.
  • Benches and Seating: Comfortable seating options, including benches, are available for dog owners to relax and supervise their pets, fostering a social atmosphere.
  • Paw-Washing Station: A convenient paw-washing station is available for a quick clean-up after a fun-filled visit, helping to keep cars and homes cleaner.
  • Concrete Pipe "Toy": The park includes a unique "giant concrete pipe about 4.5 feet in diameter for dogs to run thru," offering a simple yet engaging feature for canine exploration.
  • Pet Waste Bags and Receptacles: The city of Tigard provides dog waste bags and garbage cans within its dog parks and along major trails, encouraging responsible pet ownership and maintaining cleanliness.

Ash Avenue Dog Park boasts several distinct features and highlights that make it a cherished spot among Tigard's dog-owning community.

  • Secure and Fenced Environment: The park's fully fenced perimeter with double-gated entrances is a major highlight, offering peace of mind to owners and allowing dogs to play safely off-leash.
  • Effective Drainage and Cleanliness: The "bark chip" or wood fiber surface is praised for its ability to drain well, leading to "very limited to mud and grass." This means dogs are less likely to come home muddy, a significant plus, especially during Oregon's rainy seasons.
  • Hydration Stations for All: The provision of a water station for both dogs (with bowls) and humans is a thoughtful amenity, ensuring everyone stays hydrated.
  • Seasonal Cooling Opportunities: The "baby wading pools" deployed during hot months are a unique and highly appreciated feature, allowing dogs to splash and cool off, adding an extra element of fun.
  • Community and Social Hub: Reviewers consistently note that it's a "dog owner social place to chit chat" and conducive to "dog socializing." This strong community vibe fosters connections among local pet owners.
  • Unique Concrete Pipe Feature: The "giant concrete pipe" serves as a fun and simple agility-like "toy" for dogs to run through, adding a distinct element to the play area.
  • Proximity to Downtown and Fanno Creek Park: Its location near historic downtown Tigard offers convenient access to other local amenities and businesses. The adjacent Fanno Creek Park provides additional opportunities for leashed walks in a picturesque setting.
  • Well-Maintained Facility: Despite its smaller size, the park is described as "well kept," indicating that the City of Tigard Parks & Recreation maintains it diligently.

As a public amenity operated by the City of Tigard Parks & Recreation, Ash Avenue Dog Park does not typically offer specific commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional business sense, as access to the park and its amenities is generally free to the public. Its inherent value lies in providing a consistently available and well-maintained space for canine recreation at no direct cost to users.

However, the City of Tigard and local pet-related non-profit organizations or businesses may occasionally organize community events or initiatives that benefit park users. These could include pet adoption drives, responsible pet ownership workshops, community clean-up days at parks, or even informal dog meet-ups. For example, the City of Tigard has been known to participate in events like a "Halloween Dog Park" celebration, where dogs and their owners can participate in themed activities. These types of events, while not direct "promotions," enhance the park experience and community engagement. To stay informed about any such city-led activities or local pet-related promotions, local Oregon residents are encouraged to regularly check the official City of Tigard Parks & Recreation website, local pet supply stores' community boards, or social media groups dedicated to Tigard dog owners. While specific discounts or deals for individual users are not typical, the park's free access and its role as a vibrant community gathering spot offer ongoing and substantial value to the residents of Tigard.

It's also worth noting that the City of Tigard takes steps to support dog owners by providing dog waste bags and garbage cans within its dog parks and along major trails, which can be seen as an ongoing "promotion" of responsible and convenient pet ownership.

For general inquiries about Ash Avenue Dog Park, or for comprehensive information regarding the City of Tigard's parks and recreation facilities, you can direct your questions to the Tigard Parks & Recreation department. While there isn't a direct line specifically for the dog park, the city's parks department serves as the official resource for park rules, maintenance schedules, and operational details for all city parks.

In a state that highly values outdoor recreation and a city that embraces its pet-friendly identity, this park serves as a crucial and convenient amenity that significantly enhances the quality of life for dog owners and their cherished companions.

For locals, its prime location "just off the main drag of historic downtown Tigard" makes it incredibly accessible, whether by walking from nearby homes or a short drive from other parts of the city. The fact that it is a "fully fenced" dog park with a "double gated entry" provides immense peace of mind for owners, allowing their dogs to play freely and safely without concerns about them venturing off.

The park's thoughtful amenities further highlight its suitability. The bark chip surface provides a clean and well-draining play area, a significant advantage during Oregon's wetter months, preventing muddy paws. A tiny little bark chip dog park just off the main drag of historic downtown Tigard. There was a little pool for Luna to splash in, which she enjoyed immensely. The included pictures & videos speak for themselves

My dogs had fun till a very energetic and slightly aggressive pit bull came to the park and the owners ignored the behavior. My dog was squealing because he came after her so we had to leave. Please dog owners, watch your dogs and play attention to them.

I definitely don't go for the people. But It's nice but every often I deal with chatty cathies . Or someone that uses their dog aggression instead of discipline using it to state their preference in let's say " company". Other Than that it's a pleasant little park in downtown. Lots around and lots of fun.
