We come here frequently for our tarantula feeders but I must say the selection of specimens is amazing! We love just looking around. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. They answer all of our silly questions and even show us things they know we will love but didn’t notice. Amazing all around. Pictures are our most recent purchases from the shop!

got a leopard gecko (leucistic mack snow) from these guys back in december, the staff was very nice and friendly towards me, and helped me pick out my new best friend. every time i call for help/ask a question about my gecko the staff is always very helpful and almost always solves my issues, and all the animals in there look very healthy, and they’re terrarium look very clean and big enough for the animals. would highly recommend this place for beginners pet owners.

Friendly, informed, and clearly passionate about what they do, their customer service is as inviting as a basking rock under a UVB lamp. Now, let’s talk cleanliness. This place is immaculate. No mystery odors. No tragic cricket graveyards in the corners. No moldy water dishes or “Oops, forgot to clean that for a week” vibes. What really blew me away was the attention to detail in each vivarium: multi-layered substrates perfectly curated for humidity control, burrowing behavior, and aesthetic harmony. We're talking loamy gradients, moss that actually looks alive (and not like it crawled out of a 1997 science fair project), and hides placed with architectural intention. You can tell these animals aren’t just kept—they're cared for, and it radiates from every enclosure. And then, there was the snake on display. The label claimed it was a Burmese python × ball python hybrid. Now, while that pairing is technically possible—they’re both in the Python genus and there have been a few verified cases—it’s still incredibly rare. The logistics alone, given the massive size difference between the two species, make successful breeding difficult. When it does happen, it's usually the result of very intentional efforts in controlled settings. So, is it impossible? No. But unless this shop is working with specialty breeders or producing hybrids themselves, it seems more likely that this is a case of misidentification or a morph with unusual patterning. Without documentation or lineage, it’s hard to take that label at face value. Still, it was a gorgeous animal, and the rest of the store is undeniably top-tier. Between the care they show their reptiles, the thoughtful enclosure design, and their genuinely helpful staff, this place sets a high bar. Just maybe approach the hybrid claims with a little healthy skepticism—and then enjoy the rest of what’s clearly a labor of love.

I can't say enough great things about Scales Exotic Reptile Store in Riverton, especially Taylor and Emily. Six Weeks ago, I rescued a Bearded Dragon who was in a very poor state. As a complete novice to caring for Beardies, I was overwhelmed and unsure how to help my new pet thrive. I've always heard great things about scales n tales! I recently purchased my first ball python and while I have done a lot of research, I still have so many questions to ensure my ball python grows correctly and is healthy!
