Has the best selection of plants and cool rocks. They are well educated when it comes to fish and anything scaly. The customer service is amazing as well. Love this family owned business. These fish were bought from Roe and have been doing fabulous. Even if your not in the market to buy things there, it's a cool place to peek into. Edit: went in and still greeted like family. I love this place. Go take a peek and have some good conversations too :) Edited again: their set up is always so beautiful, and their fish so healthy 🫶

Welcome to Roe Aquarium & Pet Co

Roe Aquarium & Pet Co, situated at 4422 11th St, Rock Island, IL 61201, USA, is a dedicated pet store that appears to specialize in aquatic life and possibly other scaled pets, positioning itself as a valuable resource within the 'Pet Store Near Me' category for local enthusiasts. The store can be contacted at (309) 788-7153.

The environment of Roe Aquarium & Pet Co is described by some customers as inviting and visually appealing, particularly for its aquatic displays. Reviews suggest a "cool place to peek into," indicating that even those not in the market to buy can find it an engaging space to explore. One customer specifically praises, "their set up is always so beautiful," which points to a well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of tanks and displays. This commitment to visual appeal can significantly enhance the shopping experience, making it more enjoyable for visitors. The emphasis on "the best selection of plants and cool rocks" further suggests a focus on creating natural and attractive aquatic environments, which contributes to the overall ambiance of the store. For an aquarium enthusiast, a visually stunning and well-maintained display is often a testament to the store's knowledge and care. The "family owned business" aspect can also contribute to a warmer, more personal atmosphere, making customers feel more at home and part of a community. However, it's also important to acknowledge that customer perception of the environment can be subjective, and a recent review indicates a shift in the perceived atmosphere, noting staff becoming "rude, and short tempered," which can make the environment feel "a little off putting from a customer standpoint." This suggests that while the physical setup may remain beautiful, the human element can significantly impact the overall customer experience and the perceived welcoming nature of the environment.

The services offered by Roe Aquarium & Pet Co primarily cater to the needs of aquatic pet owners, and likely extend to other scaled animals. Based on the reviews, key services and goods for sale include:

  • Live Aquatic Animals: The store provides a selection of fish, with customers noting the health of the fish purchased from Roe ("These fish were bought from Roe and have been doing fabulous"). This indicates a focus on sourcing and maintaining healthy livestock.
  • Aquatic Plants: A "best selection of plants" is specifically highlighted, suggesting a strong inventory of live aquarium plants, which are crucial for creating natural habitats and maintaining water quality in aquariums.
  • Aquarium Decor and Substrate: The mention of "cool rocks" indicates that the store offers various decorative elements for aquariums, allowing customers to personalize their tank setups.
  • Dry Goods and Equipment: While not explicitly detailed, a pet store specializing in aquatics would offer a range of dry goods such as fish food, filters, heaters, lighting systems, water conditioners, test kits, and other essential aquarium equipment. The customer who "always made a point to buy my setup and tanks from Roe" implies a comprehensive selection of these items.
  • Expert Advice and Education: A significant service feature is the staff's knowledge. Customers describe them as "well educated when it comes to fish and anything scaly." This expert advice is invaluable for both beginners and experienced hobbyists, helping them make informed decisions about pet care, tank setup, and problem-solving. This includes guidance on fish health, water parameters, and compatibility of different species.
  • Customer Service and Community Engagement: The positive reviews emphasize "amazing customer service" and being "greeted like family," with opportunities for "good conversations." This suggests a commitment to building relationships with customers and fostering a sense of community around the shared interest in pets.

The features that set Roe Aquarium & Pet Co apart are deeply rooted in its specialization and customer interactions, albeit with some recent perceived changes. One of the most prominent features is the specialized knowledge of the staff regarding "fish and anything scaly." This expertise allows them to provide accurate information and tailored advice, which is highly valued by pet owners. Another key feature is the quality of their livestock and plants, with customers reporting healthy fish and a superior selection of plants. The aesthetic appeal of their "beautiful" and consistently well-maintained setups serves as a living demonstration of their product quality and care standards. Being a "family owned business" is often perceived as a significant feature, fostering a sense of personalized service and community connection that larger chain stores may lack. This often translates to a more dedicated and passionate approach to customer care. The fact that it's "a cool place to peek into" even without the intention to buy indicates an engaging and interesting retail environment, which can draw in casual visitors and convert them into future customers. However, a crucial contrasting feature, as highlighted by a recent review, is the potential decline in customer service. The perception of staff being "rude, and short tempered," and viewing customers as "an inconvenience," is a serious issue that can undermine all other positive features. This perceived change in demeanor can lead to customer dissatisfaction and loss of business, even for loyal patrons who previously chose Roe over "box store where I could get a cheaper price for the same item." This feedback underscores that while product selection and knowledge are vital, customer interaction and attitude are equally, if not more, important for a successful local business.

Regarding promotional information, Roe Aquarium & Pet Co would ideally leverage its strengths in specialized inventory and knowledgeable staff. Promotions could emphasize their unique selection of aquatic plants and specific fish species that are difficult to find elsewhere. Showcasing the beauty and health of their aquariums through social media and in-store displays would be a strong visual promotion. Advertising their expertise by offering workshops or informational sessions on aquarium setup, fish health, or plant care could attract new hobbyists and position them as a leading educational resource. Loyalty programs for returning customers, offering discounts on fish food, plants, or equipment, could encourage repeat business, especially for those who appreciate the specialized products. Highlighting their status as a "family owned business" can resonate with customers who prefer supporting local enterprises. If the issue of customer service flagged in the negative review is addressed, this could be a point of future promotion – emphasizing a renewed commitment to friendly and helpful interactions. Collaborations with local aquarium clubs or reptile societies could also expand their reach and showcase their specialized offerings. Seasonal promotions for specific types of fish (e.g., pond fish in spring, tropical fish for winter setups) or discounts on maintenance supplies could also be effective. The consistent positive feedback on fish health ("fish were bought from Roe and have been doing fabulous") is a powerful testament that should be a core element of any marketing message, as healthy animals are paramount to pet owners. Ultimately, maintaining a consistent positive customer experience, combining their strong product selection with exceptional service, would be the most effective long-term promotional strategy for Roe Aquarium & Pet Co within the 'Pet Store Near Me' category.

I used to really enjoy stopping in, but over time the staff has gotten to be rude, and short tempered, like they don’t have the time to assist you, or your an inconvenience. It feels a little off putting from a customer standpoint, as I have always made a point to buy my setup and tanks from Roe, rather than from a box store where I could get a cheaper price for the same item. That said, I’ll take my business elsewhere moving forward.

Roe Aquarioum & Pet Co is THE FISH STORE to go to in the Quad Cities! I simply cannot get enough!. The fish and tank selection is phenomenal, they carry a variety of supplies and they don;t try to over sell you. The fish are always healthy, gorgeous, and paired safely. You can tell so much thought and care goes into their fish room. If fish are new or sick, they quarantine them and are up front about it unlike other stores in the area. I have so much respect for their advice and opinions when it comes to fish. I wish every fish store could still operate like this. The staff, a family, is phenomenal, knowledgeable, and kind. I am so grateful that we found Roe right when we moved to the QCA!

Staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The packed the fish so they could make the 2 hour ride home. They even made sure my cooler was warm enough. They had a great fish selection and I had multiple choices of the fish I wanted. Would highly recommend
