Welcome to Aquatic Environments
Aquatic Environments, located at 730 E Kimberly Rd, Davenport, IA 52807, USA, is a specialized pet store established in 1993, primarily serving the aquatic and reptile hobbyist community. Positioned as a prominent option within the 'Pet Store Near Me' category for residents of Davenport, Moline, Bettendorf, and Rock Island, it offers a focused inventory and range of services. The store can be reached at (563) 445-3687.
The environment of Aquatic Environments presents a complex picture, as indicated by varied customer reviews. On one hand, a highly positive review describes the "Place is fantastic! Tanks clean, well staffed crazy stocking. Definitely a place you would drive hours to see. 10/10." This suggests a visually impressive and well-maintained store, where the focus is on displaying healthy and diverse aquatic life in clean tanks. Such an environment is crucial for a specialized aquatic store, as it directly reflects the health of the animals and the expertise of the staff. The phrase "crazy stocking" might imply a vast and varied selection, which can be exciting for hobbyists. This positive perspective paints a picture of a store that is a destination in itself, offering a stimulating and inspiring atmosphere for those passionate about aquariums and reptiles. However, a contrasting negative review highlights potential issues with the environment and animal health. The customer observed "a floater somewhere amongst them, one that died" in "more than one tanks in the store itself." While acknowledging that "that’s gonna happen from time to time," the rate at which it occurred was concerning. This suggests that while some tanks may be pristine, others might have issues with animal welfare or cleanliness, which can be off-putting for customers. The conflicting reviews suggest that the consistency of the environment may vary, or that individual experiences can differ greatly. Ideally, for a specialized store, the environment should consistently reflect excellent animal husbandry and hygiene.
The services and goods for sale at Aquatic Environments are extensive, catering specifically to the needs of aquatic and reptile enthusiasts. As "the aquatic headquarters of the Midwest," their offerings are specialized and include:
- Live Saltwater Fish: A wide selection of saltwater fish, including popular species like angelfish and clownfish, designed for those interested in marine aquariums.
- Live Coral and Invertebrates: The store specializes in premium and live rock coral, along with other invertebrates, which are essential for thriving reef tank environments.
- Live Freshwater Fish: A broad range of freshwater fish, plants, lobsters, shrimp, goldfish, and koi fish are available, catering to various freshwater aquarium setups. They boast a 3,000-square-foot store space for these selections.
- Reptiles: Beyond aquatics, they offer a selection of reptiles, including snakes, turtles, tortoises, chameleons, and lizards, along with necessary supplies. They claim to have the "Largest Selection of Coral, Saltwater Fish, and Reptiles in the Midwest."
- Aquariums and Stands: Various types of aquariums, including standard, reef-ready, and custom-built options, along with stands, hoods, and tops.
- Aquarium Supplies: A comprehensive range of filtration systems, lighting, heaters, food (flake, freeze-dried, frozen), decorations, and chemicals are available.
- Water Quality Products: They offer RO (Reverse Osmosis) water and premixed saltwater, which are crucial for maintaining specific aquatic environments.
- Custom Aquarium Installation and Building: A significant service is their ability to custom-install and build aquariums, catering to bespoke client needs.
- Aquarium Maintenance: They provide professional aquarium maintenance services, assisting customers with ongoing care for their tanks.
- Free Water Testing and Consultation: A highly valuable service for fish keepers, offering free water testing, analysis, and aquarium consultation to help troubleshoot problems and ensure optimal water parameters.
- Special Ordering: The store is willing to custom order products for customers if they don't have something in stock, even for unique requests.
The features of Aquatic Environments that distinguish it within the 'Pet Store Near Me' category are its deep specialization and extensive inventory in aquatic and reptile fields. A key feature is their claim to be the "aquatic headquarters of the Midwest," suggesting a market-leading position in terms of selection and expertise. The focus on sourcing a diverse and often "crazy stocking" of unique fish and rare reptiles, combined with a vast array of coral and inverts, makes it a go-to destination for serious hobbyists. The 3,000-square-foot store space dedicated to these offerings further underscores their commitment to a comprehensive inventory. Their long history, being "locally owned since 1993," implies a deep understanding of the hobby and a strong connection to the local community. The provision of free water testing, analysis, and aquarium consultation is a significant value-added feature, demonstrating a commitment to customer success and animal health beyond just selling products. The ability to perform custom aquarium installations and maintenance positions them as a full-service provider for complex aquatic setups. However, a notable contrasting feature, as per the negative review, is the perceived inconsistency in customer service and potential issues with staff attitude. The comment, "I do not appreciate the unfriendliness from the owners either, the lack of willing to help and extend knowledge," points to a potentially challenging aspect of the customer experience, which can undermine the value of their specialized offerings. This suggests that while their product knowledge may be high, the delivery of that knowledge or general interpersonal communication might sometimes fall short for some customers.
For promotional information, Aquatic Environments would leverage its strong points to attract customers, particularly those seeking specialized aquatic and reptile products and services. Key promotional strategies would include:
- Highlighting Extensive Selection: Emphasizing their "largest selection of coral, saltwater fish, and reptiles in the Midwest" and "crazy stocking" to draw enthusiasts from a wide radius.
- Expertise and Free Consultation: Promoting their free water testing and aquarium consultation services, positioning themselves as a trusted resource for advice and problem-solving.
- Custom Services: Advertising their custom aquarium installation and maintenance services to clients seeking professional setup and long-term care solutions.
- Quality and Health: Showcasing healthy livestock and clean tanks (as highlighted in positive reviews) through in-store displays, website imagery, and social media.
- New Arrivals: Regularly announcing new shipments of rare or popular fish, coral, and reptiles on social media platforms (like Facebook) and their website to create excitement and encourage frequent visits.
- Online Presence: Maintaining an informative website (aquaticenvironment.com) with details on products, services, and testimonials, and actively engaging on social media.
- Targeted Advertising: Reaching out to local aquarium clubs, reptile societies, and hobbyist forums to promote their specialized inventory and services.
- Addressing Customer Feedback: While not explicitly a promotion, proactively addressing negative feedback regarding customer service and animal health (if those issues are ongoing) would be crucial for long-term reputation and drawing more positive attention. This might involve internal training or public statements of commitment to improving customer interaction.
- Competitive Pricing and Value: While not directly mentioned, promoting "competitive prices" as stated in their "About Us" page would be part of their strategy.
In summary, Aquatic Environments stands as a significant destination in Davenport, IA, for aquatic and reptile enthusiasts, offering a deep and wide selection of animals and supplies, coupled with specialized services like custom installations and free water testing. While some customer experiences highlight areas for improvement in consistent customer service and animal health, its long-standing presence and extensive offerings make it a crucial 'Pet Store Near Me' for hobbyists in the region.

Jan 11, 2025 · Robbz OlsonI understand things happen sometimes, and it’s not always a stores fault, but this is just too ridiculous not to post. When we left the store, we drove an hour back home to find that one of the fish had died upon arrival. We thought it was just the stress of the journey, so we didn’t think much. We acclimated the fish, and put them into our cycled 55 with 8 mollies and 8 tetra. A WEEK into it we’ve lost 3, and probably one more as he is heavy breathing and sinking. All of our other fish are fine. There have been no dramatic changes, I test the water weekly and do a water change when needed. If one hadn’t died on the way home (which we always acquire our fish from a ways away, and never have died during travel) I would chalk it up to the parameters in our tank. But this is just ridiculous. Almost every single fish we bought from that store died a week into it. We noticed that in more than one tanks in the store itself that there’s a floater somewhere amongst them, one that died. I get it, that’s gonna happen from time to time, but not at the rate that it happens in this store. For me, losing 4 in a week is not fun. I do not appreciate the unfriendliness from the owners either, the lack of willing to help and extend knowledge. But can you expect anything less from commercial salt tanks stores? I feel like the attitude just comes with the hobby..
