Hours on the website don’t match. I tried going before work on a Sunday however the website says they open at nine A.M. Lady walked by inside didn’t say anything until I realized it says 10:00. Adjust times - Don’t waste peoples time
I generally like Petco except when it comes to fish. I understand it would cost a lot of money to give betta fish each their own individual tank, but it is not OK to put them in a cup. I’ve seen ammonia tests of these cups and well, they might not be from this store, overall in Petco‘s The ammonia tests are usually 2 ppm or higher. If you’re not a fish hobbyist, you might not know how toxic ammonia is to fish, and the fact that these fish are Actually living in this condition is surprising. petco also gives a lack of information on certain types of fish and how beta fish need a minimum of a 5 gallon tank. You don’t have to do this, but it would be very surprising and impressive if Petco was to write a chart of the fish that they have and how big their tanks need to be. The tank conditions in the normal tanks are also usually poor, and my friend’s fish tank got infected after acclimating the fish and letting the store water into his tank. I’m pretty sure a lot of his fish got ick or some other fungal disease. Overall, the prices are relatively good at the store. And all the other animals living conditions look relatively well even though I do not know exactly what they need to live. The fish conditions are really just very poor though. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ammonia level was as high as in the betta cups. The staff have been very kind to me, and I am thankful for that. They do show a general knowledge on fish, but I have seen other more local less chained pet stores that have a very wide knowledge on fish and exactly know their tank sizes and water conditions by memory. I do like the staff, but I would recommend having some more experienced fish keepers at the store. Although there was this one lady that knew the actual name for Betta fish (siamese fighting fish), she seemed pretty knowledgeable and suggested me not to get ghost shrimp for their tank for the fish would eat them, which did end up happening. The only reason I rate three out of five stars is because of the lack of cleaning of the fish tanks and general care to promote the fishes health. Also, this is just a recommendation, but if you wanted to draw customers in, you could use live plants for some tanks and make a Walstad method tank and I think customers would really enjoy it and you might get more purchases at your store. Just editing my review and I realize after I go on the website, they actually encourage putting a Betta fish in a small bowl. It is a common myth that if you put a betta fish in a large tank, they will just stay in one small part of the tank so it’s fine if you put them in smaller tanks, but after watching a multi hour time lapse of a beta fish in a 20 gallon tank, the Betta fish explored every single part of the tank. I will also include I do prefer Petco over PetSmart mainly because I have seen guppies in betta cups at some PetSmart’s and Petco does take some time to hire a little more knowledgeable employees. Also misgendered my sisters male betta fish in which she was sad she didn’t get a female.
People that work there are good, although finding someone at the register when you’re ready is hit or miss. That’s not so bad, though. The economy is still meh and staffing is tough. What drives me crazy is that their pet food shelves are half empty but their aisles are constantly blocked with “overstock,” making it difficult to impossible to navigate their carts through the store.
My senior cat only eats Royal Canin wet cat food. I have spent hundreds in this store. The price per can was $3.09. I came in one day and was shocked they changed the price to almost $1.00 more per can. I complained and they told me it had gone up everywhere. Ironically every other Petco I go to is still $3.09 and Petsmart $3.29. So it only went up only in this store. I now travel farther away to purchase this at the normal price. They lost my business.
I used the Mount Kisco Petco groomers as my regular groomer was unavailable. I think Gabriella and the staff at this location did a great job. My dog was taken care of relatively quickly, his cut was done well and the price was reasonable. All the staff were polite and professional and I would take my dog here again.
