Initially, I was excited to see that reptiles were added to bird dog and cat fish. However, I am incredibly disappointed this is how they are being “cared” for. My goal with this review is to see change and proper care implemented, not to receive an angry reply. In my opinion, there is no way you can defend this type of care. To the owners and manager, please seek out advice from fellow reptile stores or online sources to get proper care for these guys. A simple start is getting proper substrate, provide fresh water every day, give them proper hides/ coverage, UVB and heat. Even if it’s temporary housing, every animal deserves proper care.

The environment of Bird Dog & Cat Fish likely includes designated areas for different types of pets and their supplies. You can probably expect sections for dog food, cat food, birdseed and accessories, and potentially aquariums and fish-related items. Given a recent review mentioning the addition of reptiles, there would also be an area dedicated to reptile habitats and supplies. In terms of services, Bird Dog & Cat Fish primarily seems to focus on providing pet food and supplies. The positive review regarding finding a suitable dog food indicates that they stock a range of brands. While specific services like grooming or veterinary clinics are not mentioned in the provided reviews, it's common for pet stores to offer advice on pet care and nutrition. The addition of reptiles suggests that they may also offer supplies and potentially guidance related to their care.
However, one critical review raises concerns about the care of the reptiles at the store. The reviewer expressed disappointment with the conditions they observed, mentioning a lack of proper substrate, absence of fresh water daily, inadequate hides/coverage, and the absence of UVB and heat provisions. The reviewer's goal was to encourage the owners and manager to seek advice on proper reptile care, emphasizing that even temporary housing should meet basic welfare standards. This feedback is important for potential customers, especially those interested in reptiles, as it points to a potential area of concern within the store's operations.
Features of Bird Dog & Cat Fish, based on the limited information, appear to include:
- Variety of Pet Supplies: Catering to dogs, cats, birds, and now reptiles.

Dec 31, 2024 · SierraLove this pet store!! My pupper would get bored with kibble. Meaning I kept buying different brands that she'd eat..for a week then stopped. Now she has a favorite and I only get it here🙌❤️ Fromm Gold Adult Black bag
May 13, 2025 · Naomi DuesterbergAfter reading the reviews here, I’ll vastly shorten mine: The rudeness seems to be a pattern; they apparently need to mark up their prices much higher than the next place to compensate for lack of return business so they can still pay whatever they pay… The elder managerial type people are doing zero to contribute to an environment for people like young teens having their first job get any good experiences as to what either good service OR quality customer satisfaction is, and it’s going to hurt these young kids as they go into the real world where people do more than coddle or belittle… The way these people are with pets (I brought my service animal and another dog in training)? I pray to God they don’t own any of their own, nor raise young children or depressed teenagers - if I was in the charge of any of the staff I encountered I’d want to run away from home, for sure! I was staying in Spring Branch from out of town on a lark, mourning loss of one of my dogs, fresh in grief, and was more professional when they pissed me off, than they were the entire time from entry to exit; no hello tho it appeared upon entry I and my dogs were the only ones in the store. I’d called ahead to ensure they had what I needed because I suffer from chronic pain, and am hyper aware of how I can be easily irritated when I’m not doing well, add to that grieving…my plan was in and out for my one item and that’s it. I noticed they had a dog wash. I took my dogs and I into the room to see what they had, because part of my stay was to go to the river and I was thinking maybe I’d come back and do the dog wash the day I did the river. In marches some old woman with long hair, no asking or anything, but just loudly proclaiming “You have to pay before you use the dog wash.” Having prior taken note to my own mood and hearing HER asinine tone AT me, I didn’t reply but simply left the room to leave the store, but to ask the kid behind the counter about where my product could be found, long haired old bag started yelling at me “you have to pay don’t complain to him because you didn’t pay first you have to pay first!” all long winded and NOT hearing that I wasn’t in fact complaining to a teenager about bad behavior of an adult but asking about what I came to buy. At that point I didn’t even finish explaining but left, because on a good pain but no grief day, the woman would’ve irritated me something good. This day, in this state, I started shaking, and those are the moments it’s good some people manage their pain with a dog and not other Texas Sacred Rights* I took my dogs for a walk down the strip to the vet on the corner thinking maybe since it was a food item they’d have it, but also to calm myself down because the old woman struck me as the type who might come outside to get in my face and my car was parked directly in the handicapped spot in front of her stores front door. Upon leaving the vet and getting my dogs in the car some 15 minutes later, I decided last minute to step out of my car and take a pic of the storefront so I could create a review, and would you believe it? The store had one customer and all the woman and the teen boy were doing was staring out the window, gesturing to me in a vulgar way?! Like seriously, I’m sure there’s animals to feed or that one customer to wait on or something. I went in to tell them as much, and that I’m here taking the pic I have right to take to leave a review, and all the sudden the boy is too close for comfort and suggesting I leave altho I hadnt fully stepped into the store at that point. With alllll the ugly in the world AND, in service, it being still an expectation of being served? I’m going to pray for these ugly people, that others like themselves don’t recreate a recent Sonic incident that happened a few miles south of them; they may not realize but they are part OF problems like such, & they’d do well to change for many a reason. End result? I drove to Pets Barn in Boerne, spent $100, & now WORK in SB, so guess who I’ll actively DErecommend? 😁👍🏽🤷🏼♀️
