Be prepared to spend time here if you come check out a bird. Charlie and Ron want to make sure you actually develop a bond with the bird before taking it home. They have many birds throughout the entire home. They have Amazon's, macaws, cockatoos and cockatiels. I can see why some of the reviews say they are attached to the birds and could possibly not want to let them go. It's because they actually do care about the well being of the birds, they want to make sure they go to good homes. I rescued a bird from Avian and would recommend them if you're serious.

May 01, 2022 · Hassan KhanWe contacted ARC about 2-3 months ago inquiring about a bird we saw on petfinder.com. I reached out via email and received a call from them the next day. They were very upfront about the process and that we should come expecting to stay for awhile. She said we would meet all the birds, then have time alone where we would see what bird we might bond with. Bonding is the most important to them. We live about 200 miles away from their location, but for us it was worth the drive to find the right bird. The first day we went, it was exactly as she had explained. However, we had no idea just how many birds this rescue had. There are many! Almost any breed you can think of. This couple have dedicated their whole lives and home to caring for these birds. As bird owners ourselves, I know how much work they are, so that alone shows me how passionate they are about these babies. We ended up bonding with an Umbrella Cockatoo. I never considered one as a pet, but when you know, you know. It was an instant connection for me, my husband and our kids. We spent some time with the bird on day 1 and then in a couple weeks we came back to spend even more time. On this 2nd visit she wanted to make sure we could handle him. We kept in touch regarding the bird and on our 3rd visit we got to take him home. At that point the bird was excited and we knew for sure he was meant to be ours. With the adoption they made sure we had a crate to take him in, provided a cage, food, and his favorite toys. I’m very happy with our experience and will recommend them to anyone I know who is looking for a bird. I’m leaving this review because I felt we had a very positive experience. Some other reviewers said things from a perspective that feels to me, they are not experienced bird owners. This is a rescue. Not a pet store. They are doing this with kindness, not for profit. Please keep in mind that some birds are surrendered because their owners couldn’t keep them for one reason or another. Sometimes this means they might come from neglected homes, poorly trained, or maybe even abused. ARC are very experienced in caring for these creatures, very knowledgeable, and do so much to give these birds a caring home.
Oct 14, 2024 · Jessica Johns-Torres and Armando TorresSo I visited this center in October of 2022, and was looking to adopt a macaw. I knew I’d have to spend some time there so that wasn’t an issue. The issue was that the lady that runs this organization is overwhelmed. Far too many birds for her to take care of. There are about 100 birds on property. 50 of the birds BELONG to the lady and the other 50 are up for adoption. The 50 that are up for adoption are in bad shape, plucked feathers and quite stressed. I was looking for a large macaw to adopt, ( blue and gold, Catalina, Scarlett) and she has about 8 large macaws, however only 3 are for adoption.. and those 3 are plucked bare, and not very friendly. Which was odd to me since she said she’d had them for over a year. The other 5, her personal birds are beautiful and friendly! This was the theme throughout the house. She has African greys, cockatoo, Cockatiels, you name it, but when when you ask if one of the nicer looking birds are up for adoption you get a “ Oh that’s my personal bird”. I honestly think she means well, but she’s overwhelmed with the amount of birds she has. They are LITERALLY taking over the house and it’s rather a shock when you walk it. She should look at letting people help her by fostering some of the birds. I ultimately did not adopt from here, I did offer to help her foster, but never received a response. I hope she gets some help.
Jan 05, 2023 · Joi EubanksI appreciate what they are doing in that age but the house needs to keep clean. It's too messy, not healthy environment for them and birds. Birds are all over the place even in toilet!! I was hesitating for 2nd visit for adopting a bird. I think if you are looking for Amazon, macaw and other big birds, you may visit but it is not worth to adopt conure, cockatail from them as they are available in pet shop in fair condition.
Oct 10, 2023 · Nabila hasanThe couple who runs this rescue are amazing. They are so kind and knowledgeable. They do everything in their power to make sure their rescue birds are rehomed to a loving, caring, and safe home. I had the opportunity to adopt a white face cockatiel from them. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a bird companion. But please, please make sure you're ready to commit to your soon to be feathered friend.
