I love this park. The community treats you like family. You can find dog bowls for water. Most time they already have water-- great community of dog lovers. Big dogs with little dogs is pretty common. The park has grass.... and yes unfortunately we're in the desert and those little panless stickers will catch onto winter sweaters. There's a skate park next to the dog park. Cute little mile hill hike with a picnic table. Phenomenal sunset views. I imagine sunrise being just as beautiful. ...November/February pictures

Welcome to Westside Dog Park
For dog owners in El Paso, finding the perfect spot for your furry companion to run free, socialize, and simply be a dog is essential. While our beautiful desert landscape offers unique challenges, the Westside Dog Park stands out as a beloved and highly utilized resource for the local canine community. Nestled within the vibrant west side of El Paso, this park isn't just a fenced-in area; it's a hub for dog lovers, a place where tails wag freely, and happy barks echo through the air.
Westside Dog Park is more than just a place to let your dog off-leash; it's a testament to El Paso's commitment to providing excellent recreational spaces for all its residents, including the four-legged ones. With its well-thought-out design and a welcoming atmosphere cultivated by its regular visitors, it has earned a reputation as one of the best dog parks in the city. Whether you have a rambunctious large breed or a tiny pup looking for gentle playmates, this park aims to cater to every dog's needs, offering a safe and stimulating environment for canine enjoyment and human connection. It's a true community gem where friendships, both human and canine, blossom under the Texas sky.
Westside Dog Park is conveniently located at 7400 High Ridge Dr, El Paso, TX 79912, USA. Its placement in the west side of El Paso makes it easily accessible for residents across a wide area of the city, particularly those in the western neighborhoods. The park is nestled within a larger community area, often referred to as Westside Community Park, contributing to its family-friendly and welcoming ambiance.
Accessibility to the park is generally straightforward. High Ridge Drive is a well-trafficked road, and the park’s location ensures relatively easy navigation from main thoroughfares. Ample parking is typically available, making it convenient for visitors to arrive and quickly get their dogs ready for playtime. The park's integration with other community facilities, such as a neighboring skate park and nearby hiking trails, adds to its appeal, allowing for a broader range of activities for visitors. While the exact public transport routes directly to the park might vary, driving and private vehicle access remain the most common and convenient methods for reaching this popular dog-friendly destination in El Paso. The surrounding neighborhood is residential and well-maintained, contributing to a pleasant journey to and from the park.
Westside Dog Park offers a range of services designed to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for dogs and their owners. These amenities are crucial for maintaining the park's popularity and functionality.
- Off-Leash Play Areas: The core service is providing designated, fully fenced areas where dogs can run and play freely without the constraint of a leash. This is vital for their physical and mental well-being.
- Separate Sections for Small and Large Dogs: To ensure the safety and comfort of all canine visitors, Westside Dog Park features distinct, fenced-off sections for small dogs and large dogs. This separation helps prevent potential conflicts and allows dogs to play with companions of similar size and energy levels.
- Double-Gated Entry System: The park utilizes an "airlock" or double-gated entrance system, which is a crucial safety feature. This design helps prevent dogs from escaping as owners enter or exit the park, providing an added layer of security.
- Pet Waste Stations with Bags: Maintaining cleanliness is a high priority. The park is equipped with multiple pet waste stations that include complimentary bags, encouraging all users to pick up after their dogs and keep the environment hygienic for everyone.
- Dog Bowls and Water Access (community-driven): While not always directly plumbed water fountains, the community of regular visitors often ensures that dog bowls are available, and sometimes pre-filled with water. This reflects a strong, caring community ethos among park users.
- Benches and Seating Areas: For the comfort of human companions, the park provides benches and seating areas, allowing owners to relax and observe their dogs playing.
Westside Dog Park boasts several features and highlights that make it a standout choice for dog owners in El Paso. These elements contribute to its positive reputation and make it a highly utilized community resource.
- Spacious Environment: The park offers a generous amount of space for dogs to run, sprint, and explore. This ample room is a significant advantage, especially for high-energy dogs who need plenty of space to burn off steam.
- Level and Safe Ground: The ground within the dog park is generally described as level and safe, minimizing the risk of trips or falls for both dogs and humans during active play.
- Grassy Areas: Despite being in a desert climate, the park notably features grassy sections. While some reviews mention potential "panless stickers" (burrs) during certain seasons, the presence of grass offers a softer, more natural surface for dogs to play on compared to entirely gravel or dirt areas.
- Strong Community Vibe: A recurring highlight from visitors is the welcoming and friendly community of dog lovers. This positive social atmosphere enhances the experience for both dogs and their owners, fostering a sense of belonging.
- Proximity to Other Recreational Facilities: The dog park's location adjacent to a skate park and near hiking trails provides added recreational opportunities. This allows for combined outings, catering to families with diverse interests.
- Phenomenal Sunset Views: Located in an elevated area, the park offers stunning views, particularly at sunset. This aesthetic appeal enhances the overall experience, turning a simple dog walk into a scenic outing.
- Year-Round Accessibility: Being open from 6 AM to 10 PM daily, the park provides broad accessibility throughout the year, allowing flexibility for dog owners to visit during cooler morning or evening hours, especially important in El Paso's climate.
Westside Dog Park is a public amenity managed by the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation department. As such, it does not typically offer specific promotions or special offers in the way a private business might. The park itself is free to use for all licensed and vaccinated dogs and their owners. Its value lies in providing a consistently available and well-maintained space for canine recreation at no direct cost to visitors.
However, local pet-related businesses or community organizations may occasionally host events or initiatives at or near the park that could involve special offers, such as pet adoption drives, vaccination clinics, or dog training workshops. These would be organized by third parties rather than the park itself. For information on any such community events or local pet-related promotions, it would be advisable to check local El Paso community calendars, pet store announcements, or animal welfare organization websites. The park's main "promotion" is its ongoing availability and the quality of the space it offers to the El Paso community for free.
For general inquiries about Westside Dog Park, or any public park facilities in El Paso, you can refer to the official contact information for the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department. While specific park attendants or direct lines for Westside Dog Park are not typically provided, the city's parks department is the authoritative source for information regarding rules, maintenance, and general park operations.

Westside Dog Park is exceptionally suitable for locals in the Texas region, particularly those residing in El Paso and its surrounding communities. In a vast state like Texas, and especially in a city like El Paso with its unique desert environment, having a dedicated, well-maintained, and accessible green space for dogs is a significant asset. It addresses a fundamental need for pet owners to provide their dogs with adequate exercise and social interaction, which are crucial for their health and happiness.
The park's design, featuring separate areas for large and small dogs and a secure double-gated entry system, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to safety and inclusivity for all breeds and sizes. This is paramount for local owners who prioritize the well-being of their pets in a mixed-dog environment. The positive community atmosphere, often highlighted by visitors, fosters a sense of belonging and provides opportunities for human connections among like-minded dog enthusiasts. This unofficial "community center" for dogs and their people is an invaluable resource for building local ties.
Furthermore, its integration into a larger community park offers additional benefits for families. While dogs are enjoying their off-leash time, other family members can utilize the adjacent skate park, explore the scenic mile-hill hike with picnic tables, or simply enjoy the beautiful El Paso sunset views. This multi-functional aspect makes it an ideal destination for a family outing, maximizing the utility of a single trip. The emphasis on responsible pet ownership, with readily available waste stations, also promotes a clean and respectful environment that locals can take pride in. Despite the occasional natural challenge of desert stickers, the fact that the park maintains grassy areas is a testament to the efforts made to create a pleasant experience. For El Pasoans, Westside Dog Park isn't just a place to let their dogs run; it's a vital part of their pet-owning lifestyle, offering a consistent, safe, and enjoyable space that truly enhances community well-being.

Mar 21, 2024 · ••• Arlene •••My dogs had a great time playing at the park. Very spacious, lots of room to run. The ground seems very level and safe. Excellent airlock system for safely bringing dogs in and out. Small dog section and large dog section. If there were restrooms for humans, we'd have stayed longer.
Jan 27, 2025 · Michele EllingtonWe got harassed by these people the other day who confronted us and kept taking photos and video of us. They also called the police, who arrived and talked to them for 20 seconds before leaving as even the police thought they were nuts. They wanted us out of the small dog park, despite our dogs being only 30lbs and on the medium small side. The funny thing is that there were other dogs that were bigger than ours running around in the park as well but they just decided to harass us. Not sure if they were racist or what as we were the only Asian people there. Our dogs are also very submissive and get bullied by smaller dogs all the time. If we went to the large dogs part of the park they would be bullied even more. Also nothing bad happened between our dogs and theirs so there is no reason for these people to go nuts on us. Now I see why many people avoid this park. This place needs a ban list for these crazy racists.
Oct 06, 2024 · Michael WIt was fairly easy to find. It is all sand, so it is easy to pick up after your dog. They have separate small dog and large dog sections. It is also large enough for the dogs to get good runs in. They have water for people and dogs.
Feb 25, 2025 · Diane IschGreat place to let your dogs run free. There is a park for large dogs and a separate park for small dogs. Lots of security. Safe place for dogs and their humans!
