The dog park is a brilliant idea in a city, and I was very impressed with the facility. But as a visitor to this country, I felt closed in with my nephews dogs. At home (uk), I prefer to exercise my dogs off the lead in a forest.

## Services Offered

The Town of Hempstead Dog Park (Newbridge Road Dog Park) is meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable experience for dogs and their owners. It offers several key services to ensure safety, cleanliness, and fun:

  • Dedicated Off-Leash Play Areas: The primary service is providing a secure, fenced-in space where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without the need for a leash. This expansive area covers 14,025 square feet, offering plenty of room for active play.

  • Separate Sections for Different Dog Sizes: To ensure safety and comfort for all canine visitors, the park features two distinct, securely fenced areas: a larger section designed for dogs 25 lbs and up, and a smaller section specifically for dogs under 25 lbs. This separation helps prevent potential conflicts and allows dogs to play with companions of similar size and temperament.

  • Paw-Friendly Synthetic Turf Surface: The ground cover throughout the dog runs is made of a high-quality, paw-friendly synthetic turf. This innovative surface helps keep the area clean, reduces mud and dust, and provides a comfortable and safe playing surface for dogs, minimizing impact on their joints.

  • Water Fountains for Pups and People: Seasonal water fountains are available, providing fresh drinking water for both dogs and their human companions. This is a crucial amenity, especially during warmer months, to keep everyone hydrated.

  • Waste Disposal Stations: To maintain the park's excellent cleanliness, waste bag dispensers and conveniently located trash bins are provided, encouraging responsible pet ownership and making clean-up easy for visitors.

  • Seating Areas with Shade: The park includes picnic tables with umbrellas and benches, offering ample seating for human companions to relax and supervise their dogs in comfort, even on sunny days.

## Features / Highlights

The Town of Hempstead Dog Park (Newbridge Road Dog Park) boasts several impressive features that elevate it above many other dog parks and contribute to its "brilliant" design and popularity:

  • Agility Equipment: Within each separate section (for large and small dogs), the park includes appropriately-sized agility equipment such as ramps, hurdles, and hoops. This allows dogs to engage in stimulating activities beyond just running, promoting both physical and mental agility and adding an element of fun to their playtime.

  • Secure Fencing and Double-Gated Entries: The entire 14,025-square-foot play area is surrounded by a secure chain-link fence. Additionally, it likely features double-gated entries (common for well-designed dog parks, although not explicitly stated for this specific park, it's typical for Town of Hempstead dog parks with turf surfaces), enhancing safety by preventing accidental escapes when people enter or exit.

  • Community Atmosphere: As noted by frequent visitors, the park is known for its "very friendly dogs and dog parents." This sociable environment makes it a welcoming place for new and regular visitors alike, fostering positive interactions and a sense of community among local dog lovers.

  • Integration into Newbridge Road Park: Being part of the larger Newbridge Road Park offers additional benefits. While dogs must be leashed outside the dog run, the surrounding park provides opportunities for longer walks, and families can enjoy other park amenities, potentially including restrooms or general green spaces for picnics.

  • Well-Maintained Facility: Reviews consistently point to the park's impressive and clean facilities, indicating a high standard of maintenance by the Town of Hempstead. This dedication to upkeep ensures a pleasant and hygienic experience for all users.

  • Resident-Only Access: It's important to highlight that this facility is open exclusively to Town of Hempstead residents. This ensures that the park primarily serves its local tax-paying community and helps manage capacity, contributing to a more controlled and enjoyable environment for registered users. Proof of residency, current rabies vaccination, and a Town of Hempstead dog license are typically required.

## Promotions or Special Offers

As a public amenity operated by the Town of Hempstead, the Town of Hempstead Dog Park does not typically engage in commercial promotions or offer traditional "specials" like a private business would. Its primary "offer" is providing free and dedicated access to a high-quality off-leash dog park for its residents, which is a significant value in itself for dog owners in the New York metropolitan area.

However, the Town of Hempstead Parks Department, which manages this facility, may occasionally host or support community events that are relevant to dog owners. These could include:

  • Dog-themed community days: Events focusing on pet adoption, responsible pet ownership, or canine health.

  • Park clean-up initiatives: Volunteer opportunities for residents to help maintain the beauty and cleanliness of their local park, including the dog run.

  • Educational workshops: Sessions on dog training, pet first aid, or local dog regulations.

For information on any such community-driven events or programs, New York residents interested in the Town of Hempstead Dog Park should regularly check the official Town of Hempstead website, particularly their Parks & Recreation section and community calendar. Additionally, local community groups or Facebook pages dedicated to the park might share informal meetups or news relevant to regular visitors. We took our 2yr old Rottweiler here for the first time tonight and had a great experience. Everyone was very welcoming and all the dogs got along great. It was clean and they had fresh water spickets available to fill your dog's bowl. There was plenty of seating as well. We're definitely coming back.
