Welcome to Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park
For dog owners across Long Island, finding a dedicated and well-maintained space where their beloved canine companions can run, play, and socialize off-leash is a true gift. The concrete jungle might be the common perception of New York, but venturing just a bit eastward into Nassau County reveals fantastic green spaces designed with our furry friends in mind. Among these, the Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park in Massapequa stands out as a highly-regarded destination for local pups and their human counterparts.
This dog park isn't just a fenced-in area; it's a vibrant community hub where dogs can truly be themselves, exploring, sniffing, and interacting in a safe and expansive environment. From energetic retrievers to pint-sized chihuahuas, the Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park caters to a diverse canine population, offering distinct spaces to ensure comfortable and enjoyable play for all. If you're a Long Islander looking for the perfect spot to let your dog burn off some energy, meet new friends, and enjoy the great outdoors, this park should definitely be on your radar. Its reputation for cleanliness and natural surroundings makes it a top choice for responsible pet owners in the area.
The Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park is conveniently situated at the intersection of Clocks Blvd & E Pine St, Massapequa, NY 11758, USA. This strategic location in Massapequa, within the Town of Oyster Bay, makes it easily accessible for residents across a wide swathe of Nassau County and even parts of Suffolk County. Massapequa itself is a well-established community known for its parks and recreational facilities, and the dog park seamlessly integrates into this pet-friendly landscape.
Accessibility is a key advantage for this dog park. For those traveling by car, the park’s location at a recognizable intersection in Massapequa simplifies navigation. Users often report ample parking availability, a significant convenience for anyone driving to the park, especially on busy weekend days. While Long Island's public transportation network is primarily bus-based, several Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) bus routes serve the Massapequa area, potentially offering connections for those without private vehicles. However, given the nature of a dog park visit with a pet, most visitors likely rely on personal transportation. The straightforward address and reported ease of parking contribute significantly to the park's appeal as a go-to destination for local dog owners.
The Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park is designed to provide essential services that cater to the needs of both dogs and their owners, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience.
- Designated Off-Leash Areas: The primary service is the provision of spacious, fenced-in areas where dogs can legally and safely roam and play without a leash. This is paramount for their physical exercise and mental stimulation.
- Separate Play Areas: A crucial feature, as highlighted by a user review, is the clear separation of play areas. There is a specific side designated for small dogs (typically those under 25 lbs), ensuring that smaller breeds can play comfortably and safely away from larger, more boisterous dogs. This thoughtful design minimizes potential stress or accidental injuries.
- Water Access: The park provides water on premise, a vital service especially during warmer months. This ensures dogs stay hydrated during their active playtime.
- Waste Disposal: While users are advised to bring their own bags due to sometimes limited supply, the park is equipped with waste receptacles. This encourages responsible pet ownership and helps maintain the park's cleanliness, a quality frequently praised by visitors.
- Natural Grass Surface: Unlike some city dog runs with dirt or artificial turf, the Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park boasts natural grass. This provides a softer, more comfortable surface for dogs' paws and joints, and allows for natural sniffing and exploration, which is enriching for canines.
- Regular Cleaning: User reviews consistently commend the park's cleanliness, indicating a commitment to regular maintenance and upkeep by the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department.
The Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park offers several standout features that contribute to its popularity and positive reputation among local dog owners:
- Exceptional Spaciousness: One of the most frequently lauded features is the sheer size of the park. Its expansive layout allows for vigorous running, chasing, and wide-ranging play, which is a major advantage for dogs needing ample room to stretch their legs.
- Dedicated Small Dog Area: The thoughtful inclusion of a separate, equally spacious area for smaller dogs is a significant highlight. This ensures that every dog, regardless of size, can enjoy a safe and stress-free environment tailored to their play style.
- Natural Grass Surfaces: The presence of natural grass throughout the park is a major plus. It’s more comfortable for dogs, provides natural scents for them to explore, and helps keep the area cooler than paved or gravel surfaces.
- Consistent Cleanliness: Visitors consistently praise the park's cleanliness, suggesting that it is well-maintained. A clean environment makes the experience more pleasant for both dogs and their owners.
- Reliable Water Access: Having water readily available on-site means owners don't have to worry as much about bringing large quantities of water, especially during long play sessions.
- Sense of Community: As with many well-frequented dog parks, this location fosters a strong sense of community among regulars. It's a place where owners connect, share experiences, and watch their dogs build friendships.
- Ample Parking: The ease of finding parking, as noted by users, significantly enhances the overall convenience of visiting the park.
As a municipal park facility operated by the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs, the Town of Oyster Bay Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions, discounts, or special loyalty programs in the way a private business might. The primary "offer" is free public access to a well-maintained and highly valued recreational space for dogs and their owners.
However, the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department or local community groups may occasionally host public events, such as pet adoption days, dog-friendly festivals, or park clean-up initiatives, within the broader park system that could indirectly benefit or involve dog park users. These are not commercial promotions but opportunities for community engagement and park enhancement. We recommend checking the official Town of Oyster Bay website's Parks & Recreation section or local community calendars for announcements regarding such events that might add to your experience at the dog park. These types of community-focused activities underscore the park’s role as a valuable local resource.

May 01, 2024 · Astrid Maria Baute MestreThis is a very large dog park with a side for small (25lbs) sides with plenty of space and water on premise. Bring your own doggy bags, as the supply here is limited. This was my first time going on a Wednesday around 2pm and it was empty, I will try back this weekend.
Oct 19, 2022 · Tahir MessamThe park was so nice today. The weather was great and the park was cleaner than I have seen it before.
Mar 12, 2025 · Michael TannerI'm in the habit of visiting different ones even though I love animals but cannot afford to care for a dog. This one has a dirt ground but has water bowls and a hose on each side for large dogs and one for small. Whichever one I go to, I meet the nicest people and learn so much from them! 😄
Sep 04, 2024 · Arlene GieseDirtiest park I’ve been to. No bags. Quite a few aggressive dogs come and a lot of miserable whiny people mostly older women.
