Took our 10 month old puppy here yesterday. It was a little hard to find as the GPS leads up into the parking lot and that's it. If you located the children's playground area, walk in that direction and then you'll see the tennis courts. The dog park is right behind that area. It is divided into small and large dog areas. Small dogs being 30lbs and under and large 30lbs and over. There is turf, tennis balls and a couple of fixed structures for the dogs to play with. There are also 2 benches as well as a water fountain for the pups and humans. They were not working at the moment yesterday. I also liked that they had a poop bag dispenser so you could clean up after your dog in case you forget to bring your own bags. Nice place to let you dog run off leash. Whe. We were there, there was only 1 other small dog there.

Location and Accessibility

Tully Dog Park is located at 211 Denton Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, USA, within the expansive Michael J. Tully Park. While the GPS might initially lead you to the general parking lot, finding the dog park itself is quite straightforward once you know the lay of the land. From the parking area, head towards the children's playground. Continue in that direction, and you'll soon spot the tennis courts. The dog park is conveniently situated right behind the tennis court area. This clear path makes it easy for local New Yorkers to navigate to the park without much hassle, even on their first visit.

The accessibility of Tully Dog Park is a significant advantage for residents of New Hyde Park and neighboring communities in Nassau County. Its location within a larger park complex means there's ample parking, which can often be a challenge at other urban or suburban dog parks. Being part of Michael J. Tully Park also offers the benefit of a well-maintained public space, with paved walking trails nearby where leashed dogs are also welcome for a stroll before or after their off-leash playtime. This combination of easy access, sufficient parking, and integration into a larger park system makes Tully Dog Park a highly convenient and desirable destination for dog owners across the New York region.

Services Offered

  • Off-Leash Play Areas: The primary service offered by Tully Dog Park is a safe and expansive off-leash environment for dogs to run, play, and socialize freely.

  • Separate Small and Large Dog Sections: To ensure the safety and comfort of all canine visitors, the park is clearly divided into two distinct areas: one for small dogs (generally 30 lbs/31 lbs and under) and another for large dogs (30 lbs/31 lbs and over). This separation allows dogs to play with others of similar size and energy levels.

  • Waste Bag Dispensers: For the convenience of dog owners and to promote cleanliness, the park provides readily available poop bag dispensers. This ensures that visitors can easily clean up after their pets, contributing to a hygienic environment for everyone.

  • Water Fountains: During the warmer months, the park offers water fountains specifically designed for both dogs and humans. This essential amenity ensures that both pets and their owners can stay hydrated during their visit, especially after vigorous play.

  • Fixed Play Structures/Obstacles: The park includes a couple of fixed structures and obstacles within the pebble section, offering opportunities for dogs to engage in light agility activities, explore, and get some mental stimulation in addition to physical exercise.

Features / Highlights

  • Recently Renovated with High-Quality Turf: Tully Dog Park boasts a beautiful, recently renovated design, featuring very high-quality artificial turf. This specialized turf, often referred to as K9 Grass, is made specifically for dog runs, offering a clean, durable, and comfortable surface that is easy to maintain and provides excellent drainage. The turf significantly improves the park's cleanliness and usability, especially compared to traditional grass or dirt surfaces.

  • Generous Space for Play: The park is designed to be spacious, allowing several dogs to play simultaneously without feeling overcrowded. This ample room ensures that dogs can truly "get all the zoomies out," as one reviewer enthusiastically put it, providing a fantastic outlet for their energy. Recent renovations have also nearly doubled the dogs' play space, adding an additional 3,200 square feet of turf.

  • Dedicated Small and Large Dog Areas: The clear division into separate sections for small (30 lbs/31 lbs and under) and large (30 lbs/31 lbs and over) dogs is a crucial safety feature and a major highlight. This thoughtful separation minimizes potential conflicts and allows dogs to play comfortably with suitable companions.

  • Thoughtful Amenities for Dogs and Humans: Beyond the play space, the park provides valuable amenities. These include benches for human seating, offering a comfortable spot to relax while supervising their dogs. There's also a good amount of shade in the sitting area, which is a welcome feature, especially during warmer months. Water fountains for both pups and humans (seasonal availability) and convenient poop bag dispensers further enhance the user experience.

  • Secure Double-Door Entry System: The entrance to the dog park features a secure double-door system. This design is highly practical, making it easier for owners to transition their dogs into and out of the park without the risk of other dogs escaping, enhancing safety and peace of mind.

  • Agility Elements: The inclusion of "fixed structures" and "obstacles for the doggies to exercise and explore in the pebble section" adds an element of fun and mental stimulation, allowing dogs to engage in more than just free-running.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public dog park managed by the Town of North Hempstead, Tully Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special sales in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "offer" is providing a high-quality, free-to-use public amenity for residents and their dogs. However, it's worth noting that access to the larger Michael J. Tully Park, which includes the dog park, may require a Town of North Hempstead "PARK ID" for residents aged 5 and older. This ID is typically required for entry into the overall park facilities. While there might be a fee associated with obtaining this ID, it grants access to all applicable park amenities, including the dog park.

It is recommended that New York residents check the official Town of North Hempstead Parks & Recreation website or contact them directly for the most current information regarding any required park IDs, associated fees, and eligibility. Occasionally, parks departments might host free dog-related events or community days, which would be advertised through local town channels.

This is a beautiful recently renovated dog park in North Hempstead. The turf is of very high quality and the area is big, there could be several dogs at the time with no problems. The park also has a section for small dogs. There is a water fountain for dogs inside available during the warm months. There are a couple of obstacles for the doggies toe exercise and explore in the pebble section. There is a sitting area for humans with a good shade. The entrance has a Double door system so it is easier for transitioning outside without having other dogs escaping. Highly recommend checking this out and bringing your doggie here. They will get all the zoomies out!.

Nice dog play area, fairly busy when I went, but...there were seats available. 4 stars because the water for the dog bowl wasn't on yet... it is a nice park, a bonus to have a dog park in the park area. It's worth checking out!

This place is great it is clean, and roomy. It has astro turf and sand area for dogs to play in. Garbage is nearby for disposal of dog wastes, water shu off as early as other parks due to seasons. The dogs and their owners are friendly and owners are attentive to their dog's actions. Edit: August 2023 The water in the fountain was turned on, but the water is boiling hot during mid day. Watch out for a mother and son pair, they have an aggressive dog, and will insist on staying in the park while their dog IS leashed but the dog will actively trying to run to your dog and and tries to bite your dog. Her son struggles pulling the dog back. It is a time bomb waiting to happen. You need to be super attentive, they will come in and their dog will start running towards your dog without warning. It happened multiple times and almost every time I see the pair.
