This comprehensive article will delve into all aspects of Sarah’s Heart Dog Park, offering valuable insights into its convenient location, the essential services and features it provides, and why it has become such a favored spot for dog owners throughout New Jersey. We’ll cover what to expect when you visit, highlight its unique attributes, and explain why it’s particularly suitable for locals seeking a high-quality outdoor experience with their cherished pets.
Sarah’s Heart Dog Park is conveniently located at 200 G St, Penns Grove, NJ 08069, USA. This address places it to the side of Dunn Park, a larger public green space. Its location in Salem County, South Jersey, makes it highly accessible for residents within Penns Grove and from surrounding communities, including Carneys Point Township, which shares its borders. The park is situated in a residential area with some commercial presence, making it a familiar landmark for locals.
Being set to the side of Dunn Park implies that the dog park likely benefits from established parking facilities nearby. Reviews mention a "large empty lot presumably for dog park parking," indicating ample space for vehicles, which adds to the convenience for visitors. The park is accessible during daylight hours, typically from sunrise to sunset, providing flexible opportunities for visits. For New Jersey locals in the region, this convenient location ensures a relatively short drive to a dedicated and well-appointed off-leash area.
Sarah’s Heart Dog Park provides a range of essential services designed to ensure a clean, safe, and enjoyable experience for all users.
- Separate Fenced Areas: The park features two distinct, securely fenced areas, approximately 50x100 feet each. These are separated by dog size, with one designated for large dogs and the other for small dogs. This crucial separation allows dogs of varying sizes and temperaments to play safely and comfortably.
- Water Fountain: A water fountain is available for dogs, ensuring they can stay hydrated during their visit. Reviews indicate this fountain remains on before being shut off for winter, so seasonal users should plan accordingly.
- Waste Bag Dispensers: The park provides dog waste bags, encouraging owners to clean up after their pets immediately, which is vital for maintaining a hygienic environment.
- Trash Cans: Plenty of trash cans are available for convenient disposal of pet waste and other rubbish, contributing to the park's overall cleanliness.
- Dog Activities/Obstacles: The park includes some dog activities or obstacles, adding an extra element of engagement and challenge for the canine visitors.
Sarah’s Heart Dog Park boasts several key features that contribute to its appeal and suitability for dog owners in New Jersey.
- Dedicated Off-Leash Spaces: The core highlight is the provision of fully fenced areas where dogs can safely run off-leash, fulfilling their natural need for vigorous exercise and play.
- Size-Specific Play Zones: The clear separation into large and small dog areas is a significant benefit, creating a more comfortable and tailored experience for dogs of different sizes and temperaments.
- Ground Cover: The park utilizes "mulch" as ground cover. While some reviews note that the mulch pieces can be quite large, this type of surface can offer good drainage and is often preferred over plain dirt for reducing mud, though it can still be present.
- Accessibility and Amenities: The presence of a water fountain, waste bags, and trash cans demonstrates a commitment to providing essential amenities for convenience and responsible pet ownership.
- Double-Gated Entrance: For added safety and to prevent escapes, the park features a double-gated entrance system, ensuring dogs remain secure while entering or exiting.
- Community Integration: The park is conveniently "set to the side of Dunn Park," indicating its integration into a larger recreational complex, which may offer additional walking opportunities (on leash) nearby.
It's important for visitors to note based on reviews that there are "no benches inside the dog park," with benches located just outside the fenced areas, which may be "not super helpful" for direct supervision. Additionally, there is "limited to no shade" within the fenced areas, so owners should plan accordingly during hot weather. While human restrooms may be available in the neighboring Dunn Park, they are not directly at the dog park.
As a public municipal dog park within Carneys Point Township, Sarah’s Heart Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts. Its primary "offer" is its very existence: a free, accessible, and well-maintained public space dedicated to canine recreation. The value it provides is in the form of a vital area for safe off-leash exercise and essential socialization for the community's dogs.
However, the Carneys Point Recreation Commission and Public Works Department, along with local animal welfare organizations, may occasionally host or promote special events at or related to the dog park. These could include pet adoption drives, community clean-up days, or even fun events like the "Dog Halloween Costume Contest" that has taken place previously. For information on any such community-led initiatives, New Jersey residents are encouraged to check the official Carneys Point Township website, particularly their Recreation Commission section, or local community calendars and social media pages. These resources are the best way to stay informed about any pet-related events or programs that might be connected to the dog park.
For inquiries regarding Sarah’s Heart Dog Park, including its rules, maintenance concerns, or any operational updates, the primary contact would typically be the Carneys Point Township municipal offices or their Parks and Recreation Department.
- Address: 200 G St, Penns Grove, NJ 08069, USA (located to the side of Dunn Park)
- While a direct phone number for the dog park isn't listed, general inquiries can be directed to Carneys Point Township. Contact information for Carneys Point Township can typically be found on their official municipal website. (E.g., main municipal line might be 856-299-0070, as seen for the Township in past newsletters).
The official Carneys Point Township website is the best resource for detailed rules, hours of operation (sunrise to sunset), and any specific announcements regarding park closures for maintenance or inclement weather. Users are strongly encouraged to review the posted rules, which include requirements for dog licensing, vaccinations, age restrictions (dogs over 4 months, no females in heat), limitations on the number of dogs per handler (max 3), and guidelines regarding aggressive behavior and child safety (no children under 5, children 6-13 under strict adult supervision). No food, treats, rawhide, or toys are permitted.
Sarah’s Heart Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable and highly valued resource for local dog owners throughout New Jersey, particularly for those residing in Penns Grove, Carneys Point Township, and the broader Salem County region. Its fundamental appeal lies in providing a clearly defined, securely fenced, and managed area where dogs can safely engage in vital off-leash exercise and socialization. The thoughtful provision of separate sections for large and small dogs is a significant advantage, ensuring that pups of all sizes and temperaments can play comfortably and confidently, which is paramount for both their well-being and the peace of mind of their owners.
The park's amenities, including a water fountain, readily available waste bags, and ample trash cans, underscore a commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and maintaining a clean environment. While the mulch ground cover might have some larger pieces, it serves its purpose in providing a dedicated play surface. The presence of some agility obstacles adds an extra layer of engagement for the dogs, making visits more stimulating.
Despite minor considerations such as limited shade and benches primarily outside the fenced areas, these are often manageable with proper planning, such as bringing your own portable seating or visiting during cooler parts of the day. The park's welcoming atmosphere, often populated by friendly owners and playful dogs, contributes significantly to its suitability as a community hub for pet lovers. It provides a consistent and reliable location for dogs to burn energy and practice social skills.
In essence, Sarah’s Heart Dog Park is a vital amenity that significantly enhances the quality of life for pets and their families in South Jersey. It serves as a testament to the community's dedication to its residents, providing a functional, well-maintained, and community-oriented space where dogs can thrive and their owners can enjoy the benefits of a well-exercised and socialized companion. For any New Jersey local seeking a reliable and friendly place for their dog to romp, Sarah’s Heart Dog Park is an excellent choice.

May 03, 2025 · KodiArea is residential with some commercial. Dog park is set to the side of Dunn Park. Dog Park is two 50x100 (approx) fenced areas separated by dog size (large v small dog). There are some dog activities/obstacles. It's 'mulch,' but a lot of the mulch pieces are legit six to eight inch sticks. Water fountain - still on for now before shut off for winter. No benches inside the dog park, but a bench is just outside it (not super helpful). Limited to no shade. Large empty lot presumably for dog park parking. No human restrooms at dog park, but possibly in neighboring people park.
