Absolutely LOVE this dog park. I just moved from Ahwatukee a couple weeks ago but during the 3 years I lived there I brought my dog here several times a week and always had a great experience. They have a good amount of space to run around, there are always balls out there for them to play with and big buckets of water to drink, and there are several tables to sit down at that are shaded by a big ramada. Everybody is really good about cleaning up after their dogs and all the ppl I've met there are wonderful. Even at its busiest it never feels over-crowded. There are 2 separate gated areas, one for small dogs and one for big dogs, and they both sit in the corner of a larger grass field that is nowhere near any main roads or busy streets. Every time I took my dog there, as soon as we'd pull into the parking lot she would go crazy with excitement.. she LOVED that park and all her doggy friends there and we will both truly miss spending time there every week. I highly recommend this park to anyone wanting to take their fur babies out to play and socialize with other dogs, they'll have a blast! I would honestly give it 10 stars if I could!!🐾🐶❤ *P.S. - If your dog enjoys playing in the water and/or swimming, Google the Cosmo Dog Park in Gilbert. It's a beautiful little beach for dogs with a large pool to swim and grassy fields for them to run. You can thank me later ;-)

Location and Accessibility

RJ Dog Park is conveniently situated at 17010 S 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048, USA. This prime location places it within the larger Pecos Park complex, a well-known and easily accessible recreational area in Phoenix. Its position is particularly advantageous for residents of Ahwatukee and surrounding South Phoenix neighborhoods, making it a regular stop for many dog owners.

One of the most remarkable features of RJ Dog Park is its outstanding accessibility. The park is fully wheelchair accessible, a significant advantage that ensures everyone can enjoy this fantastic facility. It boasts four dedicated accessible parking spots and features a long, gentle ramp leading directly to the main field. Crucially, the super wide concrete sidewalk extends past the gates and into both the small and large dog park areas, eliminating the need to navigate uneven dirt or gravel paths commonly found at other dog parks. This thoughtful design makes it easy for individuals with mobility challenges, strollers, or even just heavy leashes and water bottles to move around comfortably and safely. Furthermore, the park is set in the corner of a larger grass field, well away from main roads or busy streets, enhancing the safety and peace of mind for dog owners.

Services Offered
  • Separate Gated Areas: RJ Dog Park features two distinct, fully fenced and gated areas – one specifically for small dogs and another for large dogs. This crucial separation helps ensure a safer and more comfortable play environment for all canines, allowing smaller breeds to play without intimidation and larger dogs to romp freely.
  • Water Fountains and Buckets: The park provides ample access to fresh drinking water for dogs. There are water fountains available, and visitors consistently note the presence of large buckets of water, readily available for thirsty pups. This is an essential amenity in the Arizona climate.
  • Shaded Seating: For the comfort of human companions, the park offers several tables and seating areas, many of which are generously shaded by a large ramada. This provides a welcome respite from the sun, allowing owners to relax while their dogs play.
  • Ample Running Space: With a total of two grassy acres dedicated to off-leash play, dogs have plenty of room to run, chase, and explore. Even at its busiest, the park is praised for not feeling overcrowded, ensuring dogs have sufficient space to exercise.
  • Balls and Toys Provided: Visitors frequently mention that there are always balls and toys available for dogs to play with, adding to the fun and reducing the need for owners to bring their own extensive collection.
  • Waste Disposal: The park is well-equipped with waste containers, and dog owners are consistently diligent about cleaning up after their pets, contributing to the park's excellent cleanliness. While explicit mention of "mutt mitt dispensers" isn't always highlighted, the overall cleanliness suggests they are either provided or users are very responsible in bringing their own.

Features / Highlights
  • Spacious and Well-Maintained Grass Fields: The park boasts large, well-maintained grassy fields (totaling 2 acres) that provide a comfortable and inviting surface for dogs to run and play. The lush green space is a major highlight, especially appreciated in the desert environment.
  • Community of Responsible Owners: A standout feature is the friendly and responsible community of dog owners who frequent the park. Visitors consistently report that people are excellent about cleaning up after their dogs and that the regulars are wonderful, fostering a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Secure and Safe Location: The park's placement in the corner of a larger grass field, away from main roads or busy streets, enhances safety. The fully fenced areas provide peace of mind for owners allowing their dogs to play off-leash.
  • ADA Accessible: As mentioned, the park is exceptionally wheelchair accessible, with wide concrete pathways and ramps, making it inclusive for all visitors. This is a significant advantage over many other dog parks.
  • Named in Honor of a K-9: The park is named after RJ, a Phoenix police dog who died in the line of duty, adding a meaningful layer of local significance and respect to the facility.
  • Never Feels Overcrowded: Despite its popularity, the park is designed in such a way that it rarely feels overly crowded, even during peak times. This allows dogs ample space to play freely without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Part of Pecos Park: Being a part of the larger Pecos Park means visitors can enjoy other amenities offered by the park, such as picnic areas and sports fields, before or after their dog park visit.

Excellent dog park that is fully wheelchair accessible. There are 4 accessible parking spots and a nice long ramp to the field and super wide concrete sidewalk that connects to both the small dog and large dog parks. The concrete extends in past the gates so you don't have to navigate dirt or gravel like most dog parks.

This place is great! There are two fenced dog areas, one for big dogs and one for littles. It's next to a huge field, the day I went there were tons of kids practicing football, full parking lot but it was alive and fun. There are water spouts in the dog areas.

Need to put a covet over the water spiket. Outside of that, my dogs love this park. It's clean.

This dog park is great. There are two separate areas; one for small dogs and one for big. Then there are several soccer fields too if you really want to let your dogs run around. Peocs has a ton of other Amenities as well, including a skate park, pickleball courts and basketball courts. The city does a great job keeping the grounds clean too. Love coming here with my dogs!
