We love this park! They renovated it at the end of last year and it's been such a better experience since. This park isn't the biggest one but definitely plenty of room for all the doggos, they even have a smaller area for the little ones. You can find lots of water bowls/buckets, balls, chairs/benches, and even a couple of small pools for those hotter days. Located near the zoo and not too far from the Rio Grande river. Definitely worth checking out!!

The recent renovations at Rio Grande Triangle Park have significantly improved the overall experience, drawing praise from local users. As one happy visitor shared, "We love this park! They renovated it at the end of last year and it's been such a better experience since. This park isn't the biggest one but definitely plenty of room for all the doggos, they even have a smaller area for the little ones." This sentiment is echoed by many who appreciate the enhancements, making it a comfortable and enjoyable destination for dog families. Whether your dog thrives on energetic games of fetch or prefers leisurely strolls and sniffing out new friends, Rio Grande Triangle Park provides an ideal setting for them to flourish and for you to connect with fellow dog enthusiasts.
Location and Accessibility
Rio Grande Triangle Park is strategically located at 1451 Kit Carson Ave SW, Albuquerque, NM 87104, USA. Its position within the city offers excellent accessibility for residents across Albuquerque. Being situated near prominent landmarks such as the ABQ BioPark Zoo and not too far from the scenic Rio Grande river, the park is easy to find and integrate into a day's outing. This proximity to the zoo can even make for a fun combined activity if you plan your day accordingly, though remember the park is solely for dogs!
The park benefits from Albuquerque's well-established road network, allowing for convenient drives from various neighborhoods. For those utilizing public transportation, the City of Albuquerque's ABQ Ride Connect microtransit service, recently launched in the Rio Grande and Southwest Mesa areas, could offer enhanced accessibility to the vicinity. Additionally, Rio Metro buses are wheelchair accessible and can accommodate service animals, which may provide options for reaching the park's general area. While direct bus stops at the park's entrance might not be specified, its location within an established part of the city suggests reasonable connectivity. Free parking is typically available nearby, adding to the convenience for those driving.
Services Offered
Rio Grande Triangle Park goes beyond being just an open space, offering several valuable services and amenities that cater to the needs of both dogs and their owners:
- Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: A key feature of the park is its division into distinct, fenced sections for different dog sizes. This separation allows smaller, more timid dogs to play safely without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous canines, and vice versa.
- Water Amenities: The park provides multiple water bowls/buckets, and a water fountain for dogs, ensuring that pups stay hydrated, especially crucial during New Mexico's warmer days. While one review noted a water fountain temporarily being inoperable, the general provision of water is a significant service.
- Seating Areas: Numerous chairs and benches are available throughout the park, offering comfortable spots for owners to relax, observe their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents.
- Waste Management: Trash cans are provided for dog waste, encouraging responsible pet ownership and helping to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the park. Some reviews also mention poop bags being provided, adding to the convenience.
- Small Pools for Hotter Days: For those particularly warm New Mexico afternoons, the park offers a couple of small pools where dogs can cool off, a delightful and appreciated amenity.
Features / Highlights
Rio Grande Triangle Park is distinguished by several features that make it a standout choice for local dog owners:
- Recent Renovations: As noted by visitors, the park underwent renovations at the end of last year, significantly enhancing the user experience. These improvements likely include updated fencing, seating, and potentially the ground surfacing.
- Sufficient Space for Play: Despite not being the absolute largest park in Albuquerque, it offers "plenty of room for all the doggos," indicating ample space for dogs to run, play fetch, and engage in vigorous exercise.
- Mix of Ground Surfaces: The park reportedly features a mix of artificial turf and mulch on the ground, offering varied textures for paws. While some older reviews mention dirt and worn turf, the recent renovations suggest ongoing improvements to the surfacing.
- Shaded Areas: The presence of a "shady area" provides crucial relief from the intense New Mexico sun, making the park more comfortable for visits during peak hours.
- Double-Gated Entry: For enhanced safety and security, the park is equipped with a double-gated entrance, reducing the risk of dogs accidentally escaping.
- Located Near Attractions: Its proximity to the ABQ BioPark Zoo and the Rio Grande river adds to its appeal, allowing for potential combined outings in the area.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a public park managed by the City of Albuquerque, Rio Grande Triangle Park does not typically run commercial promotions or offer discounts in the traditional sense. Its "offer" to the community is a well-maintained, free, and accessible space for dog recreation. However, being a community park, it may occasionally host or be the venue for special, pet-related events organized by local animal welfare groups, rescue organizations, or community associations. These could include adoption events, pet health clinics, dog training workshops, or community clean-up days. Any such events would generally be publicized through the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department's official channels, local community calendars, or social media groups dedicated to Albuquerque pet owners. For current information on potential community events at Rio Grande Triangle Park, it is advisable for locals to check the City of Albuquerque's Parks and Recreation website or contact them directly. The inherent value of the park lies in its continuous provision of a high-quality, free amenity for the enjoyment of local dogs and their owners.

Aug 01, 2024 · Javier RasconHas a small and large dog park. Mostly large dogs come here. It’s a decent park, there’s mulch on the ground and water fountain for dogs that is currently not operable. It is in a shady area so just be careful if you come late. Near BioZoo park.
Apr 30, 2025 · KristinaWe're visiting with my dog from the midwest. The dog park was pretty nice except that there was no grass and the turf was pretty worn. I liked the walking path along the outer edge of the park for humans and dogs alike. There was only one picnic table under shade but otherwise benches and plastic outdoor chairs are strewn throughout for extra seating. There's a water fountain for humans and dogs, and also a baby pool by the spigot to keep the pups cool. There was one unruly dog there but people seemed to keep their pets in check for the most part. The latches on the gates are also a very efficient way to secure the park without much chance of damage, unlike other parks I've been to.
Sep 12, 2023 · MelindaMy dog and I were promptly welcomed by 2-leggeds as well as 4-leggeds. One dog quickly invited my dog to play, and another dog asked me to play with her. They even had a plastic pool for dogs to jump in. The area is very clean. There is one area that has wood chips and another area with carpet grass. There is a lot of foliage as well. Additionally, there are several chairs and benches for sitting.
May 23, 2025 · Jennifer Jordan (Jen)Park is great for dogs and puppies. The place is big enough for your pet to enjoy. Plenty of space to run around and meet other dogs and puppies. You can walk around as well and watch your dog or puppy at the same time.
