Our Golden Retriever had a jolly good time, she enjoyed meeting new friends, and the kiddie pool! Although she was not able to use any of the fun activities shown here, because the equipment is for 25 pounds or less dogs.

Welcome to Ouray Dog Park
Introduction / Overview
For dog owners across Albuquerque, New Mexico, finding a spacious and well-equipped environment where their canine companions can freely run, play, and socialize is a true treasure. Ouray Dog Park, located in the scenic northwestern part of the city, stands out as a highly popular destination, offering ample room and thoughtful amenities for both dogs and their human counterparts. This expansive off-leash park is designed to provide a safe and engaging experience, making it a beloved spot for the local pet community. It's more than just a fenced area; it's a vibrant gathering place where dog parents can connect, share experiences, and witness the joyous interactions of their furry family members.
Ouray Dog Park is often praised for its size and the sense of freedom it offers. As one delighted visitor shared, "Our Golden Retriever had a jolly good time, she enjoyed meeting new friends, and the kiddie pool!" This sentiment captures the essence of the park's appeal – a place where dogs can truly be dogs. While some agility equipment may be geared towards smaller dogs, the overall vastness and specific amenities cater to a wide range of canine needs and preferences. Whether your pup is an energetic adventurer ready to explore or a more laid-back social butterfly, Ouray Dog Park provides an ideal environment to enjoy the beautiful New Mexico weather and forge new friendships.
Location and Accessibility
Ouray Dog Park is conveniently situated at 7500 Ouray Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120, USA. This location places it within the Ladera West neighborhood, making it easily accessible for residents on Albuquerque's west side and beyond. Its proximity to other recreational areas, including disc golf courses, adds to its appeal as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts, though it also means parking can sometimes be shared.
Accessing the park involves a mix of paved roads and, for the large dog park parking, a "bumpy dirt road" to the left of the main park entrance. Small dog parking seems to be "just dirt parking off to the right." This is an important detail for visitors to note, especially concerning vehicle suitability and potential dust. The general area is well-connected by Albuquerque's road network, allowing for straightforward drives. While specific public transportation routes directly to the park are not detailed, the City of Albuquerque's ABQ Ride system provides services throughout the city, and local area connections may be available. Ample parking, even if partially unpaved, is a significant convenience for those driving, which is the most common mode of transport for park visitors.
Services Offered
Ouray Dog Park provides a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors, both two-legged and four-legged:
- Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: The park is thoughtfully divided into two distinct, fully fenced sections, catering to different dog sizes. While signs may not always explicitly state "small" and "large," this separation is a crucial service for promoting safe and appropriate play interactions.
- Water Access: Both the large and small dog sections are equipped with water sources, including a "water pump" and a "water fountain for dogs," ensuring that pups can stay hydrated, particularly vital during Albuquerque's dry climate and warm days. Some sources also mention "dog dish available."
- Kiddie Pools: A delightful addition, the park features small "kiddie pools" where dogs can cool off and splash around, a highly appreciated amenity during warmer weather.
- Ample Seating: The park offers "ample seating for owners," with numerous benches and chairs available throughout both sections, allowing human companions to relax and observe their pets comfortably.
- Waste Stations: Ouray Dog Park includes convenient "waste stations" with "trash bags and a big bin" for dog waste, encouraging responsible pet ownership and contributing to the cleanliness of the park.
- Shelters: The park features shelters, providing shaded areas for both dogs and owners, which is particularly beneficial under the New Mexico sun.
- Agility Equipment: While primarily for smaller dogs (under 25 pounds, as noted by one reviewer), the park has "agility training pieces" or "obstacle courses," offering additional enrichment and exercise opportunities for specific dogs.
- Double-Gated Entrances: For enhanced safety and security, both the large and small dog areas feature double-gated entry systems, minimizing the risk of dogs escaping accidentally.
Features / Highlights
Ouray Dog Park is distinguished by several key features that contribute to its status as a top dog park in Albuquerque:
- Expansive Size: The park is described as "very large" with "plenty of room for all the doggos," providing ample space for dogs to run, play, and engage in high-energy activities.
- Thoughtful Sectioning: The clear separation into large and small dog areas, even if not explicitly signed, is a significant highlight for responsible dog owners concerned about safe play.
- Abundant Water Facilities: The provision of multiple water sources and kiddie pools is a major draw, especially in Albuquerque's arid climate, ensuring dogs remain hydrated and cool.
- Comfort for Owners: With "ample seating," shelters, and waste stations, the park prioritizes the comfort and convenience of human visitors, making it an enjoyable outing for the whole family.
- Mulch/Gravel Ground Cover: The ground inside the park is largely covered with mulch or small rocks/gravel. While this might be a con for some, it helps with drainage and cleanliness, preventing muddy conditions.
- Scenic Views: Situated in the beautiful landscape of Albuquerque, the park often offers "stunning views" (especially during winter months, as noted for a similar park, suggesting general area beauty), enhancing the outdoor experience.
- Community Atmosphere: The park is a natural hub for dog lovers, fostering a friendly environment where owners "enjoyed meeting new friends" and connecting with fellow pet parents.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a public park managed by the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department, Ouray Dog Park does not offer commercial promotions, discounts, or special offers to the public in a retail sense. Its primary "offer" is the provision of a free, well-maintained, and expansive off-leash environment for the community's dogs and their owners. However, like other city parks, Ouray Dog Park can serve as a venue for various community-driven, pet-related events or initiatives. These might include adoption drives hosted by local shelters, pet health clinics, responsible pet ownership workshops, or even community clean-up days organized by volunteer groups. Such events, while not "promotions," add significant value to the park's utility for local residents. Information about any upcoming community gatherings or special activities at Ouray Dog Park would typically be announced through official City of Albuquerque channels, such as their Parks and Recreation website, local community calendars, or social media groups dedicated to Albuquerque pet owners. For the most up-to-date information, it is always recommended to check these official sources.

Apr 28, 2024 · Scott HoffmanThe Quray dog park parking for large dogs is a small area to the left of the park after a bumpy dirt road. Small dog parking seems to just be dirt parking off to the right. The dog park is very large with ample seating for owners. This dog park is split in two, one for small dogs and one for large dogs even though the signs don't mention it. Both had water, and double gated entrances. The park may also share parking with disc golf so it's a little hard to figure how many people are there by cars.
Oct 07, 2022 · Shawn LintonWorth stopping at if in the area. There are two sections of the dog park, both big enough for the dogs to enjoy and run. All dogs seemed friendly. There was also several spots of water which was nice. One side has a decent amount of shade if your pups wants to take a rest.
Nov 28, 2021 · Joseph K.Decent dog park. Was confused at the two sides.. the larger space with all the agility equipment listed the side as being for small dogs but the smaller space with less room for a big dog to run was used for the larger dogs. Ground covered with wood chips / dirt and required a raking to level it out a little. However the dog park was clean and other owners were friendly.
Feb 11, 2018 · KimberlyGreat place! More like two large dog parks next to each other. Has pools that can be filled up for the dogs to swim in, has a small dog area and a large dog area. There is also an agility course with Sun umbrellas, and trees. The park is mostly bark, but it is a little dusty dirty. Definitely a good spot to come with the woof woofs!
