5/13 & 5/16/21: First of all: Where is this dog park you ask? Drive to the end of University towards the Thomas Bell Community Center. Look for a stop sign, then turn right. I recommend using this address (3001 University Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106). Drive downhill about 750ft and dog park is on the left side. Interesting dog park; 3 sections that go uphill. My dogs thought they were in a maze but enjoyed the separate areas. First visit there was a lot of poop. Return visit, less dog poop in areas. Thank you pet parents! The human park is very nice and so green. People were walking, enjoying the beautiful weather and I didn't see any dog poop in the areas I was in. Bring a blanket and your picnic basket and go enjoy yourself!

Kirtland Dog Park is located at 2903 University Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, USA. However, to help first-time visitors, a more precise navigation tip is to "Drive to the end of University towards the Thomas Bell Community Center. Look for a stop sign, then turn right." An alternative, highly recommended address for GPS is 3001 University Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. From there, you "Drive downhill about 750ft and dog park is on the left side."
This location, while initially requiring specific directions, places it within a broader park area that includes the Thomas Bell Community Center, implying good general accessibility within this part of Albuquerque. Being situated in a city that prides itself on being "so dog friendly with at least 5 dog parks," Kirtland Dog Park benefits from the city's overall infrastructure for pet owners. Ample parking is usually available in the vicinity of community centers and parks, making it convenient for those driving to the location.
Kirtland Dog Park provides a range of services designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable off-leash experience for dogs and their owners:
- Fully fenced enclosure: This is a critical service, offering a secure environment where dogs can play freely without the risk of wandering off, providing peace of mind for owners.
- Multi-section play areas: The park features "3 sections that go uphill," allowing for varied play dynamics and offering different spaces for dogs to explore and interact. This can also help to naturally separate play groups or allow for more independent exploration.
- Designated off-leash zones: The primary purpose is to offer a legal and safe space for dogs to be off-leash, which is vital for their physical and mental stimulation.
- Cleanliness efforts: While initial visits might sometimes find areas needing attention, the park benefits from responsible pet parents and city maintenance, with reviews noting "less dog poop in areas" on return visits and appreciation for a "very clean and well kept" human park nearby. This indicates a community effort to maintain hygiene.
- Proximity to green spaces: The dog park is adjacent to human park areas that are "very nice and so green," providing a pleasant overall environment for a family outing, even if the dog park itself is primarily dirt.
Kirtland Dog Park boasts several unique features that make it a compelling choice for dog owners in New Mexico:
- Unique multi-tiered design: The "3 sections that go uphill" create an "interesting dog park" that resembles a "maze" for dogs. This varied terrain offers a more stimulating environment than flat parks, encouraging dogs to climb, explore, and get a more diverse workout.
- Fenced for security: The entire dog park is "fully-fenced," ensuring a safe and contained area for off-leash play, which is a top priority for responsible dog owners.
- Separate areas (implied by sections): While not explicitly designated as "small dog/large dog" sections, the multiple tiers can naturally create different play zones, allowing dogs to choose their preferred level of activity and interaction.
- Community responsibility in cleanliness: Visitors highlight the improved cleanliness, thanking "pet parents" for picking up after their dogs. This indicates a good community of users committed to maintaining the park's quality.
- Integration with a beautiful larger park: The dog park is part of a bigger complex that features "very nice and so green" human park areas, suitable for walking, picnicking, and enjoying the weather. This allows for a full day out for the entire family.

Mar 19, 2022 · LivingitNice park. Good amount of space. Places to sit that are covered and they provide dog bags for your dogs poo
Mar 07, 2025 · Daniel ChavezAlbuquerques newest dog park. So I have visited there twice both times in the evening. it has great views is large enough for big dogs to open up and run. There is no little dog section. The park does have covered benches but it's new so the trees that will provide Shade in the future are small. I suggest wearing a hat, sunblock, or just go early morning or late evening. Also bring lots of water and a bowl there is not water in this park sadly.
May 01, 2018 · Angelo MitchellThis use to be a great park to take the dogs but i guess the city has forgotten about it. It's infested with weeds and not taken care of. My dogs kept get huge stickers in their feet so unfortunately weve stopped going
