A nice expensive dog park located and easily accessible from 12th St. The directions take you to the main big park entrance on Robinson, but don’t use those because you cannot get to the dog park from there. You need to enter at the stoplight where 12th St. and Highland Meadows Drive are. That brings you straight into the dog park area. The dog park has three large paddocks. One for small dogs and one for large dogs that also opens up into a section area. There are no restroom facilities here. There is a pond across the parking lotthat many people take the dogs to go swimming in. And that is allowed. Really not a bad place at all. There are plenty of benches around the park, including some that are in the shade. There is water for the dogs though apparently it gets turned off when it gets too cold.

The Norman Community Dog Park, nestled within the broader Griffin Park, is a testament to thoughtful planning, designed to cater to a variety of canine needs. It features multiple spacious paddocks, ensuring that dogs of all sizes can play comfortably and safely. As one delighted visitor noted, despite being "expensive" (likely referring to the investment in the park rather than a fee, as it's typically free), it's "really not a bad place at all." This sentiment highlights the park's value to the community, providing a clean and well-maintained space that promotes both canine well-being and human connection. While navigating to the correct entrance is crucial for first-time visitors, once there, the benefits become immediately clear.

We'll cover its specific location and the best ways to access it, delve into the various services and features it offers, discuss any unique aspects like the nearby pond, and provide essential contact information. By the end, Oklahoma locals will have a clear understanding of why this dog park is an ideal spot for their beloved four-legged family members to enjoy the outdoors.
Location and Accessibility
The Norman Community Dog Park is conveniently located in Norman, Oklahoma, a city well-known for its vibrant community and university atmosphere. The park's address is High Meadows Dr, Norman, OK 73071, USA. However, it's crucial for first-time visitors to note a specific access point, as directions to the "main big park entrance on Robinson" will not lead directly to the dog park.
To ensure easy access, users should "enter at the stoplight where 12th St. and Highland Meadows Drive are. That brings you straight into the dog park area." This precise entry point simplifies navigation and gets you directly to the dedicated dog park facilities. The park is part of the larger Griffin Community Park.
The park boasts extensive operating hours, often listed as "open 24 hours," providing exceptional flexibility for dog owners to visit at their convenience, from early morning to late evening. This accessibility is a major advantage for busy schedules. As a publicly accessible park, it typically offers free entry and free parking nearby, making it an inclusive option for all Norman residents. The park is also described as being "wheelchair accessible" in some sources, further enhancing its inclusivity.
Services Offered
Norman Community Dog Park provides a range of essential services and amenities designed to cater to the needs of canine companions and their owners.
- Three Large Paddocks: The park features three spacious, fully fenced paddocks. This ample space allows dogs to run, sprint, and play freely without the restriction of a leash, providing vital exercise and mental stimulation.
- Separate Areas for Large and Small Dogs: A crucial safety and comfort feature, the park includes clearly defined and separate sections for large dogs (typically over 30 lbs) and small dogs (typically 30 lbs and under). One of the large dog sections also "opens up into a section area," potentially offering more versatility or space for specific play groups. This separation ensures appropriate interactions and reduces stress for all canines.
- Water for Dogs: The park provides water for dogs via water fountains, ensuring they can stay hydrated during their active playtime. However, it's important to note that "apparently it gets turned off when it gets too cold," so owners should be prepared with their own water during colder months.
- Plenty of Benches, Including Shade: Comfortable seating is available throughout the park, including benches that are "in the shade." This allows owners to relax, observe their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents comfortably, even on sunny days.
- Waste Disposal: While not explicitly detailed, standard dog park amenities usually include trash cans and often poop bags, as mentioned by a reviewer, encouraging owners to clean up after their pets and maintain the park's cleanliness.
- Access to Nearby Pond for Swimming: Across the parking lot from the dog park lies a pond, often referred to as Griffin Park Pond, where "many people take the dogs to go swimming in." This is "allowed" and offers a fantastic additional recreational opportunity for water-loving dogs. Note that dogs should be leashed when walking to and from the pond.
Features / Highlights
Norman Community Dog Park boasts several key features and highlights that make it a standout destination for dog owners in Oklahoma.
- Expansive and Secure: With three large, fully fenced paddocks, the park offers substantial space for dogs to play, ensuring both extensive exercise opportunities and the safety of off-leash containment.
- Unique Water Access: The nearby Griffin Park Pond provides a rare and highly valued opportunity for dogs to swim and cool off, adding a unique dimension to the park experience, especially during warmer weather.
- Thoughtful Design: The clear separation of large and small dog areas, along with ample shaded seating, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to accommodating the needs of various dog types and their owners.
- Agility Obstacles: Some reviews mention the presence of "some obstacles for dogs to climb & play on," indicating that the park offers more than just open space, providing opportunities for agility and enrichment.
- Community Vibe: The park is described as a place where owners "always meet different dogs as well as see 'regulars'," fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for new and returning visitors.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: Reviewers often praise the park as being "large & well maintained," indicating a commitment from the city or community to keeping the facilities in good condition.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a public, municipal park, the Norman Community Dog Park does not typically run commercial promotions or discounts. Its primary "offer" is its free public access and the quality of its amenities.
- Free Public Access: The most significant "promotion" is that the dog park is entirely free to use for all licensed and vaccinated dogs and their owners. This makes it an invaluable, accessible recreational option for the Norman community.
- Community Events: While the dog park itself may not host many specific events, the larger Griffin Community Park is known for various community activities, such as the "yearly Fishing derby for youth" mentioned in a review. Dog owners can often find other park-wide events that may be dog-friendly, though dogs should remain on-leash outside the designated off-leash area.
- Ongoing Maintenance and Improvements: The fact that the park is described as "well maintained" and has features like water fountains, along with the allowance for pond access, indicates an ongoing commitment by the City of Norman to provide a high-quality facility for its residents.

Nov 22, 2024 · David Kravetz (Sumoflam)This is actually Griffin Park Pond which is across from the dog park. We attended a yearly Fishing derby for youth on Saturday June 1st 2024. 🙂
Jun 01, 2024 · Julie EvansMy pup & I love this place! It's well maintained & very safe! Only had an experience with a dog fight once, but it was handled quickly by the owners. Great place to get your dog some exercise, also a great place for a walk around the pond!
Dec 13, 2018 · Belle VilletWe enjoy taking our dog here, but it's I imagine it's much like taking your child to Reeves park, "play at your own risk" 😳🤗 Everyone raises a dog differently! They have three areas; two for the larger dogs, which they rotate usage and one for smaller dogs. They have a water pump and stainless steel bowls and a kiddie pool out there for the pups. They took the swing out though. 😞 large parking lot along the park and extra parking toward the front, not too much shade or seating inside.
Sep 23, 2017 · Caitlin LongmanThis dog park is a nice space for the pups to play and run off some energy. The city (usually) does a good job of maintaining it and keeping it stocked with poop bags. There are a few benches to sit on, scattered throughout. The city has planted more trees recently, and it will be a pleasure to watch them grow. My biggest complaints would be that there is no running water during the winter months, and we really do need a bigger park for the amount of dogs in the city! It would also be great if there were some sort of facilities close by. The dogs can go wherever they want, but the poor humans can't!
