We went to this park for a beagle meet up. To start there's no parking. There is a area before the park which is kinda close.we ended up parking at the baseball field down the street. We followed the trail to the park. It's a large park but is not divided by a large and small dog side. So be warned if you have a small dog. Water and doggie poop bags are available. It's a shame that there is no grass,it's mostly dirt and weeds.

Welcome, California dog enthusiasts! If you're a resident of the beautiful Los Altos Hills area or the wider Silicon Valley, you know how crucial it is to find expansive, natural spaces where your beloved canine companion can truly stretch their legs and embrace their playful spirit. The Los Altos Hills Dog Park, nestled at 27500 Purissima Rd, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022, USA, offers just such a retreat. This park provides a generous off-leash environment that is appreciated by many local dog owners looking for a more natural setting for their pups' adventures.
The Los Altos Hills Dog Park is renowned for its sheer size and the feeling of freedom it offers. Unlike many urban dog parks, this location provides ample room for dogs to run, explore, and socialize in a less confined setting. While it may not feature artificial turf or elaborate structures, its natural beauty and vastness are its greatest assets. As one happy visitor noted, "The girls loved running around here!" This article will guide you through the various aspects of the Los Altos Hills Dog Park, detailing its location, the essential amenities it provides, its unique features, and why it continues to be a go-to spot for many Bay Area dog owners.
We understand that your dog's happiness and well-being are a top priority, and that finding the right environment for their exercise and social needs is key. The Los Altos Hills Dog Park, with its open spaces and rustic charm, offers a different kind of dog park experience—one that emphasizes natural play and extensive exploration. So, whether you're planning a visit with a high-energy hound or a social butterfly, get ready to learn more about why this dog park might just become your new favorite local escape for your furry friend.
The Los Altos Hills Dog Park is located at 27500 Purissima Rd, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022, USA. This address places it within the scenic Los Altos Hills area, known for its rolling landscapes and rural feel, even amidst the bustling Bay Area. The park is nestled in a more secluded, natural setting, which contributes to its appeal for those seeking a less urbanized dog park experience.
Accessibility to the Los Altos Hills Dog Park primarily relies on driving, given its location within Los Altos Hills. While the park itself doesn't have a large, dedicated parking lot directly at the entrance, there are options available. As one visitor mentioned, "To start there's no parking. There is a area before the park which is kinda close. we ended up parking at the baseball field down the street." This suggests that while direct, immediate parking might be limited, alternative parking can be found nearby, such as at a baseball field down the street, which then requires a short walk via a trail to reach the dog park. This walk can be part of the adventure, offering a chance to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. For those relying on public transportation, Los Altos Hills is generally less served by extensive public transit routes compared to denser urban centers. Therefore, driving or being dropped off would be the most practical ways to access this particular dog park. The slightly more challenging parking situation is often seen as a minor trade-off for the park's expansive and natural environment, making it a destination for those who prioritize space and a rustic feel over immediate convenience.
The Los Altos Hills Dog Park provides several key services designed to facilitate a pleasant and responsible off-leash experience for dogs and their owners:
-
Large, Unfenced Off-Leash Area: The primary service is providing a vast, designated area where dogs can run freely without a leash. While some visitors note it "is not divided by a large and small dog side," the sheer size often allows for different play dynamics to coexist. This expansive space is ideal for high-energy dogs.
-
Water Access: Crucially, "Water... are available." This ensures that dogs can stay hydrated during their play sessions, especially important on warmer California days. It's always a good idea for owners to bring their own portable bowls, though sometimes communal bowls might be present.
-
Doggie Poop Bags: The park makes "doggie poop bags are available," promoting responsible waste disposal and helping to keep the park clean for all users. Waste receptacles are also typically present.
-
Adjacent Walking Trails: While not part of the off-leash area, the park benefits from "a beautiful walking trail behind it as well." This provides an additional amenity for owners who wish to extend their walk or offer their dogs a leashed cool-down after off-leash play.
-
Natural Environment: The park offers a less manicured, more natural setting, allowing dogs to engage with varied terrain and natural elements.
The Los Altos Hills Dog Park stands out for several features that make it appealing to many local dog owners, while also having some characteristics to be aware of:
-
Expansive Open Space: A major highlight is that it's a "large park." This offers ample room for dogs to run at full speed, play fetch over long distances, and explore without feeling confined. This vastness is a significant draw for owners of high-energy dogs who need more than a small, fenced enclosure.
-
Natural Vibe and Greenery: Despite one review mentioning "mostly dirt and weeds," another stated, "There are very few Dog Parks around that still have some greenery for the pups to play around in. Fresh water and beautiful vibe." This suggests areas of natural growth and a generally pleasant, organic atmosphere, which many prefer over artificial turf or entirely barren landscapes. The "beautiful vibe" indicates a peaceful and enjoyable setting.
-
Scenic Surroundings and Trails: The presence of "a beautiful walking trail behind it as well" is a significant bonus. This allows for extended outdoor activities and provides a picturesque backdrop for dog walks. The natural setting means dogs and owners can enjoy the beauty of Los Altos Hills.
-
Community Hub for Meetups: The park is clearly suitable for larger group gatherings, as indicated by a "beagle meet up." Its size makes it ideal for organized dog breed meetups or larger playdates, fostering a strong sense of community among dog owners.
-
Essential Amenities Provided: The availability of "Water and doggie poop bags" ensures that basic needs for dogs are met and promotes responsible pet ownership, making it easier for owners to maintain cleanliness.
-
Unfenced (for some, a highlight; for others, a consideration): While not having a division for large and small dogs is a point of caution for owners of smaller breeds ("So be warned if you have a small dog"), the unfenced or broadly open nature of the "large park" itself is a highlight for those who prefer their dogs to roam freely without barriers, as long as they have good recall. Owners should always ensure their dog has reliable recall in an open environment.
As a public park facility operated by the local government (presumably the City of Los Altos Hills or a county parks department), the Los Altos Hills Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional business sense, such as discounts, loyalty programs, or seasonal sales. Its primary "offer" to the community is providing a free, accessible, and maintained natural space for dog exercise and socialization, which is a valuable public service in the California Bay Area.
However, local pet-related businesses, such as pet stores, grooming salons, or dog training schools in Los Altos Hills, Los Altos, or nearby communities like Mountain View, may occasionally run their own promotions or host events that align with visits to local dog parks. These might include pop-up clinics, adoption events, or special training sessions held off-site but promoted to local dog owners. Dog owners in California are always encouraged to check community bulletin boards, local pet shop announcements, or the official website of the City of Los Altos Hills (or its Parks and Recreation Department, if applicable) for any upcoming dog-related events, workshops, or community initiatives. These could indirectly enhance the experience of using the Los Altos Hills Dog Park by fostering a healthy and engaged pet community in the region.

For general inquiries regarding the Los Altos Hills Dog Park, or to report any maintenance concerns or inquire about park regulations, it is best to contact the City of Los Altos Hills Public Works or Parks and Recreation Department. While no direct phone number for the dog park is available from the provided information, the general contact number for the City of Los Altos Hills main services is typically found on their official website (losaltoshills.ca.gov). This website would also be the primary source for the most up-to-date information on park hours, rules, and any special announcements.
The Los Altos Hills Dog Park is a particularly suitable destination for locals in the California Bay Area, especially those residing in Los Altos Hills and surrounding communities. Its appeal lies in its unique blend of expansive natural space and essential amenities, catering to the needs of active dogs and their owners.
Firstly, the sheer "large" size of the park is a significant draw. In a densely populated region like the Bay Area, finding vast open spaces where dogs can truly run freely and exert themselves is increasingly rare. This park provides that vital opportunity for high-energy breeds and dogs who simply love to sprint and explore, contributing immensely to their physical health and mental stimulation. The natural, unmanicured feel, with its "greenery" and "beautiful vibe," offers a refreshing alternative to more urban, paved dog runs, allowing dogs to engage with a more natural environment.
Secondly, the provision of basic, yet crucial, amenities like "water and doggie poop bags" demonstrates a commitment to responsible dog ownership and user convenience. This thoughtfulness ensures that owners can easily keep their dogs hydrated and maintain the cleanliness of the park, fostering a more pleasant experience for everyone. The presence of "a beautiful walking trail behind it as well" further enhances its suitability, offering options for extended walks in a scenic setting after off-leash playtime.
While the lack of a separate small dog area and the "no parking" situation (requiring parking down the street) are considerations for some, many locals find these minor inconveniences outweighed by the overall benefits. The park's ability to host larger "beagle meet up" events highlights its capacity to serve as a community hub, allowing dog owners to connect and their pets to socialize extensively. For residents who prioritize vast open spaces, a natural setting, and a place where their dog can truly roam without feeling restricted, Los Altos Hills Dog Park is an ideal choice. It offers a vital escape from urban density, providing a rustic and invigorating environment that fosters happy, healthy California pups and their appreciative owners.

Nov 17, 2024 · wayne tindallFound my new favorite Dog Park. There are very few Dog Parks around that still have some greenery for the pups to play around in. Fresh water and beautiful vibe. The girls loved running around here! There's a beautiful walking trail behind it as well!
Mar 17, 2024 · Anne CarrIf you’re heading south, there’s a small parking lot past the park and small trek back on the path. Simple. Had fresh water and poop bags. It could use a mow as some of the weeds are getting long and found a couple of hitch hikers on my socks afterwards. We were just swinging through on a roadtrip so it’s all we needed.
May 11, 2025 · Jadee SYou have to go past the park and there is parking space up the road. The dog area is fenced, my dog enjoyed himself safely for long enough to wear him out. There was no one else there all the time we were there.
Dec 29, 2024 · RavenRiderOverall, perfectly reasonable dog park. It is fenced in, and there is water and places for humans to sit. All very good things! It is on a hill, and parking is minimal/hard to find. And there are a lot of bikes that go by on the street next to it, so if your dog is bike reactive, not the best one to go to.
