A nice sized, fenced dog park with a separate area for small dogs. There are dog water fountains on both sides, so no messy dog bowls lying around. Plenty of parking. Be aware that Shoreline Park itself is NOT dog friendly, nor are dogs allowed down the path to the Bayshore trail.

Welcome to City of Mountain View Dog Park
For dog owners across California's vibrant Bay Area, particularly those in Mountain View, finding a dedicated, safe, and enjoyable space for their canine companions to run free is a top priority. The City of Mountain View Dog Park, often referred to as the Shoreline Dog Park due to its proximity to Shoreline Boulevard, stands out as an exceptional amenity. This park offers a fantastic solution for active pups and their human companions, providing a well-designed environment where dogs can socialize, exercise, and truly thrive off-leash.
This facility is more than just a fenced-in area; it's a thoughtfully planned space that caters to the diverse needs of the local canine population. With distinct zones for different dog sizes and convenient amenities, it has become a cherished spot for many Floridians (Correction: Californians) seeking a high-quality outdoor experience for their pets. The City of Mountain View Dog Park reflects the community's commitment to providing excellent recreational opportunities for its four-legged residents, making it a go-to destination for daily outings and weekend adventures.
The City of Mountain View Dog Park is conveniently located at the intersection of N Shoreline Blvd & North Rd, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. While it is situated near the popular Shoreline Park, it's crucial to note that the dog park is specifically designated for off-leash play, and Shoreline Park itself is generally not dog-friendly (with exceptions for service animals), and dogs are not allowed on its main paths or trails. This distinction makes the dedicated dog park even more valuable for local pet owners.
Accessibility to the dog park is excellent, with "plenty of parking" available in an adjacent lot. If this main lot is full, additional free parking can be found in the Crittenden Lot, located directly across North Road. This ample parking makes it easy for visitors to bring their dogs to the park. For those arriving on foot or by bicycle, the park remains accessible even during events at the nearby Shoreline Amphitheatre, although the parking lot may close at 3 PM on show days. Owners must ensure their dogs are leashed when outside the gated area of the dog park, including in the parking lot and walking to and from their vehicles.
The City of Mountain View Dog Park is meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive and comfortable experience for both dogs and their owners, offering several key services and amenities:
- Fully Fenced Off-Leash Area: The entire dog park is securely fenced, providing a safe and contained environment where dogs can run freely and play without leashes.
- Separate Small and Large Dog Sections: A standout feature is the provision of distinct, fenced-off areas for small dogs (typically under 25 pounds) and larger dogs. This separation enhances safety and allows dogs to play with companions of similar size and energy levels. Reviewers specifically praise the "covering between the small/large dog fence" for helping with "fence frustration" in reactive dogs.
- Dog Drinking Water Fountains: To ensure dogs stay hydrated, especially during warmer weather, the park provides multiple dog water fountains on both sides of the park, eliminating the need for owners to bring and manage messy dog bowls.
- Waste Bag Dispensers: "Every station had bags," indicating a consistent effort to provide dog waste bags, encouraging responsible cleanup and maintaining the cleanliness of the park.
- Ample Seating: Benches and seating areas, including a "shade structure," are strategically placed throughout both sections of the park, allowing owners to comfortably relax and supervise their pets.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: The park is consistently described as "well maintained," with no reported holes in the fences, contributing to a secure and pleasant environment.
- Accessible Hours: The park is open daily from 6:00 AM until 30 minutes after sunset, offering flexible hours for visitors to enjoy.
- Quiet Environment (Early Morning): For dogs sensitive to noise, the park is "rarely used in early morning," and cars driving by are "fairly slow/quiet," making it less stressful for dogs sensitive to traffic.
The City of Mountain View Dog Park boasts several impressive features that make it a premier destination for dog owners:
- Dedicated Separation for Dog Sizes: The distinct and well-designed areas for small and large dogs are a significant highlight. This thoughtful separation is crucial for the safety and comfort of all dogs, particularly for reactive or timid canines, as noted by a user with a "reactive dog" who found the separation helpful.
- Reliable Water Access: The presence of multiple, working dog water fountains is a major convenience, ensuring dogs have constant access to fresh water without the need for shared bowls.
- Consistent Supply of Waste Bags: The fact that "every station had bags" points to excellent maintenance and a strong emphasis on cleanliness, promoting a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
- Ample and Free Parking: "Plenty of parking" directly adjacent to the park, with additional free options, makes access incredibly easy and stress-free for visitors.
- Secure Fencing: The "great fully fenced dog park" with no reported "holes in the fence" ensures a secure environment, giving owners peace of mind while their dogs play off-leash.
- Calm Early Morning Environment: For owners with dogs sensitive to noise or crowds, the early morning hours offer a peaceful experience, with slow-moving traffic outside the park.
- Community Focused: The park fosters a positive atmosphere, with reviewers noting the "wonderful" behavior of other dog owners and their dogs, contributing to a friendly and welcoming community.
It is important for visitors to remember to bring their own dog toys and bowls, as these are not typically left in the park for health and safety reasons, and any left behind are disposed of by city staff. There is also a "limit of 3 dogs per person," ensuring responsible supervision.
As a public park operated by the City of Mountain View Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Mountain View Dog Park does not typically offer commercial promotions, discounts, or special offers. Access to the park and its various amenities is free for the public, consistent with its role as a valuable community resource.
However, the City of Mountain View Parks and Recreation Department, along with local animal welfare organizations, frequently hosts a variety of community events across its extensive park system. These might include pet adoption drives, responsible pet ownership workshops, or larger community festivals that are pet-friendly. While these events may not take place directly at the City of Mountain View Dog Park itself, they contribute to Mountain View's vibrant pet-friendly culture and offer additional opportunities for dog owners to engage with the community and access valuable resources. Californians interested in supporting or participating in such city-wide or regional pet-centric initiatives should regularly consult the official website of the City of Mountain View Parks and Recreation Department or local community event calendars for announcements.

Jan 11, 2025 · Jeff MeyerGreat fully fenced dog park. Well maintained, didn't see any holes in the fence, every station had bags, all water fountains worked. No toys/bowls present so bring your own! I have a reactive dog who has trouble when seeing dogs arrive and everyone here and their dogs were so wonderful. The covering between the small/large dog fence provides a lot of help with fence frustration. Rarely used in early morning, cars driving by are fairly slow/quiet so it's not as bad for dogs who have trouble with cars as many other areas in the city are. Open: 6:00am - 30min after sunset Limit 3 dogs per person!
