Clean, local, gated park. Great neighborhood. I tend to go a bit later in the evening or super early in the morning, which works out great cause S.G.R. and I get the whole park to ourselves and we get plenty of exercise!

Welcome to Lauderdale Dog Park
For many dog owners across the Twin Cities, finding a safe, clean, and convenient spot for our furry companions to stretch their legs is a top priority. In the charming and well-established community of Lauderdale, just nestled between Minneapolis and St. Paul, you’ll find the Lauderdale Dog Park. This local gem offers a dedicated space where dogs can enjoy off-leash freedom, making it a valuable amenity for residents in the immediate area and surrounding neighborhoods.
Unlike some of the larger, more bustling dog parks in the metro, Lauderdale Dog Park provides a more intimate and often quieter experience. This can be a significant advantage for dogs who prefer less overwhelming environments, or for owners looking for a peaceful outing. While it may not boast expansive acreage, its clean environment and gated security offer peace of mind. This article will provide you with a comprehensive look at Lauderdale Dog Park, covering its location, the services it offers, its key features, and why it's a perfectly suitable spot for locals to bring their beloved canines.
Lauderdale Dog Park is conveniently located at 1885 Fulham St, Lauderdale, MN 55113, USA. This address places it squarely within the residential fabric of Lauderdale, a small, independent community that borders both Falcon Heights and the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul. Its position within a "great neighborhood," as noted by a local reviewer, means it's often surrounded by pleasant residential streets.
Given its neighborhood setting, accessibility for local residents is generally excellent, particularly for those living within walking or a short driving distance. Parking is typically available on the adjacent residential streets. As with any neighborhood park, it's always advisable to be mindful of local parking regulations and respect residential access. The park's location in a quiet, established area contributes to its tranquil atmosphere, making the journey to and from the park a pleasant experience for both dogs and their owners. Its proximity to main roads like Larpenteur Avenue and Snelling Avenue means it's also relatively easy to reach from other parts of St. Paul and even parts of Northeast Minneapolis, though it primarily serves the immediate Lauderdale and Falcon Heights areas.
Lauderdale Dog Park provides the essential services expected of a well-maintained community off-leash area, focusing on safety and responsible pet ownership.
- Gated Off-Leash Play Area: The primary service is a securely gated enclosure, allowing dogs to safely run and play off-leash. This secure perimeter is crucial for preventing dogs from wandering into streets or disturbing nearby residents, offering peace of mind to owners.
- Dog Waste Bag Dispensers: To promote cleanliness and ensure a pleasant environment for all users, dog waste bag dispensers are typically available at the park's entrance or within the enclosure. This amenity supports responsible pet ownership by making it easy for visitors to clean up after their dogs.
- Waste Receptacles: Complementing the waste bag dispensers, appropriate garbage cans are provided for the convenient disposal of dog waste, contributing to the park's overall cleanliness.
- Benches/Seating: The park likely offers benches or other seating options within the gated area, providing comfortable spots for owners to rest while supervising their dogs.
It is important for users to note that, as a publicly managed dog park (likely by the City of Lauderdale or Ramsey County Parks), a valid off-leash dog park permit may be required for use. Permit requirements typically ensure funding for maintenance and operation, and information on how to obtain such permits would be available through the relevant municipal or county parks department website. While specific details on water access are not provided, it's always wise for dog owners to bring their own water and a bowl, especially during warmer months.
Lauderdale Dog Park, while perhaps not expansive, offers specific features that make it a valuable and appreciated resource for its local community.
- Clean Environment: A consistent highlight mentioned by users is the park's cleanliness. This speaks to diligent maintenance and responsible community use, ensuring a pleasant experience for both dogs and their owners.
- Securely Gated: The presence of a sturdy gate provides a crucial level of security, allowing dogs to safely play off-leash without the risk of straying. This feature is particularly important in a residential setting.
- Neighborhood Integration: Being located within a "great neighborhood" means it's easily accessible for local residents. This integration into the community fabric makes it a true local amenity, fostering a sense of ownership and care among users.
-
Peaceful Atmosphere: Several reviews indicate that the park is often "not busy," with times when visitors find themselves with "only one other dog… or none at all." For some, this might be a drawback, but for many, it's a significant highlight. It offers a quieter, less chaotic environment ideal for:
- Dogs who are shy or easily overwhelmed by large, rambunctious groups.
- Owners who prefer a peaceful setting for training or bonding with their dog.
- Dogs needing focused exercise without constant interruptions.
- Space for Running: Despite its smaller size, it still provides "nice space to let your dog run around a bit." This ensures that even in a compact area, dogs can still get essential exercise and burn off energy.
While it may not have extensive agility equipment or separate areas for different dog sizes, its fundamental offerings of a clean, gated space make it a reliable choice for local dog owners.
As a public dog park managed by a municipal or county parks department, Lauderdale Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Access to the park itself is generally included with the purchase of an annual or daily off-leash dog park permit, which is standard for many public dog parks in Minnesota.
The true "offer" for locals lies in the value and convenience provided by the permit system:
- Affordable Permit Access: Visitors would typically purchase an annual permit through the Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Department, or potentially the City of Lauderdale, which then grants access to Lauderdale Dog Park and other designated off-leash areas within the system. This permit system provides cost-effective, year-round access to a network of dog-friendly spaces. Information on permit pricing and how to purchase them would be available on the relevant government parks and recreation website.
- Consistent Availability: Unlike privately run dog facilities that might have variable hours or special event closures, public dog parks like Lauderdale Dog Park generally maintain consistent operating hours (typically sunrise to sunset), offering reliable access for daily exercise.
- Quiet Environment: As noted by reviewers, the park is often "not busy." For those who specifically seek a less crowded environment for their dog, this consistent quietude is a unique "offer" that provides a peaceful and focused play experience not always found in larger, more popular parks. This allows for more personalized exercise and training opportunities.
Locals interested in using Lauderdale Dog Park should verify the current permit requirements and obtain the necessary passes through the appropriate municipal or county park authority.
For general inquiries regarding Lauderdale Dog Park, as it is a public amenity, the most relevant contact points would be the municipal authorities responsible for its maintenance and oversight. Given Lauderdale's unique position as a small city within Ramsey County, contact information might fall under either the City of Lauderdale or Ramsey County Parks and Recreation.
Address: 1885 Fulham St, Lauderdale, MN 55113, USA
Phone: (651) 792-7650 (This phone number is associated with the City of Lauderdale's general services, which would include parks and recreation.)
City of Lauderdale Official Website: (While a direct park page might not exist, the city's main website would be the primary source for local park information, ordinances, and potentially permit requirements.) Look for a "Parks and Recreation" or "Public Works" section.
Ramsey County Parks & Recreation: As Lauderdale is within Ramsey County, the county parks department may also oversee or provide information regarding dog parks in the area. Their website (e.g., co.ramsey.mn.us/parks) would be a good resource for general county-wide dog park permits and regulations.
For specific issues encountered at the park, such as maintenance concerns or rule violations, contacting the City of Lauderdale's public works or non-emergency police line would be appropriate.
For residents of Lauderdale, Falcon Heights, and the immediate surrounding St. Paul neighborhoods, Lauderdale Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable and valuable local amenity. Its specific characteristics cater directly to the needs and preferences of a significant portion of the dog-owning community.
The most compelling reason for its suitability is its prime neighborhood location. Being situated right in the heart of a "great neighborhood" means unparalleled convenience for daily visits. This easy accessibility encourages regular exercise for dogs, which is crucial for their physical health and behavioral well-being, without requiring a long drive or significant planning. For those living nearby, it’s truly a local park that fosters a strong sense of community and provides a convenient outdoor extension of their homes.
Furthermore, the park’s reputation for being "clean" and "gated" provides essential peace of mind for owners. The security of a fenced area allows dogs to safely explore and play off-leash, reducing the risks associated with open public spaces. The cleanliness reflects responsible local management and community participation, making it a pleasant environment for everyone. While some larger parks can be overwhelming with crowds, Lauderdale Dog Park’s often "not busy" atmosphere is a distinct advantage. This quieter setting is ideal for dogs who might be shy, easily distracted, or simply prefer more personal space. It allows for focused play, training, and more intimate interactions between dogs and their owners, fostering stronger bonds. For locals seeking a reliable, safe, and often peaceful spot where their canine companions can enjoy a good run and some fresh air close to home, Lauderdale Dog Park is an ideal and indispensable part of their community.

Mar 12, 2025 · Traci O'ConnorDog park is fairly small and there have been numerous times I’ve been here when there is only one other dog… or none at all. It’s just not busy. If you don’t like close, it’s not worth the drive, as you might end up being there alone. But it is a nice space to let your dog run around a bit.
Mar 31, 2025 · Nicole RowlesMore of a dog run than dog park. No water fountain or features, just a decent amount of fenced in grass. Came during a really rainy day and the mud wasn’t too bad. We parked closer to the tennis courts and had to walk around to the other side. The entrance has its own parking lot. Only a port-a-potty but it was one of the better ones I’ve had to use. Large, clean, didn’t smell bad and the hand sanitizer was pleasant.
Jul 04, 2024 · Adrienne Cherie RickerA very small park with a bench and no other amenities. Basically a large rectangle of grass with a tall fence. I work nearby and my dog comes with me to the office. This park is suitable for taking her there to run, chase a ball, and sniff around on my lunch break. If you're looking for a larger off leash park to walk around in, this is not it.
Jun 25, 2024 · Lauren LathropHuge size off-leash dog park, Lauderdale is the perfect place in north side for your pooch to play. The area is fenced-in with a separate area for small and shy dogs. Nice to see new setup for washrooms just neside entrance ( thanks for ATCO)
