Great place to take your dog(s)! There is one larger fenced in area for large dogs and a smaller fenced in area for smaller dogs. The larger area has a covered section with benches. Plenty of space for the dogs to run.

Island Dog Park is conveniently located at 306 Church St, Stevensville, MD 21666, USA. This prime location contributes significantly to its appeal, offering an easily accessible destination for dog owners seeking a dedicated off-leash space.

Accessibility to the park is generally excellent for those within the Stevensville vicinity. Its placement on Church Street, a relatively central location within the town, typically means straightforward navigation. While specific parking details aren't provided in the reviews, public parks usually offer designated parking areas or ample street parking nearby to accommodate visitors. Its close proximity to residential areas and the main thoroughfares of Stevensville makes it a convenient option for daily walks and playdates without requiring extensive travel. The park's welcoming nature and spacious design further enhance its accessibility, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors. While specific operating hours are not detailed in the provided review, most public dog parks in Maryland generally operate from dawn until dusk. For the most precise and up-to-date information on operating hours, especially considering seasonal changes, it's always advisable to contact Queen Anne's County Parks and Recreation, which would likely oversee such a facility, via their provided phone number. Island Dog Park offers a range of essential services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for both dogs and their human companions.

  • Two Separate Fenced Areas: A crucial service provided by Island Dog Park is its division into distinct sections: "one larger fenced in area for large dogs and a smaller fenced in area for smaller dogs." This thoughtful separation ensures that smaller, more timid dogs can play safely without being overwhelmed by larger, more energetic companions, promoting a more harmonious and secure environment for all canines.

  • Covered Section with Benches: The larger dog area includes a "covered section with benches." This is a highly valued service, providing shelter from the sun or rain for human companions, allowing them to comfortably observe their dogs and socialize with other pet owners regardless of the weather.

  • Ample Running Space: The park is highlighted for having "plenty of space for the dogs to run." This generous area is a fundamental service, crucial for dogs to get adequate exercise, explore, and express natural behaviors off-leash.

  • Shade Provision: Beyond the covered section, the overall park environment offers "shade," which is a significant service, especially during warm Maryland days. Shade helps keep dogs cool and comfortable, reducing the risk of overheating during active play.

  • Waste Management: While one review noted "too much dog poop not picked up" at a particular time, the provision of waste disposal facilities (such as trash bins and likely bag dispensers, even if occasionally empty) is an implied service that the park aims to provide. Responsible pet ownership is encouraged, and these facilities are essential for maintaining a clean park.

Island Dog Park is celebrated for its distinctive features and highlights that contribute significantly to its appeal among Maryland dog owners.

  • Dedicated Large and Small Dog Areas: The clear separation into a "larger fenced in area for large dogs and a smaller fenced in area for smaller dogs" is a paramount highlight. This design ensures that all dogs, regardless of size or temperament, have a suitable and safe environment for play, fostering confidence and reducing potential conflicts.

  • Abundant Space for Exploration and Play: Reviewers consistently praise the park's size, noting "Plenty of space for the dogs to run" and "how big it is for lots of exploring." This expansive area is crucial for energetic dogs to burn off steam and for all dogs to engage in natural behaviors like sniffing and chasing.

  • Excellent Shade Availability: The presence of "shade" is a highly appreciated highlight, especially for dog owners and their pets during the hotter months in Maryland. It provides crucial relief from the sun, allowing for longer and more comfortable visits.

  • Comfort for Owners with Covered Seating: The "covered section with benches" in the larger dog area is a thoughtful highlight that directly benefits human companions, offering a comfortable and sheltered spot to relax while their dogs play.

  • Friendly Community and Harmonious Dog Interactions: Despite the occasional issue with waste pickup, a significant highlight is the positive social environment. "The people are so lovely here, and there is hardly a spat between dogs." This speaks volumes about the friendly nature of the regular park-goers and the overall positive temperament of the dogs, making for enjoyable and stress-free visits.

  • High User Satisfaction: The opening statement of a review, "Great place to take your dog(s)!" encapsulates the general positive sentiment and highlights that the park consistently delivers a satisfying experience for its visitors.

As a public community facility, Island Dog Park typically does not offer direct commercial promotions or special offers in the traditional retail sense. Its inherent "promotion" is the free and open access it provides to a high-quality, spacious, and well-designed environment for canine recreation for all residents of Maryland.

However, local pet-oriented businesses in Stevensville and the wider Queen Anne's County area may occasionally collaborate with local community groups or the County Parks and Recreation department to offer promotions that align with dog park visits. This could include discounts on pet supplies from nearby stores, special offers from local groomers, or introductory rates from dog trainers who might hold informal meetups or workshops at or near the park. Staying updated with local Stevensville community associations, Queen Anne's County Parks & Recreation official announcements, or pet-focused social media groups would be the best way to learn about any such events or complementary promotions. These opportunities, while not directly from the park itself, can certainly enhance the overall experience of being part of the local dog-owning community.

Island Dog Park stands as an indispensable resource for dog owners across Maryland, particularly those residing in the charming Stevensville region. Its thoughtful design, ample space, and commitment to a welcoming atmosphere make it a truly suitable and highly beneficial destination for local users. For the Maryland dog owner, it offers a vital space where dogs can engage in crucial off-leash exercise and socialization, which is essential for their well-being and often difficult to achieve in suburban or rural environments without dedicated facilities.

The clear separation of large and small dog areas ensures safety and comfort for all canines, while the abundant "space for lots of exploring" and valuable "shade" enhance the overall quality of the visit. The presence of a "covered section with benches" caters directly to the comfort of human companions, allowing them to relax and enjoy the park regardless of the weather. I love the shade, I love how big it is for lots of exploring. My only complaint is that there is to much dog poop not picked up. The people are so lovely here, and there is hardly a spat between dogs. I say hardly because we just don’t know what our furry friends might do.

Gets muddy sometimes. Last two times I've gone there have been aggressive dogs there. Otherwise it is a nice park. They have a large dog area and separate small dog area.

First time there a month ago. A friend suggested it. So glad she did. We go every morning that we are visiting the boat. I love the shaded area!! The bone pool is awesome though my young pup won't lay down in it yet, she prefers to stand. She loves playing with all her new friends and looks forward to seeing them there. An awesome dog park!!

Great open space, friendly atmosphere. Not too many amenities for dog owners but there is one older bench that converts to a picnic table. A single covered pavilion with benches and a port a john that is clearly not regularly maintained. For the pups, there are 2 sections. One for smaller dogs and one for larger. Fair amount of parking and a great playground for children in close proximity (walking distance).
