Welcome to Heritage Village Park

For dog owners across Minnesota, especially those residing in the vibrant community of Inver Grove Heights and its surrounding areas, finding a safe, stimulating, and well-equipped place for their furry companions to run free is a top priority. Look no further than Heritage Village Park, a truly exceptional off-leash dog park that stands as a testament to thoughtful design and community well-being. This park is not just a patch of grass; it’s a meticulously planned canine haven, offering a comprehensive experience for dogs of all sizes and their human companions.

Heritage Village Park's dog park section, spanning an impressive 11 acres, is a standout feature within the larger park complex. What truly sets it apart is its intelligent zoning, featuring distinct, fully fenced areas tailored to different canine needs. This thoughtful design ensures that every dog, from the smallest chihuahua to the most energetic golden retriever, can enjoy their playtime comfortably and safely. As one delighted visitor enthusiastically shared, "Great Beautiful park to bring your Dog to run in socialize with other Dogs. They have a separated area for you to let your dog loose if your dog is a smaller dog I think 30 pounds And under. There is a watering station as well as bags for picking up after your dog if you forget yours. I definitely will go back here again." This sentiment is echoed by another glowing review: "This off leash dog park is really fantastic. It offers a fenced in area for small dogs, as well as a fenced in area for any size dogs. Both areas offer specific walking paths to encourage owners to walk with their dog and not stand and congregate. Each area has a water fountain for the dogs and their humans. Also there is a Pavillion with a picnic table in each area if you choose to sit while your dog plays. There are ample poop-bag stations if you forget to bring your own. And most owners really keep their dogs in check and don't allow aggressiveness or mounting."

These testimonials highlight the park’s commitment to providing a high-quality experience. The presence of specific walking paths is particularly noteworthy, encouraging active engagement between owners and their dogs beyond just standing around. Furthermore, the emphasis on responsible pet ownership, with ample poop-bag stations and owners actively monitoring their dogs, contributes to a harmonious and clean environment. Heritage Village Park’s dog park truly is a model facility, demonstrating how a community can create an outstanding recreational space that benefits both its two-legged and four-legged residents.

Location and Accessibility

Heritage Village Park is conveniently located at 4321 65th St E, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076, USA. This accessible location makes it a prime destination for dog owners throughout Inver Grove Heights and neighboring communities in the eastern Twin Cities metro area, including South St. Paul, West St. Paul, and Cottage Grove. The park is situated in the far northeastern corner of the city, near the intersection of Interstate 494 and the 6500 block of Concord Boulevard, providing straightforward access via major roadways.

The park boasts a dedicated parking lot, ensuring convenient access for visitors. Park hours are consistently from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week, offering ample opportunity for early morning romps or evening play sessions after work. However, it's crucial for prospective visitors to note that a dog park pass is required for entry into the off-leash areas. This pass system helps manage the park's resources and ensures that all dogs using the facility are vaccinated for rabies, contributing to the safety and health of the canine community. The City of Inver Grove Heights has detailed procedures for purchasing these passes online, in person, or by phone, emphasizing accessibility for locals.

Services Offered

  • Dual Off-Leash Areas: The park features two distinct, fully fenced off-leash areas: an approximately 1-acre section specifically for small dogs (generally 30 pounds and under, though some unofficial reports suggest 25 pounds) and an approximately 9-acre section for all breeds/sizes, totaling an impressive 10 acres of dedicated off-leash space.
  • Walking Paths within Off-Leash Areas: Both the small dog and all-breed sections offer specific walking paths to encourage owners to actively engage with their dogs and provide varied terrain for exploration.
  • Water Fountains: Each fenced area is equipped with a water fountain, ensuring that both dogs and their humans have access to fresh drinking water.
  • Poop Bag Stations: Ample dog waste bag stations are provided throughout the park, promoting responsible pet ownership and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Pavilions with Picnic Tables: Both the small dog and all-breed areas feature pavilions with picnic tables, offering shaded seating for owners to relax while their dogs play.
  • Lighted Trails: The unpaved trails within the off-leash areas are lighted, allowing for safe evening use until closing at 10:00 PM.
  • Secure Fencing and Entrances: Both off-leash areas are fully fenced with separate entrance gates, providing a secure environment for off-leash play and controlled entry/exit.
  • Designated Parking Lot: A dedicated parking lot provides convenient access to the dog park facilities.
  • Required Dog Park Pass: An annual dog park pass is required for use, which includes a dog tag to be worn on the collar, ensuring all dogs are vaccinated and registered for safety.

Features / Highlights

  • Expansive & Zoned Play: The most significant highlight is the park's 10 acres of dedicated off-leash space, thoughtfully divided into separate large and small dog areas. This separation is crucial for ensuring the comfort and safety of all dogs, particularly smaller or more timid ones, by minimizing potential intimidation from larger breeds.
  • Structured Walking Paths: Unlike many open-field dog parks, Heritage Village includes specific walking paths within its fenced areas. This encourages owners to walk with their dogs, providing a more engaging and active experience rather than just standing in one spot, and adds variety to the dog's exercise routine.
  • Excellent Amenities for Comfort & Convenience: The presence of water fountains for both dogs and humans, ample poop-bag stations, and shaded pavilions with picnic tables in both sections significantly enhances the user experience, making visits comfortable and hassle-free.
  • Strong Emphasis on Safety and Responsibility: The requirement for an annual dog park pass (which includes rabies vaccination verification), along with observed active supervision by owners and a strict policy against aggression, fosters a secure and responsible environment that prioritizes canine well-being.
  • Community-Focused Design: The layout and amenities encourage a positive community atmosphere, allowing dog owners to interact and share experiences while their pets socialize safely.
  • Year-Round Accessibility with Lighting: The park is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, and the lighted trails mean it can be enjoyed even after sunset, making it a reliable option for exercise regardless of daylight hours or season.
  • Future Park Enhancements: Heritage Village Park is undergoing broader developments, including a future inclusive splash pad and playground, which will further enhance the overall appeal of the park complex for families.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public facility managed by the City of Inver Grove Heights Parks and Recreation Department, Heritage Village Park's dog park operates on an annual pass system rather than offering traditional commercial promotions or discounts. The "offer" is the provision of a high-quality, safe, and well-maintained off-leash facility for its registered users.

The fee structure for the required annual dog park pass is as follows:

  • First Dog (Resident): $22 per year
  • First Dog (Non-resident): $33 per year
  • Second Dog (Resident): $17 per year (a discount of $5)
  • Second Dog (Non-resident): $28 per year (a discount of $5)

There are no additional discounts for third or subsequent dogs listed, and daily passes are not available; usage requires an annual pass. This annual fee helps cover the costs of maintenance, cleaning, and ensuring the quality of the park's amenities. While not a "promotion," the discounted rate for a second dog can be seen as an incentive for multi-dog households. The city’s website emphasizes that fees collected are reinvested into maintaining the dog park.

Locals interested in specific events or programs that might occur at Heritage Village Park should consult the official City of Inver Grove Heights Parks & Recreation website or contact them directly, as these would be the closest equivalent to "special offers" in a public park setting.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For dog owners in Minnesota, particularly those in Inver Grove Heights and the surrounding South Metro area, Heritage Village Park's dog park is exceptionally well-suited and highly beneficial. Its comprehensive design directly addresses common needs and concerns of local pet parents, making it a premier destination for canine recreation.

The dual, fully fenced off-leash areas for small dogs and all breeds are a massive advantage. This thoughtful separation allows owners to choose the most appropriate and comfortable environment for their dog, fostering safer interactions and reducing stress, especially for smaller or more timid pups. This consideration for all sizes of dogs truly makes it an inclusive community asset. The inclusion of specific walking paths within these large fenced areas is a game-changer, enabling owners to actively participate in their dog's exercise rather than just supervising from the sidelines, which is a unique and highly appreciated feature.

Furthermore, the park's excellent amenities – including water fountains, ample poop bags, and shaded pavilions – reflect a commitment to visitor comfort and responsible pet ownership, easing common worries for locals planning a visit. The requirement for an annual pass, while a small fee, ensures that the park is well-maintained and that all dogs using it are vaccinated, contributing to a healthy and safe environment for the entire canine community. With generous operating hours, lighted trails for evening use, and a strong emphasis on controlled, positive socialization, Heritage Village Park's dog park stands out as an indispensable resource. It's a true gem that enhances the quality of life for dogs and their devoted human families in Inver Grove Heights, offering a superior off-leash experience right in their backyard.

What a beautiful place for dogs to run and play! They have a fresh water source at the main gate which is a great benefit. If you forgot to bring bags to pick up after your dog they have those too!

Very nice dog park. It is right next to the parking lot. There is a small dog (30 pounds and less area) and an all dog breed area. Both areas totally fenced in. We had a good experience, friendly dogs and friendly owners! Would definitely suggest this for a place to bring your dog to get some exercise and interaction with other dogs. Also a nice time to chat with others dog owners from the community.

Our dogs love this off-leash park! Great walking path for us and a bunch off land for them to run and play catch. All the dogs and their people have been really nice to us.
