The park itself is actually really nice with big trees for shade, doggie water fountains, plenty of room for the dogs to run, and plenty of benches spread around to sit at. My two complaints are that it's waaaaaaay in the back, and that there is little to no grass inside the fenced area. A trip to this park will require a bath for everyone two legged and four

Welcome to Dog Park - Camino Real
For dog owners in Ventura, California, finding a sprawling, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed space for their beloved canine companions is a true blessing. Among the city's many excellent parks, the Dog Park at Camino Real stands out as a consistently praised destination for off-leash fun. Located at 3972 Dean Dr, Ventura, CA 93003, USA, this dedicated dog area within the larger Camino Real Park offers a fantastic environment where dogs can run freely, socialize, and enjoy the beautiful Ventura sunshine, often under the shade of mature trees.
Despite its location "waaaaaaay in the back" of the larger park, as one reviewer humorously noted, the journey to Camino Real Dog Park is well worth it for the benefits it provides. Reviewers consistently highlight its generous size, with "plenty of room for the dogs to run," and the convenience of "doggie water fountains" and "plenty of benches spread around to sit at." Whether your furry friend is a social butterfly needing space to romp with large groups or a smaller companion seeking a safe haven to play, Camino Real Dog Park is designed to accommodate. This comprehensive article will explore the location, accessibility, services, and unique features of Camino Real Dog Park, detailing why it’s an exceptional choice for local California dog owners.
Camino Real Dog Park is nestled within the expansive Camino Real Park, located at 3972 Dean Dr, Ventura, CA 93003, USA. While the park itself is a large community hub with various amenities like sports fields and picnic areas, the dog park is situated in its southwest corner, providing a dedicated and somewhat secluded space for canine activities.
Access to Camino Real Dog Park is generally straightforward, though visitors should be aware of its specific location within the larger park. As one reviewer mentioned, it's "waaaaaaay in the back," which implies a bit of a walk from parking areas, but also contributes to its peaceful atmosphere away from other park activities. Parking is typically available within Camino Real Park, offering convenience for visitors.
The dog park operates from dawn to dusk every day, aligning with the operating hours of Camino Real Park itself. This generous schedule allows ample time for both early morning exercise and evening wind-downs with your dog. It's important to note that dogs are only permitted off-leash within the designated fenced dog park area; in other parts of Camino Real Park, dogs must be kept on a leash. The park also has specific rules regarding dog vaccinations (rabies) and current animal licenses, which owners should be prepared to adhere to. The City of Ventura emphasizes that dogs must be under the care, custody, and control of a person 18 years or older, and owners must maintain voice control and clean up after their pets.
Camino Real Dog Park provides a range of essential services designed to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for dogs and their owners:
-
Separate Dog Areas: A highly appreciated service, the park features "separate designated areas for both large and small dogs." This critical division allows for safer and more appropriate play, ensuring that smaller or more timid dogs can enjoy their time without feeling overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous canines. The larger dog area, in particular, offers "exceptional room to run together, romp and play!"
-
Doggie Water Fountains: To keep dogs hydrated, especially during active play in California's sunny climate, the park is equipped with "doggie water fountains." This convenient amenity means owners don't need to carry their own water, and pups can refresh themselves easily.
-
Dog Waste Bags: Promoting cleanliness and responsible pet ownership, the park provides "doggie-doo bags" in dispenser stations. This encourages users to pick up after their pets, contributing to the park's overall cleanliness.
-
Secure Fencing: The entire dog park area is "fenced," providing a safe and secure environment for off-leash play. Reviewers confirm it's a "fenced doggie park" that helps them feel "comfortable letting my dog off-leash."
Camino Real Dog Park stands out with several key features that enhance its appeal to Ventura's dog-loving community:
-
Ample Space for Running: A consistent highlight from reviews is the generous size of the park. It offers "plenty of room for the dogs to run," allowing for energetic play, long sprints, and ample space for multiple dogs to interact without feeling crowded.
-
Natural Shade from Large Trees: A significant advantage, especially on warm California days, is the presence of "big trees for shade." This natural shading provides comfortable resting spots for both dogs and their owners, making visits more enjoyable and extended.
-
Abundant Benches: For human comfort, there are "plenty of benches spread around to sit at." These seating options allow owners to relax and supervise their dogs, or socialize with other pet parents.
-
Double-Gated Entries: For enhanced safety, the dog park features "double gates for safe entry/exit to the play areas." This design prevents dogs from potentially escaping when another dog or person enters or exits the enclosure.
-
Social Atmosphere: The park is known for being a friendly place where "your fur baby is social... this fenced doggie park is just the best!" and where there are "plenty of friendly pups for mine to play with." This positive social dynamic creates a welcoming environment for both new and regular visitors.
-
Integrated into a Larger Park: Being part of the 38-acre Camino Real Park means visitors can combine their dog park visit with other recreational activities, such as picnics, using sports fields, or enjoying the general park atmosphere (with dogs leashed outside the dog park).
While overwhelmingly positive, one minor consideration noted by a reviewer is "little to no grass inside the fenced area," suggesting it might be primarily dirt or a worn surface that could lead to dogs getting dirty. However, this is often a trade-off for high-traffic dog parks.
As a public park managed by the City of Ventura, Camino Real Dog Park does not offer commercial promotions, discounts, or special offers in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "promotion" is the free and open access to a well-maintained and highly regarded recreational facility for all Ventura residents and visitors.
The true "special offer" provided by Camino Real Dog Park lies in its inherent value: a spacious, safe, and amenity-rich environment for off-leash dog play, all at no cost. The consistent availability of fresh water, dog waste bags, comfortable seating, and crucial shade are significant benefits that enhance the experience for every user. The existence of separate areas for large and small dogs, a feature not universally found in all dog parks, further adds to its value by catering to diverse canine needs. The park serves as an invaluable public resource that supports responsible pet ownership and promotes community well-being in Ventura. Any community events or specific programs would typically be announced by the City of Ventura Parks and Recreation Department.

Camino Real Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable and highly valued resource for dog owners living in Ventura, California. Its array of thoughtful features directly addresses the needs and desires of local pet parents, making it a cornerstone of the city's dog-friendly landscape. The park's generous size means that even high-energy dogs have "plenty of room to run," a crucial factor for their physical health and happiness. The provision of separate, securely fenced areas for large and small dogs demonstrates a commitment to safety and harmonious play, ensuring that all canine visitors, regardless of size or temperament, can enjoy their off-leash time without undue stress.
Beyond the space itself, the amenities truly enhance the experience. The abundance of natural shade from large trees offers much-needed respite on sunny California days, making visits more comfortable for both dogs and their owners. Readily available doggie water fountains and waste bags promote responsible pet ownership and contribute to the park's consistent cleanliness, fostering a pleasant environment that locals appreciate. The ample benches provide comfortable spots for owners to relax, supervise, and socialize, building a sense of community among Ventura's dog lovers.
While the lack of extensive grass within the fenced area is a minor point, it's often a common characteristic of heavily used dog parks, and the benefits of space, shade, and safety far outweigh this. Camino Real Dog Park is not just a place for dogs to run; it's a vital social hub and a testament to Ventura's commitment to its canine residents, offering a consistently positive and engaging outdoor experience that is truly perfect for local California dog owners.

Jan 24, 2025 · Noah BellIf your fur baby is social... this fenced doggie park is just the best! The larger dogs have exceptional room to run together, romp and play! Adjacent is a wonderful small doggie fenced area for the littles to play!!! Check it out soon... it's exceptional!
Jul 02, 2024 · Lori GasawayBEWARE OF OFF LEASH DOGS. I'm not talking about dogs off leash that are inside the dog park. It's about the area outside of the designated dog park. Despite signs everywhere posted to keep your dog on leash. People walk their dogs off leash. We got attacked twice by off leash dogs.
Jan 07, 2025 · Silvia A.One of my favorite dog parks in Ventura. I have been going to this park for around 30 plus years and it's one of the best places to go. My kids and now my dogs, we all loved going to this park.
Dec 23, 2024 · Lori BergkampGreat dog park for big dogs. The other review who said it was removed in favor of pickleball courts is incorrect - maybe it used to be over there but the dog park is now on the far end of the park from the courts. The large dog area is probably the largest fenced one in the local area but the small dog area seems too small. The large area is big enough to spread out and not get your small pup overwhelmed by the big pups as long as it’s not super crowded.
