I honestly fell in love with this place. The staff that I dealt with were knowledgeable about the products that they had. They didn't have as many choices as the big stores like PetSmart down the road but I appreciated that. I feel as if their prices were comparable. It seemed clean and the animals looked like they were well cared for. We did get a chance to play with the puppies. They did ask for a donation in order to play with the puppies. It reminded me of the old time pet stores. Their enclosures was open where you could interact with the small animals. I will definitely be back to this place.

The Pet Store Introduce
For pet owners in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, The Pet Store located at 487 Gateway Ave presents itself as a local option within the "Pet Store Near Me" category. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of the environment, services, and features of The Pet Store based on recent customer feedback found online, offering insights for local pet enthusiasts. However, it's important to note that the reviews present a mixed picture, highlighting both positive aspects and significant concerns.
One customer described a positive initial impression of The Pet Store, noting that the staff they interacted with were "knowledgeable about the products that they had." This suggests that the store employs individuals who are informed about the items they sell and can offer assistance to customers seeking specific supplies or advice. The reviewer also appreciated the store's selection, noting that while it didn't have as many choices as larger chain stores, this was not necessarily a drawback. They found the prices to be "comparable," indicating that the store is competitive in its pricing strategy within the local market. The cleanliness of the store and the apparent good care of the animals were also positive observations, contributing to a favorable initial experience.
A unique feature mentioned by this customer was the opportunity to interact with the puppies, reminiscent of "old time pet stores." However, this interaction required a donation, suggesting a policy aimed at supporting the care of the animals. The open enclosures for small animals, allowing for interaction, were also seen as a positive aspect, potentially offering a more engaging experience for customers and a more stimulating environment for the animals.
However, another customer shared a significantly negative experience related to the purchase of a puppy. This review detailed a discrepancy between the breed represented at the time of sale and the actual breed of the dog. The customer specifically inquired about purchasing a full-size Australian Shepherd but was allegedly assured that the "American Shepherd" they were selling was the same and would not be a miniature. Months later, the customer discovered that the dog was, in fact, a Miniature Australian Shepherd. Attempts to resolve this issue with the store reportedly only yielded information about the dog's parents, with no offer of a refund or any other form of compensation for receiving a dog that was not what they had explicitly stated they wanted and for which they paid a substantial sum of $2,700.
This same customer also recounted a negative experience with a "lifetime leash and collar" purchased from the store. Upon the leash being chewed by their dog, they returned to the store, based on a previous understanding that replacements would be provided. However, they were then directed to fill out an online form via a website listed on the product and were denied an immediate replacement, despite driving 50 minutes to the store. This experience led the customer to vow never to spend money at the store again and expressed concern that others might face similar disappointments regarding misrepresented animals.
Based on these two contrasting reviews, it is challenging to paint a definitive picture of the overall environment and services of The Pet Store. While one customer found it clean, well-maintained, and staffed with knowledgeable individuals, the other experienced a significant issue with a major purchase (a puppy) and a product guarantee, leading to considerable dissatisfaction. This suggests a potential inconsistency in customer service or accuracy of information provided, particularly regarding animal breeds.
The services offered at The Pet Store likely include the sale of various pet supplies, potentially encompassing food, treats, toys, grooming products, and accessories for different types of pets. The mention of puppies and small animals suggests that the store also engages in the sale of live animals. The opportunity to interact with some of these animals, albeit with a donation for puppies, indicates a hands-on approach that some customers might appreciate.
Features of The Pet Store appear to include knowledgeable staff (based on one review), a selection of products that may be smaller but carefully chosen compared to larger retailers, and interactive enclosures for small animals. The issue with the misrepresentation of the American Shepherd breed as a full-size Australian Shepherd, however, casts a shadow on the reliability of information provided during animal sales. Similarly, the discrepancy regarding the lifetime warranty on the leash and collar raises concerns about the store's adherence to product guarantees.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews. Local pet stores often have various promotions, such as discounts on specific brands, adoption events in partnership with local shelters, or loyalty programs. However, the provided feedback does not offer any insight into whether The Pet Store engages in such promotional activities. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the in-store experience, staff interactions, and the issues encountered with animal purchases and product warranties.
In conclusion, The Pet Store in Chambersburg, PA, presents a mixed bag of experiences for customers, based on the available reviews. While some appreciate the knowledgeable staff, clean environment, and interactive approach with animals, significant concerns have been raised regarding the accuracy of information provided during animal sales and the honoring of product guarantees. Potential local customers should be aware of these contrasting experiences. Those interested in purchasing animals, particularly specific breeds, may need to exercise extra caution and seek thorough documentation and assurances. Similarly, clarity regarding product warranties should be obtained at the time of purchase. For general pet supplies, the store may offer a satisfactory local alternative with potentially competitive pricing, but the serious issues raised in one of the reviews warrant careful consideration.

Apr 07, 2025 · Jonathan KlingerI purchased an Australian shepherd here in April…. The name was American shepherd but I was told the name Australian shepherd was switched to the American shepherd…. I specifically asked if this was going to be a miniature Australian shepherd because I didn’t want to purchase a miniature. I was assured that this was not a miniature and would be a full size Australian shepherd. Months went on and I couldn’t figure out as to why she wasn’t getting any bigger so I started digging and found out she was in fact as miniature Australian shepherd. I called the store about this and all I could be told was info about the dogs parents…. I paid $2,700 for a dog which is not what we wanted. We were never even offered money back or anything at all since this was not the dog we wanted originally. If you’re getting an American shepherd just beware that they are in fact all miniatures. I then recently went in because I purchased a lifetime leash and collar and she had chewed it. We were told bring both back in if something ever happens and we will replace it. I drove 50 minutes away to be told I have to fill out online from the website listed on the leash and collars and that I was unable to get a replacement. I will never again spend another dollar in this store and I am sure there will be plenty other upset people when they realize the dog they think they are getting isn’t what they are being told.
Jan 26, 2025 · AmberNEVER buy an animal at this store. They sell sick animals. Purchased a Skinny pig from them, 3 weeks later.. it has green pus coming out of his nose. They only give a 3 day warranty because this store knows they sell sick animals… Do NOT buy anything from them. This place does not even solve the issue even if you call them and speak with the manager. Picture posted of this beautiful baby (he had make sure I was cleaning his home correctly, he was the sweetest little guy)
Aug 18, 2024 · Bethany MillerVery nice store! The only thing I will say is that the birds didn’t seem very happy to me. I would know because they made angry sounding noises that my birds make when they need food or water. Other than that awesome!
Mar 20, 2025 · Moona SunnyBought our Cavalier here just over a year ago. They do a great job at trying to connect healthy pets with owners. Before hating on this store remember it is the buyers responsibility to know and be able to care for their pets and that includes vet care and vaxing. Also includes knowing if a breed has possible heredity issues. Get insurance. Love this place and pets are a commitment.
