We purchased three lemon tetras and five Von Rio tetras for our established, planted aquarium. Almost immediately after releasing the Rio tetras into the tank, we noticed clear signs of ich (white spots covering the Rio tetras) - see photos. I called the store the same day, but they insisted there was nothing they could do, claiming, "Ich can be caused by anything, even just stress from your tank conditions." In reality, they quickly realized their Rio tetra stock was infested with ich and quarantined them right after selling some to us. Two days later, one of the lemon tetras died, and within 48 hours, all of our fish were wiped out. Instead of taking responsibility for their mistake and offering a refund, they refused to provide any compensation. The store doesn’t offer refunds—only store credit—which is incredibly frustrating. This rigid policy is especially unfair to beginner fish keepers who might not know which fish are compatible with their tank. Sometimes fish simply don’t get along, and in those cases, a return should be warranted. Unfortunately, this store has no flexibility in such situations. To their credit, the employees are nice and helpful. However, the owner is a different story. He wasn’t particularly friendly and outright told me all my fish would die if my pH was below 7.4, a comment that clearly showed he had no experience with CO2-injected planted tanks. While I generally prefer to support local businesses, I can’t recommend buying fish here unless you’re absolutely certain the stock is healthy and compatible with your tank. Their rigid policies, lack of refunds, and the owner’s dismissive attitude make them a poor choice compared to Petco, Petsmart, and Pet Supermarket.

The Fish Tank Introduce

For local residents in Daytona Beach, Florida, searching under the category "Pet Store Near Me," The Fish Tank, situated at 2455 W International Speedway Blvd Unit 701, presents a complex profile based on the contrasting experiences shared by online reviewers. While one customer enthusiastically praises the store's variety and the friendliness of the staff, another recounts a deeply negative experience involving diseased fish, a rigid no-refund policy, and an unhelpful owner. This dichotomy suggests that while The Fish Tank may have certain positive attributes, potential customers should be aware of significant concerns raised by at least one reviewer regarding fish health and customer service practices.

One reviewer offers a highly positive, albeit brief, assessment: "Incredible store, all the beautiful saltwater and freshwater things under one roof! Great friendly staff and helpful! Check them out and support the local stores!" This feedback highlights the store's apparent strength in offering a wide selection of both saltwater and freshwater aquarium-related items. The praise for the "Great friendly staff and helpful!" suggests that at least some customers have positive interactions with the employees. This reviewer encourages supporting the local business, indicating a generally favorable impression of The Fish Tank.

However, another reviewer details a significantly negative experience that raises serious concerns about the store's practices: "We purchased three lemon tetras and five Von Rio tetras for our established, planted aquarium. Almost immediately after releasing the Rio tetras into the tank, we noticed clear signs of ich (white spots covering the Rio tetras) - see photos. I called the store the same day, but they insisted there was nothing they could do, claiming, 'Ich can be caused by anything, even just stress from your tank conditions.' In reality, they quickly realized their Rio tetra stock was infested with ich and quarantined them right after selling some to us. Their rigid policies, lack of refunds, and the owner’s dismissive attitude make them a poor choice compared to Petco, Petsmart, and Pet Supermarket." This extensive review outlines a series of significant issues. The immediate appearance of ich on newly purchased fish suggests a problem with the health of the store's stock. The reviewer alleges that the store was aware of the infestation and quarantined the remaining stock after the sale, yet refused to take responsibility for selling diseased fish. The store's policy of offering only store credit, and not refunds, is criticized as particularly unfair, especially for novice fish keepers or in cases of incompatible or unhealthy fish. While the reviewer acknowledges that the employees are "nice and helpful," their experience with the owner was negative, describing him as "not particularly friendly" and providing inaccurate advice regarding planted tanks, indicating a lack of expertise in that area. The reviewer concludes with a strong caution against purchasing fish from The Fish Tank unless the buyer is certain of the stock's health and compatibility, citing the store's rigid policies, no-refund policy, and the owner's attitude as significant drawbacks.

Based on these reviews, the environment of The Fish Tank in Daytona Beach appears to be a retail space that houses both saltwater and freshwater aquarium supplies and livestock. The positive review suggests a visually appealing store with a variety of "beautiful" items. However, the negative review does not provide details about the physical environment but focuses on the health of the livestock and the interactions with staff and the owner. The mention of quarantined fish suggests that the store does have some capacity for isolating potentially sick animals, although this was reportedly done after selling infected fish to a customer.

The services offered by The Fish Tank include the sale of both saltwater and freshwater fish, as well as related aquarium supplies. The positive review highlights the availability of a wide range of products under one roof. The negative review details the purchase of specific types of tetras, indicating that they sell various species of freshwater fish. The interaction with the staff and owner suggests that they should be available to assist customers with their purchases and provide advice, although the quality and accuracy of this advice appear to be inconsistent, particularly in specialized areas like planted tanks. The store's policy of offering only store credit and not refunds is a significant aspect of their service policy.

The features of The Fish Tank include a wide selection of both saltwater and freshwater aquarium products, as praised by one reviewer. The staff are described as "friendly and helpful" by both reviewers, which is a positive feature. However, significant negative features include the potential for selling unhealthy fish (as evidenced by the ich infestation), a rigid "no refund, store credit only" policy that is criticized as unfair, and an owner who is described as unfriendly and potentially lacking expertise in certain areas of fishkeeping, such as planted tanks. The alleged practice of quarantining infected fish only after selling some to customers is also a major concern.

No specific promotional information is mentioned in either of the provided reviews. Aquarium stores may sometimes offer sales on specific types of fish, discounts on starter kits, or loyalty programs for frequent customers. Local residents in Daytona Beach interested in potential promotions at The Fish Tank would need to visit the store directly at 2455 W International Speedway Blvd Unit 701 or contact them by phone at (386) 255-2253 to inquire. Their website or social media presence, if available, might also provide information on any current deals or offers.

In conclusion, for local residents in Daytona Beach, Florida, searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" specializing in aquariums, The Fish Tank at 2455 W International Speedway Blvd Unit 701 presents a mixed picture. While one reviewer praises its wide selection of saltwater and freshwater items and the friendly, helpful staff, another recounts a troubling experience involving the sale of diseased fish, a rigid no-refund policy, and an unhelpful and misinformed owner. Potential customers, especially those new to fishkeeping or those purchasing live fish, should be aware of the serious concerns raised about the health of the livestock and the store's customer service policies. While the staff may be friendly, the alleged issues with fish health and the owner's approach warrant caution. Local aquarium enthusiasts may want to weigh these contrasting experiences carefully before deciding to shop at The Fish Tank.

This LFS is amazing! Great staff, awesome inventory, cool critters. They set me up with a great product for a beginner called “The Hello Reef Tank” it’s an all in one kit. Like it actually comes with EVERYTHING you need to start a saltwater aquarium. The tank, gear, live rock, sand, and even step by step tutorial videos with a support team to assist with any questions or concerns you may have! I highly recommend this place. Seriously one of the best in the business. They currently do not ship live stock but I talked with them and they are in the works of getting this setup. I’m waiting for the day they do! For the beginners out there wanting to start a saltwater tank, I HIGHLY recommend the Hello Reef kit!

Really adored the service from this shop! Great selection and so much to choose from. Employees were willing to work with us since we had to travel back to Alabama. If we ever come back, this will be one of our first stops.
