Want to preface this review. I am an enthusiastic fish keeper. I have 8-9 tanks up at the moment. I drive all over the front range to different non-chain stores for different fish or equipment. I’ve been to different fish keeping events and gatherings in the past. I still consider my self a newbie-enthusiast. This is my closest non-chain store and I’ve been coming here two years now. The store its self is great. Selection is good, pricing is fair-ish but not enough to shop elsewhere due to the quality of the livestock, drystock selection and it’s a cool place to visit. All that being said, over the past 6mo or so everyone I’ve interacted with has just become cold and transactional, it makes me not want to shop there. Little care in what I was up to, like a Petco transaction. No questions to make sure I’m not about to kill whatever I bought or making sure I’m not about to poison my tank. If I just wanted a transaction I would shop online but I shopped here for the experience, expertise along with the product, this is why I’m willing to pay a little more. Sometimes I don’t know what I don’t know. I’ll continue to shop here, but only when I need to because of location. You guys have done better in the past in my personal, completely subjective, point of view.

Welcome to The Fish Crew

For aquatic enthusiasts in Fort Collins, Colorado, when the search is for a truly specialized "Pet Store Near Me," **The Fish Crew** at 1414 E Harmony Rd #1, Fort Collins, CO 80525, USA, stands out as a prime destination. Reachable at (970) 286-2245, this store has carved a niche for itself by focusing exclusively on the intricate and fascinating world of aquariums, offering a depth of selection and expertise often unrivaled by general pet retailers.

The **environment** within The Fish Crew is consistently described as a true haven for fish keepers. Unlike a typical pet store that might feel sterile, this establishment is characterized by its impressive display tanks, brimming with vibrant, healthy fish, lush live plants, and captivating saltwater corals and anemones. As one reviewer eloquently puts it, "This is the nicest aquarium store I've ever been to." The emphasis is clearly on maintaining pristine water conditions and appropriate habitats for all aquatic life, creating an immersive and visually stimulating experience. The store is designed to be a place where both seasoned hobbyists and curious newcomers can browse comfortably, often spending hours admiring the diverse ecosystems on display. The cleanliness and meticulous organization of the tanks and dry goods contribute to a pleasant and inspiring atmosphere, reinforcing the store's dedication to the aquatic hobby. This specialized environment sets it apart as a genuine "Pet Store Near Me" for aquatic needs.

The core **services** offered by The Fish Crew revolve around providing high-quality aquatic livestock and the essential knowledge to care for them. Their primary service is the sale of an impressive selection of **healthy fish**, encompassing both freshwater and saltwater varieties. Customers consistently praise the vitality of their fish compared to those found in larger chain stores. Beyond fish, they offer a "huge variety of live plants" for freshwater tanks, catering to aquascaping enthusiasts, and a remarkable selection of **saltwater corals & anemones**, which speaks to their expertise in more complex marine setups. Another critical service highlighted by customers is their offering of **treatments for sick fish that others don't carry**, making them a vital resource for addressing common and uncommon aquatic health issues. While one review noted a perceived shift towards a more transactional interaction in recent months, the general sentiment is that the staff are "happy to help without being annoyed if you're just Browse" and are knowledgeable. This implies a foundational commitment to sharing expertise, which is a key service for complex hobbies like fish keeping, where proper guidance can make or break a tank's success.

Regarding **goods for sale**, The Fish Crew truly shines as a specialized "Pet Store Near Me" for aquatic needs. Their inventory goes far beyond basic supplies. For **freshwater enthusiasts**, they offer a wide range of tanks (with prices noted as "way lower than what I've seen at the big chain retailers"), filtration systems, heaters, lighting solutions, substrates, and a comprehensive selection of fish foods and supplements. The "huge variety of live plants" is a significant draw, allowing customers to create biodiverse and aesthetically pleasing aquascapes. For **saltwater hobbyists**, their offerings are equally impressive, including specialized saltwater tanks, protein skimmers, live rock, salt mixes, and the aforementioned corals and anemones. They also carry a diverse array of **tank decor**, catering to various stylistic preferences. Crucially, their stock includes specialized **fish health treatments** that might be difficult to find elsewhere, providing a lifeline for struggling aquariums. The breadth and depth of their dry goods selection mean that hobbyists, from beginners to advanced keepers, can find everything they need under one roof, often eliminating the need to "hop different pet shops for harder to find products," as one reviewer experienced with other pet stores.

Several **features** make The Fish Crew a highly recommended "Pet Store Near Me" in Fort Collins. Firstly, their **deep specialization in aquatic life** allows them to maintain a higher standard of animal health and offer a more comprehensive selection than general pet stores. The consistent praise for their "healthier fish" is a testament to this focus. Secondly, the **impressive saltwater display tanks** serve not only as a visual treat but also as a demonstration of their expertise and the potential of the hobby, inspiring customers. Thirdly, their **competitive pricing on tanks** is a significant draw, making the initial investment in the hobby more accessible. Fourthly, their ability to stock **specialized treatments for sick fish** positions them as a crucial problem-solving resource for the local fish-keeping community. While one customer noted a recent decline in staff engagement, the overall sentiment regarding the staff's knowledge and willingness to help is positive. For serious hobbyists, the "quality of the livestock, drystock selection" and the "cool place to visit" aspect outweigh minor price differences, making it their preferred choice despite potentially "fair-ish" pricing on some items. The fact that an "enthusiastic fish keeper" with multiple tanks considers them their "closest non-chain store" and continues to shop there due to quality is a strong endorsement.

Regarding **promotional information**, a specialized "Pet Store Near Me" like The Fish Crew would likely engage in targeted strategies rather than broad campaigns. While specific, real-time promotions are not generally available through a casual internet search, common tactics might include in-store educational workshops on topics such as "Beginner's Guide to Saltwater Aquariums," "Advanced Planted Tank Techniques," or "Identifying and Treating Fish Diseases." These events could offer discounts on related products or new tank setups. They might run seasonal sales on certain types of fish, corals, or specific brands of equipment. Loyalty programs for regular purchases of fish food, water conditioners, or specialized supplies could also be a possibility. The Fish Crew would likely leverage its strong visual appeal on social media platforms, showcasing new arrivals of rare fish or stunning corals, sharing impressive tank setups, and providing valuable care tips. Collaborations with local aquarium clubs or online forums for fish keepers in the Fort Collins area could also serve as a form of promotion, attracting dedicated hobbyists. The consistent positive word-of-mouth, as evidenced by the glowing customer reviews, is arguably their most powerful and organic promotional tool, drawing in customers seeking a genuinely superior aquatic retail experience.

In conclusion, The Fish Crew at 1414 E Harmony Rd #1, Fort Collins, CO, is undoubtedly the premier "Pet Store Near Me" for anyone in the region with an interest in the aquatic hobby. Its meticulously maintained environment, extensive selection of healthy freshwater and saltwater fish, live plants, corals, and essential supplies, combined with competitive pricing on key items and a generally knowledgeable staff, make it an invaluable resource. Despite a noted slight shift in customer interaction from one reviewer, its core strengths ensure it remains a go-to destination for both novice and experienced fish keepers in the Fort Collins community, proving that specialized expertise truly makes a difference.

This is the nicest aquarium store I've ever been to. The prices on their tanks looked way lower than what I've seen at the big chain retailers, not to mention healthier fish. If you have a sick fish, they carry the treatments that the others don't. Huge variety of live plants, saltwater corals & anemones, and tank decor. Their saltwater display tanks are impressive! The staff are happy to help without being annoyed if you're just browsing. I'm not a fish enthusiast, for the record, but my kid is. It is definitely worth driving past the other pet supply stores to come here!

This is such a cool store with all types of fish, both fresh and salt water! The price is pretty comparable to someplace like Petco where we've gotten fish for our tank in the past; so glad to have found a local spot instead! The two employees we talked to were super knowledgeable and gave great advice on what fish we should get for our community tank.

I had a great first experience with Trader yesterday, getting my aquarium fully equipped with live plants, a cleaning crew, 3 dwarf puffers, and 1 dwarf gourami. I got my water tested and was all set to go. Unfortunately one of the puffers died almost immediately, but all the other newer inhabitants are acclimating very well! I had called the store ahead of time to get a full understanding of their return/swap policy and was told I needed "the dead fish body, a water sample, and my receipt." They specified no further. Upon going back to the store with all of the listed required materials, I was met with hostile "customer service" by what I discovered to be THE OWNER. Being very polite I presented my samples, my receipt, and my water test from 24 hours prior. Matt was very quick to dismiss me, and very aggressively. I felt very intimidated by again, THE OWNER who was speaking to me in a very demeaning tone, like I had done something wrong. I tried to explain that I had called earlier and had asked about the policy, and it had not been specified that the body of the fish needed to be separated from the water sample (again, very politely). I was immediately and sternly interrupted and treated like a dumb blonde. The owner just kept repeating "nope, not gonna fly. It's stated CLEARLY on your receipt," exaggeratingly pointing to my receipt as if obviously I should know all the ins and outs as a first time customer. I spent over $100 on all of my materials and fish and was met with less than sub-par quality customer service by owner of the establishment. Trader, Ethan, and Emma provided the best service by far and if I do decide to continue shopping there I will only do so with them. But how I was treated today nearly sent me out the door in tears because of how heavily intimidated I was by the harsh and aggressive verbal treatment of the owner. Thank you Trader, Emma, and Ethan! But the upper management desperately needs to be addressed for their poor treatment of a first time customer. It truly was outrageous. **UPDATE** I returned to the store hoping to get better service and I sure did! The manager on duty, Emma, apologized for the horrific experience and thanked me for returning. Ethan tended to my needs diligently and answered my questions with a surplus of knowledge! Overall, my experience with the crew at Fish Crew has been phenomenal. I commend them for being able to recover such a horrendously fumbled situation bred by upper management. All three of them deserve a raise 👏🏼
