I went in today honestly it looked like it was closed with how dark and empty it looked on the outside, but I needed to replace the lids on my 75 gallon aquarium since my fish are jumpers during feeding time. There’s a few options but they don’t look like the size I need so I go up to the front (which is super near the fish section) to ask for help. The cashier said not one word just shook her head when I asked if she could call someone (I’ve been hearing pages over the PA system since I walked in so I know they have phones) I asked again and again no word spoken just shook her head no. Thankfully I had heard a man towards the back of the store stocking shelves who was super friendly and able to help me get the right size lid for my tank. Back up to the front I go with my lid and a toy for my cat. Was going to pick up a bag of hay for my guinea pigs as well but figured I’d drive the 20 minutes to PetSmart. So I approached the register ans finally the cashier actually speaks to me but barely and reverted back to head shaking when asked any questions. It suck’s since I actually used to pretty regular in the store and had been used to the really friendly and helpful employees.

Petco Introduce

Petco, located at 13620 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062, USA, can be contacted at (913) 254-7589 or +1 913-254-7589. Reviews from local customers present a mixed picture of the services and environment at this "Pet Store Near Me."

One customer described an unsettling experience upon entering the store, noting it appeared dark and empty from the outside. Inside, they encountered a cashier who was remarkably unhelpful, responding only with headshakes when asked for assistance in locating aquarium lids. Thankfully, this customer found a friendly and helpful staff member stocking shelves in the back who was able to provide the necessary help. However, their checkout experience with the same cashier was also poor, with minimal verbal communication and continued head shaking in response to questions. This customer, a former regular, expressed disappointment in the decline of friendly and helpful service they had previously experienced at this location.

Another customer reported a significant loss of saltwater fish purchased from this Petco. All three fish died within a couple of days despite the customer's tank parameters being within the correct levels. Upon contacting the store to understand the potential cause, they were met with an unhelpful response, including a background conversation where the manager stated a no-refund policy for saltwater fish, even though the customer was only seeking information, not a refund. This reviewer expressed heartbreak over the loss of their fish and criticized the store's apparent lack of concern for the well-being of their aquatic life and customers, strongly recommending against purchasing saltwater fish from this Olathe Petco. They also noted purchasing healthier fish from a Petco in Lawrence.

While one positive aspect mentioned was the helpfulness of a staff member stocking shelves, the prevailing feedback raises concerns about the customer service at the front register and the health of the saltwater fish sold at this Olathe Petco location. Potential customers may want to consider these experiences when deciding whether to shop here, particularly if they require assistance or are interested in purchasing saltwater aquarium inhabitants.

If I could give negative stars I absolutely would. I bought three saltwater fish through this location, all three of which died within a day or two of having. All the levels in my tank are exactly where they should be, along with salinity levels. I called the store to see what could have been the difference, just trying to find the cause of death. All I get in response is "well our levels aren't exactly the greatest but none of our fish are dying." And in the background all I hear is the manager being absolutely rude stating "we don't do refunds for saltwater fish," and just repeating that. I never once asked for a refund, I was simply trying to find a cause of death considering I spent $100 for three fish and all died. I am absolutely heartbroken that this location does not give a care in the world about their fish or their customers. My coral beauty angelfish had some kind of infection on his lower end on both sides, and suffered for hours trying to breathe. As for the two cardinal banggai, I still have no idea what caused them to die. They were both swimming and eating just fine then I woke up the next morning and both were laying on the bottom of the tank. Considering all my other fish in the tank are just fine and show no problems, I know it was something to do with the petco I bought from. (also side note I bought all my other fish from the petco in Lawrence, where they take much better care of their fish). I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING SALTWATER FISH FROM PETCO IN OLATHE!!!!!!!!!!!

Was in town and ended up running out of Ollie dog food and was able to go pick up more at this location. I like that they carry the Ollie food brand. Everyone that I dealt with that work there was great helpful very friendly.

Our dog was in need of a larger cone. We talked with an associate about our problem. We needed a deeper cone since our dog has long and tall legs! Thor has a hurt front paw which he is not supposed to lick! Unfortunately you do not have a deeper cone! Bummer and no way to order a deeper one! So we bought 1 large and 2 medium cones and made a massive cone! Which actually is working! The sales associate also said there is a 30 day money back guarantee on the cones! I told her we are gonna hold you to that!! Thor destroys cones! We have tried everything!!

The items I was looking for were in stock which is a plus. Unfortunately the cashier was too busy trying to be so super duper friendly that she failed to enunciate and slow down so she could be understood while wearing a mask. I couldn’t understand that she was trying to tell me how much the transaction cost and had to tell her I couldn’t understand a word she said. I’m also completely at a loss as to if young people even know the words “Thank you “ at all because they certainly don’t know how to say it to customers. They seem to believe that telling you “have a good day” is sufficient and then those of us who were taught better say thanks to them. If you wonder why people are purchasing online instead of in the stores, consider that your customers do not feel that their business in person is appreciated. Remember if you want to keep a brick and mortar presence you need customers coming in the door and for them to come in the door they would like to be appreciated. All it takes is a simple heart felt “Thanks for your business “. Call me old fashioned but I’ll take old fashioned as opposed to aloof and uncaring any day.
