I am n ever shopping there going forward. I spend a great deal of money at this location as I have 3 large dogs. I went in last month, used my telephone number for my Petco account, and bought some Purina Pro Plan canned food for our new rescue. Tried a few cans but he doesn't like it so I went back today to return the unopened cans with the intention of selecting something else. The manager (wearing a sling) was at the register and said she couldn't find my purchase in the records on my account. Lots of other things, but she couldn't locate this one. I said that's okay how can we handle this.... and she said there's nothing she could do !!!! so I would have to keep the canned food and she would not allow me to even exchange it for another flavor !!! I said that's a poor policy and she basically looked at me with an attitude and said there nothing she can do .... why bother being a store manager !!! She leaves a lot to be desired with her lack of customer service and poor attitude. Walking outside I was referred by someone on the sidewalk to a local family owned pet store down the street. So 'll be giving my business to the Laconia Pet Center as they are far better to deal with and actually do try to always satisfy the pet's needs. You say you’ll address this, so I’d like to know what you’ll do to rectify this situation??

Petco Introduce
When searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" in Gilford, New Hampshire, Petco, situated at 1458 Lakeshore Dr a-110, is one of the readily available options. As a national chain, Petco typically offers a wide selection of pet supplies, including food, toys, grooming tools, habitats for small animals, and potentially live animals like fish and reptiles. The physical environment of a Petco store is generally standardized across locations, featuring aisles organized by pet type and product category, making it easy for customers to locate the items they need for their animals.
In terms of services, Petco stores often provide more than just retail. Depending on the location, services can include grooming, dog training classes, vaccination clinics, and adoption events in partnership with local animal shelters. These additional services aim to make Petco a comprehensive resource for pet owners, addressing not only their shopping needs but also aspects of pet care and well-being.
A key feature of large pet retail chains like Petco is the extensive variety of products they carry. Customers can usually find a wide range of brands and price points for pet food, catering to different dietary requirements and budgets. The selection of toys and accessories is also typically broad, offering options for various animal types and preferences. This vast inventory can be a significant advantage for pet owners looking for specific items or comparing different brands.
However, it is essential to consider recent customer feedback when evaluating Petco in Gilford as your preferred "Pet Store Near Me." The provided reviews paint a concerning picture regarding customer service and store policies at this specific location. One customer recounts a negative experience attempting to return unopened pet food that their new rescue dog did not like. According to the review, the store manager refused the return and would not even allow an exchange, citing an inability to locate the purchase in the customer's account despite other purchases being visible. The customer expressed disappointment with this policy and the manager's attitude, stating they would be taking their business to a local family-owned pet store instead.
Another review details an incident where a customer, acting as a DoorDash shopper assisting someone in finding cat food, was allegedly "scolded" by a staff member at the register for asking another staff member for help. The register staff member reportedly told the customer that they were not allowed to ask staff to shop with them because the staff had other duties. The customer attempted to explain their situation but was met with a comment about DoorDash drivers often asking staff to shop for them. This review raises questions about the level of customer assistance provided and the communication between staff members and customers.
These two recent negative reviews highlight potential issues with customer service, return policies, and the overall shopping experience at the Petco in Gilford, NH. While large chains often have established policies, the implementation and flexibility of these policies can vary by location and depend on the store management. The experiences described by these customers suggest a lack of empathy and problem-solving on the part of the store management, which can significantly impact customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Given these specific negative experiences shared by recent customers of the Petco in Gilford, local users searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" should be aware of these potential drawbacks. While Petco may offer a wide selection of products and services, the quality of customer service and the adherence to customer-friendly policies are crucial factors to consider when choosing where to spend your money and entrust the care of your pets' needs.
Currently, there is no promotional information provided in the given data. As a large retail chain, Petco often has ongoing promotions, sales events, and loyalty programs. However, these can vary and may not always mitigate negative customer service experiences. To learn about any current promotions at the Gilford location, customers would need to visit the store in person or check the official Petco website or app for deals specific to that region.
In conclusion, while Petco in Gilford, NH, offers the potential benefits of a large retail chain, such as a wide product selection and various services, recent customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding customer service and return policies. Local users searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" should weigh these potential drawbacks against the convenience and product availability that Petco may offer. It might be prudent to consider these experiences alongside the potential benefits when making a decision about where to shop for your pet supplies in the Gilford area.

Mar 09, 2025 · KimberlyDisappointed with my most recent trip to Petco where I was, for lack of a better word scolded by the woman at the register because I asked another staff member to show me where a particular brand of cat food was. The staff member show me where the cat food was and went about her merry way I was told that the register that I'm not allowed to ask staff to shop with me because they have jobs to do. I was there as an doordash shopper assisting a woman with finding a particular cat food that her felines are not allergic to. When I attempted to defend myself and let her know that I simply asked where something was she said "oh well it must not be you then but our DoorDash drivers tend to come in and ask the staff to shop with them." If the staff isn't there to assist a shopper with finding products I'm not sure what they're there for. end rant
Feb 06, 2025 · Marcia LoughlinGreat place for most pet needs, even some things for exotic animals. Store is clean and all of the enclosures look well maintained and stocked with healthy animals. With Covid however, they do have limited stock for adoptable pets and would advise calling ahead if you are looking for something specific. They also have exotic pets that aren't always advertised online sometimes. They offer many "cookie treats" that you can buy from a salad-bar styled counter as well. Petco has always been the "small zoo" that is fun to walk through and see the animals while buying pet supplies. One major complaint is their Betta fish. They have what looks like 50+ small cups with them in there and tons that are near death. They need 5gal tanks and cannot thrive in these "efficient" cups. The "2$ adopt" baby Betta fish were also way in the back on an empty tank that I saw by accident! Employees try their best to take care of them and have even told me that they have Betta fish that weren't adopted because they were "sick looking" due to being unable to thrive, and soon after died even though they can live for 3 to 5 years! Betta fish are unfortunately overlooked in terms of animal cruelty and are treated as a " temporary throwaway pet". Imagine if they sold hamsters in tiny cups and every few cups there was a dead one and many of the other ones are lethargic and "sick".
Aug 05, 2020 · Kaitlyn AbeleI am a biologist, PhD. Yesterday, my husband and I visited the Petko pet store in Gilford, New Hampshire. We were amazed at how dirty the store was. Judging by the clouds of dust under the shelves and the amount of debris on the floor, this store has not been cleaned for at least a week. The air was also filled with dust, heavy and stuffy. Various animals, including birds, live in this store for a long time, waiting for their buyer. There's a cabinet with parrots in it, and there's no air filtration system in that cabinet. As a result, parrots breathe this dirty air all day long. It is known that exotic birds, especially parrots, are extremely sensitive to the purity of the air. The main cause of their death and short life is lung infections, which are often caused by keeping birds in an environment with dirty air or lack of air circulation. Horrified by the conditions in which living creatures are kept, we invited Nicole, the manager of this store, to talk, and expressed to her our concerns about the threat to the health of animals with such careless maintenance in a dirty environment. We took her to the cabinet where the parrots live and pointed out to her the lack of an air filtration system in this cabinet. The ceiling of this cabinet is a metal grate through which air freely enters from the store, so that by inhaling such dirty air during the day, birds are doomed to inevitable lung diseases. What surprised us was that Nicole started making excuses, claiming that there had been no deaths of parrots in her store. Lung disease in birds caused by being kept in a room with dirty air proceeds as a sluggish inflammation. Such inflammation can no longer be stopped, the condition of the bird will inevitably worsen and eventually lead to its death, simply the death of the bird will occur with a delay. We hope that our feedback/review will not be ignored, that a training course on the humane treatment of animals will be conducted with all store staff and that appropriate measures will be taken to bring the Petco store in Gilford to the American standard.
Feb 26, 2024 · Valeria MFound a collar within the clearance items and it was marked 17.99, wondering what the cost was new I went to look and found it New with tags hanging up for 17.99. The only difference between the two was one had the original tags, and the other had no tags just an orange clearance sticker with the 17.99 printed on it. I proceeded to inquire about getting an actual clearance price for it and was rudely turned down twice by two associates before getting the manager in on it, who was just as rude and insisted that the tag was correct and told if I wanted clearance prices to go to the clearance section where I just was, where I found that collar. She said take it or leave it, as I walked away and left the store and I told her that was very misleading, sad experience with the new pup for sure
