Unbearable living conditions for birds. Absolutely horrific. Hours are probably not accurate because owners may be afraid people stop in during normal hours and don't want to get caught. Huge birds are put into canary sized cages. Cages are absolutely unhygienic and hav not been cleaned in months. I have parrots of my own and know what a "normal" pet shop looks like. This place looks like the illegal bird trafficking ring in the movie "Rio" with birds put into small cages with poor living conditions. This is abuse for the birds. I ever went over to the big bird to look at him and he was terrified of humans as if he experienced horrific experiences. Animal control and the police needs to visit this place ASAP and rescue these birds. Birds will die if they are not taken cared for. Food and water bowls were insufficient and absolutely disgusting as if these birds are hostages. In fact, as I was leaving I saw the owners put crates of pigeons and other birds on top of one another in their pick up truck in 90+ degree weather. If this isn't illegal then I don't know what this is. There is no front desk, it is literally an incredibly small room full of birds that were caught and put into unlivable cages. There is NO AC and the owners have to put fans everywhere. These are all signs that this a business who is doing things that are not allowed. Moreover, the window to the store is dark and you can't see anything which makes sense as the owners probably don't want you to see what it looks like inside. Please keep reporting them.

J&M Petshop Introduce

J&M Petshop is listed as a pet store located at 7038 W Hillsborough Ave in Tampa, Florida (FL 33634), USA, within the "Pet Store Near Me" category. However, it is crucial for local users to be aware of serious concerns raised by recent customer reviews regarding the welfare of animals, particularly birds, at this establishment. These reviews paint a disturbing picture that potential customers should consider before engaging with this business.

According to multiple customer accounts, the environment within J&M Petshop is described as "unbearable" and "horrific" for the birds housed there. Reviewers allege that birds, including large species, are confined to cages that are significantly too small, with one comparison made to "canary sized cages." The lack of hygiene is another major concern, with claims that cages have not been cleaned for extended periods, resulting in unsanitary conditions characterized by accumulated feces and urine. One reviewer with personal experience owning parrots likened the conditions to an "illegal bird trafficking ring," emphasizing the stark contrast to what is considered a "normal" pet shop environment. Furthermore, the lack of air conditioning within the small, crowded space, with only fans providing ventilation, is cited as a sign of potentially unacceptable business practices.

Based on the strong negative feedback, the services offered by J&M Petshop appear to primarily involve the sale of birds. However, the conditions under which these animals are reportedly kept raise serious ethical questions about the quality of care and the well-being of the animals being sold. The reviews do not provide details about other potential services or goods that might be offered, as the overwhelming focus is on the alarming state of the birds. The absence of a visible front desk and the description of the store as "literally an incredibly small room full of birds that were caught and put into unlivable cages" suggest a setup that deviates significantly from the typical retail pet store model.

The features of J&M Petshop, as described by the concerned customers, are overwhelmingly negative and point to significant animal welfare issues:

  • Inadequate Cage Sizes: Birds, including large species, reportedly confined to cages that are far too small for their needs.
  • Unhygienic Living Conditions: Cages described as uncleaned for months with accumulated waste.
  • Potential Signs of Neglect: Sick birds and birds with feather issues are mentioned, suggesting a lack of proper care.
  • Overcrowding: Multiple adult chickens allegedly crammed into small dog crates.
  • Lack of Environmental Control: No air conditioning, relying solely on fans in a small, crowded room.
  • Terrified Animals: One reviewer noted a large bird appeared terrified of humans, potentially indicating negative experiences.
  • Suspect Business Practices: Darkened storefront windows and unusual setup raise concerns about transparency.
  • Disturbing Animal Handling: Allegations of birds, including pigeons, being transported in crates stacked on top of each other in high temperatures.

Given the serious nature of the allegations in the customer reviews, any discussion of promotional information would be inappropriate and irrelevant. The primary concern raised by the available information is the potential mistreatment and neglect of animals within J&M Petshop. Local users should prioritize the welfare of animals and consider the ethical implications before supporting this business.

The strong and consistent negative feedback across multiple reviews highlights significant concerns that should not be ignored. The allegations include animal abuse, neglect, and potentially illegal activities. The reviewers strongly urge others to avoid supporting this business and to report their concerns to animal control and the police. These accounts suggest that the well-being of the animals at J&M Petshop may be severely compromised.

In conclusion, based on the available customer reviews, J&M Petshop in Tampa, FL, is alleged to have severely inadequate and unsanitary living conditions for the birds housed there, along with other concerning practices related to animal welfare. Local users are strongly advised to consider these serious allegations before visiting or supporting this establishment. The information suggests a situation that may warrant investigation by local authorities responsible for animal welfare.

Disgusting, full of neglected birds. Many birds in this store were in cages far too small, they had several adult chickens crammed into each small dog crate filling up an entire closet. Bottoms of cage were caked with long term built up feces and urine. Many sick birds and birds with feather issues. Do not support this business

Came by to look at some of the animals and noticed very quickly that none of the animals had much, if any water. Too many animals crammed into the same cages. They didnt look like they were cleaned in a while or taken care of well. 0 star

We purchased a bird one week ago from this place. Three days later, it had a seizure if some kind. It survived the 1st one, but three days later. It had another one and died. We brought it back after our phone calls were ignored, and he 1st tried to say that we didn't buy it from him, and after we provided the information to confirm that we did in fact purchase it three, then he changed his story and tried to say that we didn't feed it properly. I have raised several birds from egg stages. This bird was fed properly. And ate very well in between seizures. We paid 500 dollars for one week with a sick bird and this guy wouldn't even work with us on refund, or replacement. I will not recommend that anyone buy a bird here..
