I absolutely adore this store. Huge variety and great pricing compared to your average big box store. Well worth the 30-ish minute drive I make from the cities. Staff have always been friendly to me and willing to talk about whatever I need help with (a huge plus as a young person with social anxiety!) The place is huge! Their selection of fish is always a wonder to look at and I especially love to see their big ol African Lung Fish. Only wish from me is that I wish there was a place to sit for a moment. Being at the store is normally a longer endeavor for me and being disabled I find it really hard to look at all I want to without a place to sit for a moment to rest. I certainly won’t let that effect my rating though since that’s a very *me* issue.

Forest Lake Pets Introduce

Welcome to Forest Lake Pets, your local "Pet Store Near Me" situated at 120 Lake St N, Forest Lake, MN 55025, USA. You can contact them at (651) 464-8982 or their mobile line at +1 651-464-8982 to inquire about their extensive range of pet supplies, live animals, and potential adoption opportunities. Forest Lake Pets aims to provide a diverse selection of products and services for pet owners in the Forest Lake area and beyond.

The environment of Forest Lake Pets is described by one enthusiastic customer as "huge," suggesting a spacious retail setting that allows for a wide variety of products and potentially live animal habitats. This larger size likely contributes to their ability to offer a "huge variety" of pet supplies, setting them apart from smaller, more limited stores. The mention of an impressive fish selection, including a notable African Lung Fish, indicates a significant focus on aquarium enthusiasts. While another customer's negative experience regarding a macaw adoption mentions a "filthy cage," this contradicts the positive impression of variety and wonder from the first review, suggesting potential inconsistencies in animal care or differing perspectives.

The services offered at Forest Lake Pets appear to be primarily retail sales of pet supplies and potentially animal adoptions. The first review highlights the availability of a "huge variety" of products, implying a comprehensive stock of food, accessories, and habitats for various types of pets. The second review indicates that they may facilitate pet adoptions, although the specific processes and standards are called into question by the reviewer's negative experience. The friendly and helpful nature of the staff, as mentioned in the positive review, suggests a customer-centric approach to assisting shoppers with their needs and providing information about products.

A key feature of Forest Lake Pets, according to a satisfied customer who drives approximately 30 minutes from the city to visit, is their "huge variety" and "great pricing" compared to larger chain stores. This suggests that they offer a broader selection and potentially more competitive prices than typical big-box pet retailers, making them a worthwhile destination for pet owners seeking specific items or better value. The staff's willingness to engage with customers and provide assistance is also highlighted as a significant plus, particularly for those who may feel more comfortable with personalized support.

The impressive selection of fish is another notable feature, described as "always a wonder to look at," with the African Lung Fish being a particular attraction. This suggests a strong emphasis on aquatic pets, likely including a wide array of fish species, aquarium supplies, and knowledgeable staff to assist aquarium hobbyists. This specialization could be a significant draw for fish enthusiasts in the region.

However, the negative review presents a contrasting perspective, detailing a frustrating and hurtful experience related to a macaw adoption. The reviewer alleges unprofessional and rude communication, a lack of follow-through, and ultimately being denied the adoption of a bird they had prepared for. This raises concerns about the consistency of customer service and the transparency and fairness of their adoption processes. The mention of a "filthy cage" also casts doubt on the standards of animal care within the store, at least in this specific instance. This experience suggests that while some customers have positive interactions, others may encounter significant issues.

The positive reviewer does express a minor wish for seating within the store, acknowledging that their longer visits, due to being disabled, make it difficult to browse extensively without a place to rest. While they don't let this affect their rating, it's a piece of feedback regarding customer comfort that the store could consider. This suggests that while the product selection is excellent, the physical infrastructure for customer comfort might be lacking for some individuals.

There is no specific promotional information mentioned in either of the provided reviews. Local pet stores sometimes offer promotions such as discounts on specific brands, loyalty programs, or special offers on certain types of pets or supplies. To learn about any current promotions at Forest Lake Pets, it would be best to contact them directly at (651) 464-8982 or visit their store.

In conclusion, Forest Lake Pets at 120 Lake St N in Forest Lake, MN, appears to be a local "Pet Store Near Me" that boasts a "huge variety" of pet supplies and an impressive selection of fish, potentially offering better pricing than larger chain stores. The staff is generally perceived as friendly and helpful. However, a concerning negative review highlights issues with a pet adoption process, unprofessional communication, and alleged poor animal welfare in one instance. This suggests that while many customers may have positive experiences, there might be inconsistencies in service and animal care standards. Local pet owners should consider both the positive feedback regarding variety and pricing and the negative feedback concerning adoption and animal conditions when deciding whether to visit Forest Lake Pets. Direct communication with the store may be beneficial to inquire about specific needs and current offerings.

I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. I had hopes of adoption for a Macaw. I spoke to the volunteers while I was there to gather more information on the bird I was interested in.. I said I would be back the next day it opens. I called the next morning to leave a voicemail and inquire about cage size. I was excited and purchased a cage for this bird because I was told it's been there for a while, and no one has really shown any interest. So I don't even receive a call back.. I get several texts. I requested a call because, to me, that's more professional and the right thing to do. I would think they would have respected the fact that a person would take a day or two to consider the adoption of a high maintenance bird. After texting back and forth, I was told that the Macaw was sold. Renee was very rude and unprofessional for the interactions I had with here. Now I have a huge cage I paid for and no bird. Also, they claim I'm not adoption material because I spoke my mind. I could have given this bird a beautiful home instead of him being in a filthy cage and place that is open 3 days a week. I'm very hurt from this experience all around. Also contacted through Facebook, and of course, there was no response.

I recently acquired a used aquarium, so excited after not having one for almost 20 years. This store was recommended, and I was blown away! One of the best fish stores I've ever been in! And I'm 70+. Can't wait to get my tank cleaned & ready to go. 🐠

I have never seen a selection like forest lake pets, be it freshwater or saltwater they likely have what you’re looking for. I have seen plenty of creatures i’ve never seen in a pet shop and simply never seen before period, The staff is knowledgeable in their expertise, i’ve been there 2 times this month despite living in saint paul, it really is worth a 30 minute drive just for this pet store, if you live anywhere in the twin cities or even forest lake I highly recommend you check them out, they get in shipments of reptiles like snakes and frogs and invertebrates like tarantulas of many variety very often and if that isn’t enough they have “Freshwater Friday” and “Saltwater Saturday” every single week where they get a shipment of the respective fish type so you know they will have at least something new every single week, I could go on and on about the service and quality, if you have absolutely any interest in aquatic wildlife I would 100% recommend checking out Forest Lake Pets.

I was surprised at the aquatic selections they had to offer. I found myself lost in what I wanted to buy because I wanted to buy everything! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. This place is definitely a favorite pet stop! Photo Update (2025)
