I've been going here for decades. The new owners are awesome, super friendly and helpful but I think they are overwhelmed. The crawfish I picked up is every bit as chill with his tank mates as I was told he would be while still being an absolute blast to watch putz around my tank.

Coral Reef Pet Center Introduce

For individuals in Norridge, Illinois, and the surrounding areas seeking a "Pet Store Near Me," Coral Reef Pet Center, situated at 7723 W Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL 60706, USA, presents itself as a local option for pet-related needs. To provide a balanced and objective introduction for potential customers, it is crucial to consider the recent feedback from individuals who have visited the store.

One customer, who reports having frequented the establishment for decades, offers a somewhat positive perspective, noting that the "new owners are awesome, super friendly and helpful." This suggests a potentially positive shift in customer service with the change in ownership. The reviewer also shared a specific experience of purchasing a crawfish that has integrated well into their home aquarium, aligning with the information provided by the store. This indicates that, at least in some instances, the store provides accurate information about the animals they sell.

However, it is essential to acknowledge a significantly contrasting and highly concerning review from another recent customer. This individual describes the store as "absolutely horrible and disgusting," alleging that the "new owners have absolutely neglected ALL animals in the store." The reviewer claims to have observed a lack of cleanliness in both the animal enclosures and the general store area. More alarmingly, they report "no food or water in the cages" and describe the fish tanks as "DISGUSTING" to the point where the fish are not even visible. These are very serious allegations concerning the basic welfare of the animals housed at Coral Reef Pet Center.

The severity of these claims is further underscored by the reviewer's intention to file a complaint with the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, labeling the owners as "ANIMAL ABUSERS" and strongly advising others to "DO NOT GO HERE!" The review concludes with the stark statement that "ANIMALS ARE IN POOR CONDITIONS AND PRACTICALLY LEFT TO DIE!" This feedback paints a dire picture of the current environment and the level of care being provided at Coral Reef Pet Center.

Considering these two recent reviews, there appears to be a significant discrepancy in customer experiences and perceptions of the store since the change in ownership. While one long-time customer praises the new owners' friendliness and helpfulness, another provides a scathing account of alleged animal neglect and unsanitary conditions. This stark contrast makes it challenging to offer a definitive assessment of the store's current state without further information or corroboration.

Regarding services, based on the positive review, it seems that the staff aims to be helpful and provide information about the animals being sold. However, the negative review raises serious concerns about the basic provision of food and water to the animals, which are fundamental aspects of animal care. If the allegations in the negative review are accurate, it would indicate a severe lack of essential services for the animals housed at the store.

In terms of features, the long-standing presence of the store in the community, as indicated by the decades-long patronage of one reviewer, could be considered a feature. However, the recent change in ownership appears to have significantly impacted the store's operations and the perceived quality of care. The potential for knowledgeable and friendly staff, as mentioned in the positive review, could be a feature if this experience is consistent across customers and if the alleged animal neglect is not representative of the overall care provided.

Promotional information is not provided in the given text. Due to the conflicting and concerning recent review, any potential promotions would be secondary to addressing the serious allegations of animal neglect. Local users would need to contact the store directly to inquire about any current promotions, but it would be prudent to also consider the recent negative feedback regarding animal welfare before patronizing the establishment.

Given the gravity of the allegations in the negative review, it is imperative for potential local users searching for a "Pet Store Near Me" to be aware of these concerns. While one customer had a positive experience, the detailed and disturbing account of animal neglect cannot be ignored. It would be advisable for prospective customers to exercise caution, perhaps visit the store themselves to assess the conditions, and consider the potential risks highlighted in the negative feedback before making any purchases or supporting this business.

In conclusion, Coral Reef Pet Center in Norridge, IL, has received mixed recent reviews following a change in ownership. While one long-time customer found the new owners friendly and helpful and had a positive experience with a purchased animal, another customer reported severe concerns about animal neglect and unsanitary conditions, going so far as to recommend avoiding the store and intending to file a complaint with animal welfare authorities. This stark contrast in feedback presents a complex and potentially concerning picture for local users seeking a "Pet Store Near Me." Prospective customers are strongly advised to consider both perspectives and potentially conduct their own assessment of the store's environment and animal care practices before making a decision.

Absolutely horrible and disgusting. New owners have absolutely neglected ALL animals in the store and have done little to no cleaning for the animal spaces or even in the general store. No food or water in the cages, fish tank is DISGUSTING you cannot even see the fish. I will be filing a complaint to the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Animal Welfare because these owners are ANIMAL ABUSERS! DO NOT GO HERE! ANIMALS ARE IN POOR CONDITIONS AND PRACTICALLY LEFT TO DIE!

They have many live pets to choose from. Reptiles, fresh and salt water fish, birds and small animals. Have never seen dogs or cats. Live aquarium plants as well. Staff is very helpful and friendly and there is plenty of parking. The animals here are very well taken care of. Love this place.

To preface this I'm reviewing their fish sales side of the business I didn't experience the rest of their business and frankly I never care to. That being said this was hands down the worst fish store I've been to in the Chicagoland area. I've never seen so many sick and deceased fish in one place. The pictures below were taken 1/16/2019. The first is of two dead clown knifes in a tank. The second is of a silver dollar covered in ich. I understand that as a fish business there are going to be bad shipments that lead to dead and sick fish but this was just a sampling of the issues going on. I saw no indication on the tanks that they were being treated in any way. Unfortunately it only got worse as I looked at the tanks in disbelief. After 15 mins or so someone arrived with a new shipment of fish and they started putting the bags into all of the aquariums- yes the ones with sick and deceased fish. I would have liked to talk to one of the employees before writing such a negative review, but in my entire 30 mins in the store no one said a word to me. I walked around, took my pictures, and left. To the owners- if you're unaware of this please take a harder look at your fish room. You are actively killing fish and selling sick fish to your customers. I hope this is not what you want your business to be known for.
