Captive Bred Specialties Introduce
For reptile enthusiasts and herpetological hobbyists in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and the surrounding areas seeking a dedicated "Pet Store Near Me" specializing in reptiles, Captive Bred Specialties, located at 404 Travis Ln #41, offers a focused selection of animals and supplies. Based on the available customer reviews, this store stands out for its healthy stock, impressive displays, and the owner's expertise in creating self-sufficient ecosystem terraria.
One customer enthusiastically described Captive Bred Specialties as "a great place for your (and your herps) needs," indicating that the store caters specifically to those interested in reptiles and amphibians. The reviewer further highlighted the "Beautiful displays and healthy stock," suggesting that the animals are well-cared for and presented in an aesthetically pleasing manner. This focus on the health and visual appeal of their reptiles can be a significant draw for potential buyers who prioritize the well-being and appearance of their future pets.
A particularly noteworthy feature mentioned in the reviews is the owner's apparent mastery of "self-sufficient ecosystem terraria." This suggests a unique offering beyond the typical sale of reptiles and enclosures. Creating a balanced and self-sustaining terrarium requires a deep understanding of ecological principles and the specific needs of the inhabitants. The reviewer, who had attempted this themselves, attested to the "skill that goes into these wonderful pieces of living art." This indicates that Captive Bred Specialties may offer not just standard enclosures but also meticulously crafted, bioactive habitats that can enhance the well-being of the reptiles and serve as impressive displays.
Another customer echoed the positive sentiment, stating, "This place is awesome great Reptiles and you can tell they take pride in taking care of their animals." This reinforces the impression that the health and welfare of the reptiles are a top priority at Captive Bred Specialties. The reviewer's personal experience of purchasing a "very healthy and a great eater" Hognose snake further substantiates the claim of healthy stock. A reptile that eats well is a crucial indicator of good health and proper care in captivity.
Beyond the quality of the reptiles themselves, Captive Bred Specialties also seems to offer a comprehensive range of supplies. The same satisfied Hognose owner mentioned that the store has "a great selection of enclosures and accessories." This suggests that customers can find everything they need to set up and maintain a suitable habitat for their chosen reptile, potentially including heating and lighting equipment, substrates, hides, water dishes, and decorative elements. Having a good selection of enclosures and accessories in-store can be convenient for new reptile owners and experienced keepers alike.
The positive experiences shared by customers strongly suggest that the environment of Captive Bred Specialties is conducive to the health and well-being of the reptiles. The "Beautiful displays" mentioned by one reviewer imply that the animals are housed in appropriate and visually appealing enclosures. The emphasis on the owner's expertise in creating self-sufficient terraria further points to a focus on providing naturalistic and enriching environments for the reptiles. A store that prioritizes proper housing and care is more likely to offer healthy and well-adjusted animals.
In terms of services, the primary offering of Captive Bred Specialties is the sale of captive-bred reptiles. The positive reviews highlight the health and quality of these animals. Additionally, the store provides a selection of enclosures and accessories necessary for reptile husbandry. The owner's expertise in creating ecosystem terraria could also be considered a specialized service, potentially involving custom-built habitats or guidance on setting up bioactive enclosures. The willingness to cater to the specific needs of "your (and your herps)" indicates a customer-centric approach focused on reptile care.
The term "Captive Bred Specialties" in the store's name itself suggests a focus on reptiles that have been bred in captivity rather than wild-caught. This is often seen as a more ethical and sustainable practice, as it reduces pressure on wild populations and typically results in animals that are better adjusted to life in human care and less likely to carry parasites or diseases common in wild-caught specimens. This focus on captive-bred reptiles can be a significant feature for ethically conscious reptile enthusiasts.

Apr 02, 2025 · John CurnuttThis place is awesome great Reptiles and you can tell they take pride in taking care of their animals I bought a Hognose here and he is very healthy and a great eater all I can ask for! They also have a great selection of enclosures and accessories I more than likely will be buying another reptile from them in the future!
Feb 05, 2025 · killaflow0928This is a great place to get a beardie. I got mine a few days ago, and he’s doing very well! The animals look well cared for, and the owner seems like he really does care about every animal that leaves his store which is why some reviewers think he is “snobby.” I dont necessarily think thats a bad thing, but i always believe in being open to learning new things! Herpetoculture is always evolving and changing. They also breed most of their animals in store, which is super awesome. My only warning for customers is to do your research. Many breeders rely on fairly outdated husbandry info such as 40 gallon tanks for adult dragons, when experts and modern keepers suggest a 4x2x2 (a 120gal). I know theyre hard to heat, especially if you crank the AC in the summer, but covering a small portion of the cool side with foil like he recommended has kept my temps optimal, and keeps the cool side room temperature. Although i will say it takes 2 100w halogens and a 160w mercury vapor to keep it up. (Its a very big tank so a little but of foil wont suffocate or harm them. PVC tanks like mine have a lot of ventilation.) I did check out a mercury vapor bulb, and that definitely helped keep my temps up, so those are nice when used in addition to halogens and a T5HO UVB. (Plus the extra UVB wont hurt anyone.) (Hes on paper towel until hes done quarantining. He will go on sand soon.)
Oct 02, 2023 · Savannah WanThis place is a diamond mine! The owner has a wealth of knowledge. The sales floor has beautiful pictures taken in the wild. A perfect gift for animal lovers. Aug 27, 2024 · DW CortessiHighly recommend if you are looking to purchase a reptile. We just purchased a Uromastyx from them and it has been a wonderful experience. I apologize I didn't get names, but the person that helped us everytime we were in there was super nice, very helpful and seemed very knowledgeable. They were patient with all of our questions. I had a couple questions that came up after we left so I sent messages through messenger. Both times I got responses super fast and very indepth answers. They even sent us a picture of our Uromastyx right after he hatched along with a picture of dad. Never would have gotten that service at a pet store! Thank you again, Captive Bred Specialties for all of your help!
